Re: Print Copy Tool versus Plotworks

John, The PrintCopy Tool compares pretty favorably to Plotworks. I attached two documents to this post. The Product Support Guide lists differences between the two products. The PowerPoint has screen shots of all the settings in PrintCopy Tool. I hope this helps.

So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

What good does it do that it can detect a blank first page but not subsequent pages? The most common application for this is if someone is scanning a multi-page PDF in duplex mode but some of the pages are single-sided.

Re: Band With Auto-Negotiaion

It sounds like you are refering to having a 10mb or 100mb network. All of the ricoh network devices I'm familiar with use Auto-detect to determine the speed of the network but then they set that value and do not detect again. So when the printer is turned on it looks at the network and detects 10mb speed, and sets the card to 10mb. If the network chances to 100mb the printer does not detect this until it is turned off and on again.

We use Printfleet, and it works well for us. The one issue I have with this press release is it saying it "detects" locally connected printers. What it doesn't mention is that that's all it can do, is "detect" those. It can't pull volume or errors or supply status. It's a good thing that it can find it, but it's pretty limited in what it can do once it finds them.

Also: Re: Ricoh C3500 Does not automatically detect paper size in the drawers or bypass (yes it does, except for bypass) - End user must remove and then replace plastic guides when changing paper sizes (false, they need only move the quides to the proper position) - End user must push button to open any drawer, instead of just pulling on handle. (false) At least, that's the way it is on the Savin C3535 which is the same machine unless I'm missing something.

Sorry to tie you up with this but my DSM mimics what OKI tech support says which is that it will only staple two sheets. I need to know your source so that I can get to the bottom of this. The information you have does not appear in any OKI material as far as I know. That is why I suspect it is from the finisher manufacturer. However, when hooked to the OKI, OKI's auto media detect overrides everything and can't be turned off. The CX3641MFP Brochure does not show these specs.

Re: Method for Charging Higher Click Rate for Thicker Stocks

SalesServiceGuy ·
On all Toshiba copiers for the last five plus years, the technician can quickly enable a service code to double click thick, special, Legal, Letter-R and ledger size paper. I have the strong belief that most other copier vendors can do the same thing. Generally, from the print driver, the customer has to select thick paper. The copier has no ability to auto detect if there is thick paper in the bypass. In Toshiba terms, what thick actually means is that the paper passes a little slower...

Re: How do Original setting adjustments work?

How much time have you got??!! At switch on the machine checks the white plate underneath the glass and some dummy pixels on the CCD. The machine then knows what white is and what black is. After the image is scanned it is passed to the IPU (Image Processing Unit). The IPU carries out at least 6 processes of filtering. Different filters are used to actually break down the image so that it can be sent to the laser for writing. It also looks at the make up of the image to detect whether it is...

Re: 240W problem

The tech needs to check SP-1960. A setting of 0 will tell the machine that only the bypass is available. If they have 1roll feeder it should be set to 1. If they have 2 roll feeder it should be set to 2. If they have one roll feeder and paper cassette, it should be set to 3 and if they have 2 roller feeder and paper cassette it should be set to 4. The machine will not auto detect accessories, you have to tell it what it has.

Don't be too concerned about this as it's been around for many years. It was originally used to detect conterfeit prints.

Re: Secret code 'traces copies'

Yes, the code reveals the unit's serial number, and yes this has been around for years. (I remember learning about it in about 1992). At the time I was told that the Goverment threatened to ban the sale of color copiers in the US (counterfeit concerns) unless Canon developed a method to track the serial number of each machine in each copy. This is also why most color machines will not make a copy if they cannot detect their own serial number.

Re: Question to Print Audit on PA Forum

Art Post (Guest) ·
Hi Art, Unfortunately, this is a known limitation of Print Audit 5. Plot Client WIN (and other similar plot-submission tools) bypass the Windows print drivers when they generate multiple copies the file you are plotting. As a result, Print Audit 5 can only detect the first copy being generated, and will only report that one page was printed. While there is currently no way to have Print Audit automatically track the number of plots being generated, there are a couple of workarounds that you...

Art, Maybe a bit late, but the units are defaulted to detect development count as the default. Service mode 5-046 can be used to change the counter method to page count. As for @Remote, I'd think it may be dependent on the SP5-046 setting, however, I am not entirely sure. I'm certain you may be able to check the @Remote launch documentation for clarification....

I can't say I've seen this. All I can offer is my first trouble-shooting step in cases like this. When the plot comes to Plotbase, what size does it detect? You can see this with the file viewer on if you click on the job, then on the specific file, the size of the plot will be listed at the bottom of the file viewer window on the bottom right of the screen. If the page size is anything over 30" (even 30.001) then it will not print on 30" paper. It may also be that the image is rotated...

DSM will let you centrally manage scan buttons on an mfp (that supports DSM) to a folder, email, or SharePoint from a Windows 2008 R2 Server. Access to the buttons is controlled with AD. No OCR functionality but it is now an option on the mfp itself. No more individual address books to worry about. Ricoh announced support back in 2010 but unfortunately very few models have it.

As you know I'm a believer in SBB, and just wish the dealership that I work for could embrace SBB. it is the wave of the future and the only way to combat the race to zero for the cost per page. Art

Larry I believe, you believe it, yet it seems to me the involvement of "C" level execs on LinkedIn is very low, unless they are all lurkers. There's only a handful of "C" level execs in our industry that promote, inspire and engage. One of my biggest concerns with LinkedIn is that most "C" levels execs either don't have the time or are too busy running the ship to become active. Maybe that next generation may turn the tide with LinkedIn, but for right now, I know more Boomers that are much...
