Re: A Couple of True & Not So True Humerous Copier Incidents

Kyocera Guy ·
On a cold call I stopped in at a doctors office. The Office Manager was so glad to see me. She said that she was having fax issues and every time they received a fax it jammed. I told her I wasn't a tech but I would take a look. She escorted me to the fax and I looked down to see some questionably cheap paper. I simply asked if she had tried changing paper. She said "I don't have any control of the paper the hospital sends when they fax me." OooooK. She obviously didn't understand the...

One of my large medical accounts contacted me about this one. They were totally freaked out over this potential threat even though they had no machines in their fleet with the vulnerability. Meanwhile you could walk to almost any fax machine in any of their locations and grab patient info from the fax trays.

In about 5 placements, I've been able to take customers from existing A4 color devices and put them into one of these models for not much more than what they were paying, the high cost of A4 color consumables was the key when the user was making about 1,000 color pages per month along with 1,500 or more black. The low price cpc is an advantage with the Ricoh models. I have used a few of these systems as seed models, meaning that they take the color unit and commit to the lowest possible...

In an FAQ Document under wireless printing options it states, "When printing from USB removeable media, the Fiery will print Postscript and PDF File formats. Hey, I agree, but when you see that type of pricing without competition, what is everyone to think??? I've seen new wide format fully loaded at 8K, and MP C5000's that were reselling at 2% above dmap 6. If I may be so bold, I truly believe that the head honchos have no clue what's going on in the street, plus even if they did they have no way of stopping it. They need the boxes placed in order to keep the factories running, more boxes placed equals more supply clicks. They just don't care,...

I also received this in an email about the roll feeder: We did an install of a 3601 a few years ago at one of his customers, and plopped it right on top of the old 240 roll feeder that they had...with no trouble at all. Hope this is all you'll need to convince "the man" !

and this: As far as "proof" that it will work...... I have been a Ricoh WF dealer for 15 years. I have installed the 2400, 3600 and the 3601 on top of 240 roll feeders. They all work. The connectors are exactly the same. The printer does not "know" what roll feed is underneath it.

Rules of thumb...sell nothing but the need for an appointment on a phone call or initial call. Also never "sell" during your fact-finding for several reasons: 1.) The fact-finding process gets interrupted or stopped. 2.) You come across like a dog salivating over fresh meat. 3.) You tip your hand and lose some of the thunder you will get from your proposal. 4.) You inspire additional questions and thought processes that the prospect will then discuss with competitors. read the rest in the...

Thanks for the feedback. I did a killer demo and had them sold on the Genuine PS3, new User Account Limits app, along with Mail-to-Print and a few other features, but it was not enough to make up the $197 in additional monthly expense for the RFG product versus the Kyocera b/w and Konica-Minolta color that was being proposed by the competition. I think what killed me on pricing was that the LD260c/MP C6000 is over $8,500 per month higher than the LD550c/MP C5000, which equates to more than...

Re: PS3 Emulation vs Genuine Adobe PS3

txeagle24 ·
I brought this topic up earlier, and it was a genuine concern for the prospect, as they are 90% Mac, and their current Canon systems have PS3 Emulation which slows the systems down. However, being that adding the genuine PS3 to each system averaged $1,000 per machine, and the price difference between the MP C5000 & MP C6000, they decided that the pain wasn't great enough to pay an extra $200 per month and went w/ a combination of Konica-Minolta color & Kyocera b/w gear.

Strictly looking at the difference between the MP C6000 and MP C5000, you made the right choice to go with the higher speed model at those volumes. Obviously there is a significant difference in HW price (apples and oranges), but the MP C6000 should have a lower CPP that makes up that difference. Assuming a BW click that is 2 mils cheaper on the MP C6000 and a color click that is a penny cheaper, that equates to a savings of $160, making the monthly delta only $40 vs $200. Am I missing ...

Many of us don't have a "Sammy" option to propose. My 2 cents worth...Those that are familiar with BEI would disagree with the statement that the MPC5000 can't handle 35K B/W and 10K color. For those that don't know, BEI tracks service histories by model nationwide. I no longer have access to BEI but I would bet money that the "sweet spot" for the C5000...that place where the cost to maintain is the lowest per copy, is around the volume you are talking about here. Really!?!?...you guys would recommend an MP C5000 in an environment doing 35K black and 9K color?! I'm almost certain that my service department would crucify me the first time something went wrong here! According to Ricoh's "Technical Service Copier Specification Chart" the recommended average monthly volume for this system is only 15K total with 30% color (or 11.5K black and 4.5K color). Surely one of your competitors would bring this fact in front of a potential buyer (...sorry for...

The real issue is not whether a certain machine can "handle" a certain volume, but whether the customer will be OK with the amount of service needed. If customer A is OK with seeing service once a week while customer B's expecation is to only see a tech once a month, then you could possibly put very different systems into each location, even though they run the same exact volume (all other things being equal). All that aside, the maximum (not average) monthly volume is the true gauge of the...

I only say this to suggest that I have pretty much seen it all but one thread has been consistant throughout. The attached file is crude and probably in need of updating but it illustrates the progression of model numbers when you read it from left to right. It is incorrect to consider the C3001 to be the replacement for the C3000. The C3000 went to the C3300 which went to the C3501. The C3001 is the newer version of the C2500 which became the C2800. Equally true that the C3501 is not the newer version of the C3500. You may think it is splitting hairs but these distinctions are critical to the...
