Re: Will outside Sales Rep's go away?

Jason H ·
@Monte I hope/think that even though buyers will research online that they will still want some interaction with a salesperson. If in fact the manufacturers allow the sale of high end MFP's online then the dealers will have to change a lot of how they do business. My hope though is that it does not come down to this. I buy a lot online and my wife grocery shops online and has them delivered to the house, BUT I don't look at most things like groceries. I want to go talk to my insurance agent.

Question on this - do any of you that sell Lexmark get questioned about the ultimate ownership of the Chinese government? If so, what is it that you say to get them comfortable that they're safe?

We are still a dealer but we have not sold a LEXMARK in quite a while. They eliminated the MPS Elite program we were own, or at the least removed us from that program. I never had anyone ask about the security due to the Chinese ownership but it’s a great point. Honestly, I have found their support, to us at least, to be very subpar. Our support from brother has been phenomenal the last 2 years. Most of my printer clients are replacing the lexmarks with the brothers as fast as they can.

Re: Question: Xerox technicians

I can confirm a new offering. Xerox has a new program for signing on new dealers and not putting them in the Global or Agent bucket. These dealers can then be trained to use thier own technicians. I will check with my source about them using Xerox techs.

Less than 5% of my Toshiba clients are not under a Maintenance Service contract. Toshiba sells lots of kits designed for trained service techs to install but not typical end users. Even those customers who prefer not to be invoiced for monthly meter reads we try to automatically collect the meter reads via email or fax and usually but them on copy blocks.

I'm with Art. I think the A4 systems are in the market to stay and soon everyone will have them. Samsung will also have A3 systems within the next 18 months to be able to offer them with the A4's on bids and tenders. We shouldn't forget old HP when we have this discussion...they still collect more clicks in NA than any other manufacturer and they are seriously getting into the managed print business. It is at this time at the sales persons discretion to include it on taxable customers. Sometimes the $1 buy-out is...

Re: Does anyone sell Tabbing Machines?

Buskro manufactures tabbing equipment that is compliant with multiple Postal System requirements. It is important to understand the parameters of the mailing (where, postal discount type, weight, dimensions and contents) all of these have bearing in some instances. Better to qualify these potential solutions directly via MF relationship or an agent.

Re: Xerox Authorized Sales Agent

GIntel ·
I feel like a lot of the historical advantages of being an Agent (lineup range, leads, etc) have been undermined by moves by Global and the Xerox dealer division in recent years. Not a bad business model too if you can do it, don't want to deal with a service division/overhead, and reach Xerox's quotas. You can also combine it with Xerox's dealer programs to go beyond some of the limitations they put on Agents.

I have not personally seen the output, but from what I have heard it is more of a business color quality. I had a Xerox agent try to position it as a solution in a print for pay against a 6513 and the customer did not see the Xerox as a viable competitor. The DC 12 and 3535 are the only two products that I believe fit the creative color category.

Ok, I tested my theory and it does not automate the above scenario. The only thing that does work is to scan to folder and have a shortcut of the PS driver in the folder. This way, users could just select the PDFs they scanned, drag and drop to the PS icon, and collect the prints. Another thought, if the customer needs to scan mixed batches, I am assuming letter and legal, then why recommend an MFP that will not automatically separate the image sizes? Doesn't this lead to more time wasted...

I'm taking the pre-req's for the edgeline now. It's a product that has a niche market. The paper feeds from the tray up a verticle transport across the top of the machine, down the other side to a decurler. The decurler bends the paper so it will fit the drum better. A bonding agent first sprayed onto the paper before the ink is applied. It next goes to a dryer and back out to the decurler to be duplexed or sent to the finisher. It's a variable speed printer. @ Color1 Is this a Xerox agent or Authorized Dealer? If it is an agent then I don't see how they are doing it since Xerox sets the pricing and handles all of the maintenance. They would never do a all b&w page included deal under the Xerox mother ship. I have seen this with a local competitor (dealer) in my area. They simply play the odds and add the projected monthly black and white clicks into the lease. The whole unlimited "free black and white" sounds so good until you start...
