Re: When is Net New Business not Net New Business?

txeagle24 ·
In my opinion, Net New is any revenue stream you did not previously have. Take over service of a competitor's equipment = Net New. Replace that machine purchased from a competitor with one of your own = Net New. Take over management of their print fleet or IT infrastructure = Net New. Replace those printers or computers, Net New. Time comes to renew those contracts at a lower or identical service payment= Upgrade. But, if their monthly payment increases, the difference between the old...

Re: Target GP Margins

txeagle24 ·
Across the board, I probably average 12-15% margin above whatever markup management puts in before my "Sales Cost" is published. For printers & desktop A4 devices, I just want to get a bunch of them in the field running pages & making money, so I sell most of them at my Sales Cost. That recurring revenue stream & volume in numbers is more valuable than making a few extra dollars on the hardware. On larger A4 MFPs, I'll typically have a 20-25% margin, because I typically propose...

We had never charged for it after the sale until about 6 months ago due to people calling all the time for driver installs, scanning issues related to their internet etc. We used to offer an optional network/it yearly agreement and people would decline and then start calling for help. We decided to send out, initially an opt-out to ever customer who had current devices, and after every sale send one out. We did it as an opt out due to the fact that customers would decline the option and...

Re: Leasing, Insurance, Padded Rates, Buy Out Price

txeagle seems you may have the best answer, just quote them MSRP and we should be safe. We just went through one of these where the copier was damaged by fire and was covered under the BOP policy. The insurance company paid the stream of payments plus the residual. I'm always somewhat concerned when I have to quote a price to the customer and then that customer uses that for the value of the equipment to the leasing company. If you sell at MSRP and the equipment is leased, then you need to...

Re: Leasing, Insurance, Padded Rates, Buy Out Price

If you sell at or above MSRP due to significant GP or because a buyout was involved, I would quote the Stream of Payments of the hardware + the buyout, excluding the portion of the monthly payment attributable to Service/Supplies in the case of a bundled lease/service agreement.

Tx, ty for this this. I don't bundle MA/Supplies. I just don't want my customer to get jammed in case there is a loss. We've had quite a few losses here in NJ with the storm from a few years ago. I'm just looking for the right thing to do for customers who opt out of the leasing companies insurance. I'm somewhat skeptical of giving them stream of payments plus residual, may open up a can of worms.

I would look into Fabsoft's Reform Print Driver. It captures the print stream from the user's application and allows you to apply "rules." I don't know if it will do what you need but it is where I would start. I don't remember how much it is but I do remember that it was cheap. www.fabsoft.com Greg Levita (973)767-2100 ext. 505 gregl@fabsoft.com

RICOH PRO 907/1107/1357 PRODUCTION PRINTER FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q. Where do the new Pro Series Production Printers fit in the Ricoh high volume monochrome printer product line? A. The new Pro Series Production Printers are successors to the highly successful Digital Document Publisher models, the DDP70e and the DDP92. Those models were initially brought into the Ricoh product family through the acquisition of Hitachi. Technically, the 70-ppm Digital Document Publisher 70e is being...

Here is a letter that management shared with us in our Monday morning sales meeting regarding the security of Ricoh hard drives. It is at least good to know that anything on the HDD is in a proprietary format. I don't think the difficult thing is going to be to make our RFG customers feel at ease that their data is not compromised. The real challenge will be addressing the concerns on competitive systems that clients want us to send back to the leasing company for them. Of course, that is...

We sold two copiers recently to a Window & Door Manufacturer. One of the copiers had 4k clicks on it in less than a week so we thought we would have a good revenue stream. I have been thinking about these Label printers so I asked the client about how they use the ones that they already have. I was floored when the client told me that they plan to spend $100k this year on labels alone.

However, my current boss has provided neither my co-worker nor myself any real sales training. He won't even demonstrate how to sell (we think it's because he can't). I have also learned that we are being underbid by the other Sharp dealer in town, and our service dept head has said our prices are...

The constant stream of competitive information, "war stories" and conversations surrounding best practices in the dog-eat-dog world that is our day-to-day reality keep me coming back on a daily basis to look for the next nugget I can use to win deals & reach my production and income goals. I hope my competition stays off these forums & would probably pay to keep some level of market exclusivity to this library of industry-specific content.

Re: Booking Deals w/buy-out of existing leases

montecore ·
Good thought....but that would never happen. Most of the time in a stream of payment situation I take the number of months left and subtract 1 or 2 depending on the situation then I use that to base the buyout. That will knock down the buyout...especially when they are paying $300-$400 a month. This will make a big difference when figuring the lease. That can actually win the deal. The big wigs do not believe in the stream of payments and prefer to wait until the lease is up.....guess what...

0.019584 Means 4% And its not a "pad" its the same reason that Banks get a lower interest rate than you and I can on a mortgage. Imagine this a bank is borrowing at .025 percent from fed and lending at .0375 to you and me. Thats a 50% percent "Pad" our industry marks up only 4-10% and most of that is eaten up by administrative costs. Sales is break even at best, the real money is in the ongoing annuity and revenue stream from service.

If and only if you process the entire billing packet you may have a point. If you do the job of a Sales coordinator (Check the deal and paperwork for completeness and correctness) Billing administrator (Complete the funding detail sheet, send the deal to the lease company, confirm funding has hit, send off docs) Cut any buyout /payoff checks and deliver them to the customer. Store equipment for stream of payment deals, then package, load and deliver equipment to old lease company. Then you...

So, do you think it would be ethical for the leasing company to go after full stream of payments plus residual in the case I described??? I don't begrudge the leasing company a fair return on their outlay of money but to want the full stream plus residual 4 weeks after funding is excessive. That's making 40% interest on their money for a one month investment. Would you be happy as the leasing partner???? I doubt it. Well, of course. We all understand that there is NO question of ethics, both parties signed a contract and agreed to obligations. Both took on risks. Now one party has experienced those risks. Is GA entitled to what the contract says they are entitled to after 4 weeks, or only after 5? Five is pretty short... maybe they get what the contract says after 15 weeks, but not 14? Or maybe they get what the contract says if the contract goes to term but they eat it if anything bad happens prior to...
