We definitely are not out chasing them but we are much more versed talking about them and the benefits of buying them from us rather than the big box store. It has led to some very nice MPS accounts for us this past year. I don’t have a final count but I believe we added about 3 million new clicks this year from printer sales. There is value of ordering things online that can be commonly used or even basic electronics. I'll chime in. Like TML I'm in my early 30's and have been selling copy hardware for nearly 10 years. I think good sales people as a whole are quickly becoming scarce. Millennials don't seem to like to interact with others if they don't have to and as most "print" decisions move to IT, online buying is already what they know. Overall it is a convenience factor, they don't have to submit a form to a website and wait a couple days for salesperson to try and up-sell them to an A3 MFP. They...

I know everyone is just ball-parking it here but these questions are really hard to get dependable answers for. Most sales reps do not know what the dealership markup is prior to establishing sales cost so a 20% markup might actually be 40% from cost. The other is the compensation package. If there is compensation based on clicks or a click incentive, GP becomes less important. My payplan changed this year from being GP based to being revenue based. TX; I heard the same is true for the NY Metro area. Looking back, I've probably had about 6 transactional orders this year. Where I've sold the device while on the phone with the client the first time.

tx I agree. Our owner, who happens to be my father, is still trying to do things like its the 80's. We hold our own in a major market but we do not have the growth I want. It is tough to get him on board with anything new age as this is an industry he has made truck loads of money on doing it the same old way year after year.

I'm wondering how the new KIP 800 series are doing. Many of my existing base w/ 5 year old + Ricoh's are asking if Ricoh will have something similar soon. Sounds like they won't? I can't believe that they aren't doing any R&D on it !!

We don't sell the Epson, I do hear that many Ricoh wide format dealers are looking to change. The W3602 is due out something this spring, Ricoh is waiting to exhaust inventories on the W3601. I have not sold a W3601 yet this year and believe I only sold a handful last year, I used to sell at least a dozen a year. The W3602 will have the GUI as the color systems and many of the same features, sad but the GUI and the MFP features will still put us way behind with the likes of KIP & Oce

WOW! Some take ways from the article above: Sharp does not have core business that it can look to in the future 510 billion syndicated loan payment due March of 2016. That's almost 4.2 billion US dollars! Ouch! "The chances of banks calling the 103-year-old company’s loans are therefore low", seems to me like there are more cuts to come, more business units to sell. Banks accepted shares in the company earlier this year after it defaulted on debt payments

Wow!! 12% reduction in sales... I know it is the smaller half year but that seems really light. Something seems to be wrong with the $'s. 50% operating profit would kick off a celebration large enough for all of us to hear.

As far as I know, Ricoh still draws the line at $100,000. The amount of support may vary based on the equipment mix and time of year.

Neal, thanks for the recap. Count me as one of the naughty no-shows. I've gone almost every year for the last 11 years, registered for this year, and at the last minute wasn't able to get away. I'm always fascinated by the marketing at the shows, and sounds like Kodak had an extremely interesting angle.

I havn't seen one placement of the frontier in my territory yet. But that doesn't mean they aren't out there. I see the whole copier industry making a shift to A$ devices in the next 24 months or less, they have too. Price is the driving factor, I've heard it all about A4's, such as "A4's can't hold up to heavy volume", oh yea then why do I see laser printers with hundreds of thousands of prints on them and they weigh under 100lbs? Heck, I just came from an account that has 180K on a Ricoh...

Well, I recycle as well, but my goal is mainly to prevent my trash from winding up in a landfill. As far as the trees, we're currently using more of them than we are replacing. The amount of forested area on the Earth is massive, so cutting down a tree or 100 or 1,000 trees doesn't seem like it makes any effect. Over a 5 year period, we lose about 1% of our forested areas. This means an area previously listed as "forest" has to be reclassified as something else like plain, swamp, etc. That...

It's hard to place an accurate count on the number of trees we lose over a span of time because of the size of the number. Easier to track the loss of areas designated as forests since that highlights the biggest change, usually from nearly 100% of the surface area covered by trees to nearly 0%. The number of trees in a forested acre obviously varies wildly (from about 200 to well over 1,000 per acre), but let's use 500 to start. 500 trees per acre would equal 44 billion trees lost over the...

Agreed, Expanding direct sales was way at the top of Canon's priority list - especially after losing GIS,Danka,IKON. But without "Mega" dealers, this expansion was going to have to happen organically - which is hard. Ask the 8 CBS branches that opened this year without any clients or machines in the field. Given that Oce almost totally relied on direct sales. I would say that they easily have over 30 US sales branches. Maybe closer to 50. Those are both guesses though

May I put in a plug for my personal cause? As a volunteer at our county's animal shelter, I see first hand the good work this shelter does(as well as all the others around the country). The eCopy Solution is not exactly cheap. With ShareScan, all of the Connectors and 5 year M&S on 20 copiers located in six cities, the extra cost is approx. $200k. I need 14x Black 65 cpm and 6x Colour 65 cpm at approx. $200k. I can pitch the $400k but I do not have six independent dealers with any techncial support familiarity with eCopy Share Scan.

Well, we all saw it coming, Panasonic had to be the first to go. Wonder who will be next, I don't see any other manufacturer dropping out like Panasonic, however I do think that another manufacturer will sell it's stake in MFP's in the next year.

I confirmed this w/ my Lexmark DSM, but he says that the re-branded models they're providing for Ricoh will not have the same solutions set as the Lexmark systems available through their BSD channel and that they should have a higher CPC. I'm not sure what the launch date is, because it was originally supposed to be first quarter of this year, but maybe my Lanier DSM meant Q1 of their Fiscal Year, which would mean after March.

Are we on the same wave length here?? Usually a 3-5 means that service and supplies are provided for three years, after three years the customer then has to pay for service, thus raising the cost to them. ie: $100 per month for 60 months includes 3 years of supplies and service for 100K, after the third year or whenever the supplies and service expire, the rep will come back in and refi the remaining 24 months with a new 3-5, they can usually sell this at a lower price that what the customer...

I can agree that they leasing companies (and all lenders) acted foolishly in the past. Now the banks are acting like banks. That's not bad, though it may make it tougher to provide people with equipment you, I and they all know they have no business leasing. [If you were over 2 years in biz, 90% of the time no PG was required.] And now we know that two years in business is not adequate assurance of the company's ability to make the payments, so more assurance is required in the form of a PG.

I ate up a Panasonic A3 deal today. I convinced a current Panasonic A3 customer, they had no where to go one year fron now and flipped them to five Toshiba's worth $68k plus $69k BOP. Don't delay hunt down Panasonic A3 base today!
