Re: MPS and Linux HELP!

jdicarlo ·
So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

Update: To use the "scan to copy" feature> In Web Image Monitor add a destination with Protocol FTP where the server is the IP Address of the device. Under folder authentication use admin w/ password of admin. With this, you can scan to an archive folder and the "scan to copy" destination and acheive 2 things at once. You can also scan from a black & white MFP that has color scanning to a color printer for poor mans color copying.

Re: Scan to Windows 8

Windows 8 uses SMB version 3, most devices are built on SMB version 1 and 2. Version 3 is supposed to be backwards compatible, however most devices running versions 1 and 2 don't have that functionality enabled, or do not understand the newer protocol entirely. Many copier vendors do not have a solution for this yet. Both Ricoh and Toshiba are not scheduled for a solution until Jan 2013. Ricoh Problem Bulletin #TS121417 dated Oct 2012 confirms the same. What is SMB? SMB, which stands for Server Message Block, is a protocol for sharing files, printers, serial ports, and communications abstractions such as named pipes and mail slots between computers. The earliest document I have on the SMB protocol is an IBM document from 1985. It is a copy of an IBM Personal Computer Seminar Proceedings from May 1985. It contains the IBM PC Network SMB Protocol. I have had success with scanning utilizing a Twain driver on a 1060. Here are some things to consider. Personal Firewall Software may be blocking communication on the port that Twain uses to communicate...XP for example has a built-in firewall that will block ports used for various service communications...Port 1022 is used for Twain communication....You can check to see if your pc is "Listening" on 1022 by running netstat -a at a command prompt... Try disabling SNMP on the network...

I am not for sure that this "IS" the problem your experiencing but, this surely will help find this answer. Read the attached PDF. This was just release from Ricoh March 08. I hope this helps. Re: HELP!!!!!

POP3 is Post Office Protocol v3. It's a standard used only to retrieve mail. An alternative to POP3 is IMAP, the Internet Message Access Protocl is also a standard for retrieving mail. Whichever you setup for retrieval, you also need a sending protocol, which is normally SMTP the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. So you are typically setting up POP3 & SMTP, or IMAP & SMTP, with SMTP handling all the sending.
