nice, I guess you can make a pretty good argument for color when there is a decent amount of color plotting that is produced, right? What is the estimated cost per square foot for color?

Thanks for the feedback. To be on the safe side I ended up snaking a 100 foot Cat5 cable back to the fast ethernet switch. I just was not too sure on the stability or how to setup one of these units. When you plug the cat5 into the copier are you using the wireless print server or the wireless bridge? Some wireless print server do not have the bridge from what I read. Can someone explain how to configure one of these units so we all can learn. JasonR what make/model are you using?

The manufacturers are trying to transition to a services-based business model in which they make their profit from service rather than hardware. If they were to release an A4 printer/MFP with the low hardware cost of most A4 devices and the CPP of an A3 device, they shoot themselves in the foot. At some point, A4 devices will have close to the same CPP of A3 devices, but it won't be at the beginning of the lifecycle of this product category/niche. Additionally, revenue from A3 devices would...

Samsung 6345N review! We'll its been about six months since the Samsung 6345N was introduced and about 4 months or so since it has been on the street. For those of you who do not know the 6345N is a 45ppm MFP that can scan, print copy & fax (optional) all for a retail price of $2,995. The system can take an optional fax module along with a finisher/stapler and upto three additional 550 sheet paper trays. Brian: Here we go. When calculating cost of the HP plotters there are two main costs associated with these systems. Paper and Ink. The ink is liquid ink the same type used in ink jet printers. I have calculated and done some very good guessing and have arrived at the cost of .07 cents per square foot for the cost of ink on an average HP plotter. Based on a "d" size drawing which is 24x36 or 6 sqaure feet. The cost for ink is about .42 cents give or take for more or less coverage. I think the...

Chuck,I took the rheinner course, it is the one that is used by Canon. The dealership I was with was dual line, bt frankly the Canon "boot camp" was a tremenous waste of time. I received my designation in June of '08; all of the info was relevant you just have to make sure you read the whole study guide as I found that many of the questions were from some of their foot notes. Hope this helps.

Your post brings this system to lite, I do not know much about the product, except it is an inkjet system with a wide format scanner attached. My first thoughts is that the ink is usually around .10 cents a square foot. Best quality is on ink jet wide format paper, plus the print speed for copies is probably very slow. Will keep looking for more infor. Please post any additional information here as you can.

Thanks for the help. We got the sale. 240W + Encad T-200+. The client needs B/W production more than they need color production so our solution was somewhat ahead of HPs solution from the beginning. Moreover, the speed and functional superiority of our equipment outdueled HP this time. Pricing: We were about the same. Maintenance Costs: About the same. Running cost per square foot...about 1/2 of HP. Again, thanks for the help.

Some more points. Windows Driver is GDI only! Probably very slow when printing pdf from various clients! Users can't stack scan like the 240W, the must scan and remove each page one at a time. Another waste of time! You must press the stop button after every copy (got this right from the OP manual). No Photo exposure, no text photo, all I saw in the manual was three adjustments for Contrast and three adjustments for Exposure. Shaft Paper Roll! Hold onto to your back and clear a large space...

Jason, in Canada the IPF models are sold through the dealer channel but in the US they're sold through the consumer channel. I've had a situation too where a customer purchased it in the US for less than my cost. I've had success using those systems to knock out customers who are replacing their toner-based Oce systems. They're expecting to pay $10-20,000 and a Canon inkjet plotter is $2000. There's not always great margins in them but they're a foot in the door to the MFP and supplies.
