Re: MPS and Linux HELP!

jdicarlo ·
So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

Re: Color Print Control

JasonR ·
No, absolutely none of them do this. There is no MFP/printer (at least from Ricoh/Canon/HP/Lexmark/Kyocera) that will print a (truly) black document and click it for color. Now, there are many many times that a document appears to be B&W to the human eye and contains color to the computer's eye. The most famous instance of this is Acrobat 4. Acrobat4?!?!? you say? No one uses Acrobat4! But that's not true. For compatibility's sake, many scanners with a direct to PDF option (even...

Thanks Art. We are using simple authentication here and found that it does work when using direct tcp/ip printing but not when going through a print server. The other brands of copiers that we deal with (Toshiba, Sharp, Kyocera) don't have that problem with their PS drivers. Interesting to see what the bug in their driver is. Thanks no_dice

hello all, we have just had a solution or a workarond, up to now. We have got everything working as it should by using PCL 5 driver instead of PCL 6. We are still monitoring but for the past 2 days we had no more problems. Ricoh are working on PCL 6 for some sort of bug as well as a reason that causes the machine to fall back to printer defauks settings after each print job when using RPCS. Will keep you posted.

Critical Bug Opens Millions of HP OfficeJet Printers to Attack

Art Post ·
A malicious fax sent to an HP Inc. OfficeJet all-in-one inkjet printer can give hackers control of the printer and act as a springboard into an attached network environment. LAS VEGAS – Tens of millions of fax-ready HP OfficeJet inkjet printers are vulnerable to a simple hack that gives an attacker full control over a targeted printer. Once compromised, the all-in-one OfficeJet could act as a springboard for deeper network penetration by an attacker. Here at DEF CON, researchers at Check...

I have had this happen before with a PC that had McAfee Anti Virus loaded on it. You have to update McAfee to fix the issue. It is a McAfee created problem and they acknowledge it. Go to McAfee and search for (Case No: 758588, Hotfix HF214636). Also, check out this FAQ from Ricoh Corp website I attached. It will explain also.

Here, here Jim, I too believe the end may be near, hopefully not in my selling career. I love my job and love what I do. All of the directs are subsidized (hope I spelled that right) by the parent companies. There's and old saying "if you can't bet them, join them". Seriously, I have been thinking more and more about this. Re: Windows 7 & Plotbase

Definitely not supported... I don't have any personally, I hear "reports" of issues. The sticker from the technical side is always... Let's say the customer has a problem, you call for support and start to work thru the issue. They ask what OS and you say Windows7. BAM, call is over, they won't help you any further. This might be an easily fixed, "normal" issue, but because you are on a non-supported OS, they won't spend time on the phone with you because they can never be SURE if it's just...

Re: Scan Router Lite Delivery Server

From: Lee Sent: 7/8/2002 10:46 PM Is ScanRouter Lite not the neatest little piece of software? Here are some of the things that we do with the product: As recommended by Ricoh, we don't recommend installing it on a primary domain controller (PDC) or backup domain controller (BDC). I do have at least a couple installed on domain controllers, and they are working fine, but I always reserve the right to say "I told you so!" Re: 550 Falling off Network

Graham ·
From: Lee Sent: 12/3/2002 6:25 PM Let's fix this thing: These fixes apply to all of the machines with the NIB-450 network card 1. Make sure that you have the network interface card up to the latest level of firmware (4.03). There were several bugs in the older firmware that specifically make it appear to fall off the network. What happens is the machine runs out of paper, and then jobs keep slamming the nic. When paper is added, it completes the job that it is working on, and then drops off...

Re: IP Printing from Winxp to 551

Graham ·
From: Lee Sent: 10/15/2002 9:11 PM If you were sharing it out to the various operating systems, you would need to install drivers for those operating systems to make it "point and print." Otherwise, when clicking on the share to add the printer, you will get a message saying that drivers were not found and that you will need to provide them (browse to the appropriate downloaded drivers and click OK). On the 551 with a peerless controller, the Standard TCP/IP should work. If it doesn't, go to...

Re: Print Controller for 551

Lee ·
I think it will work! The firmware files for both controllers are the same (0.58). I have found one strange bug in the 1055 driver (definitley the driver, not the controller) and used a 700 driver to work around it with no side effects. I have submitted the bug to Ricoh to see what they say about it. Once I hear from them, I'll post some info on it here. I'll try to catch a 551 or 700 going through refurb and install one of these on it to see. Thanks! Lee

OK I was only thinking of the 3850. I couldn't think of an example of a machine with GWA and a Fiery option, the 2105 is one. The "bug" we are speaking of only applies to Ricoh controllers in GWA machines. That should be more clear =)
