In wartime, various controls were imposed on goods and materials, and radios were no exception. Sharp was making radios for for military aircraft, and the army. In 1942 company gets its name as SHARP from previos Hayakawa Electric Industry. The age of television in Japan began in 1953 when Sharp became the first Japanese company to mass produce TV sets.
