Re: Can a Digital Copier Scan to Dropbox?

GrantW ·
Great Post Art. Xerox have a DropBox app available for their new ConnectKey devices but the user has to buy a scanpack which cover X number of scans and has a 12 month shelf-life. The advantages of having it on the MFD as an App is that any user (e.g. at a college) can log in to their DropBox account and print or scan to / from their own account securely. We've been doing the same as you and circumventing the charge or need for an app by pointing the scan to a DropBox folder on a desktop.

Art, I loved this column, especially the lead- in history of your start as a technician. That was me in 1978-79. I worked for a Canon subsidiary in Union NJ as a tech. Just moved here from Ohio. My service manager told the owner after a year " he is a passable tech but he keeps losing his tools". It was a sign from God, I guess. Good luck on your quest. Is Sharp changing a good sign? If it doesn't is this bad, or does it mean it is continuing its commitment to our industry? I have two points I will add that may help him out. First, don't assume anything when it comes to customers and their money. We had a rep who we were working with one day and he drove by a building. I asked him why he wasn't stopping and he said look at that place, there's no way that guy has any money to buy a copier. Avoid Insulting the Customer Obvious, right? Well, people do it without even realizing by using comments like "did you understand that?" and "are you following what I'm saying?". Re: Connect the MFPs you sell to any folder

When connecting an MFP to say DropBox, the MFP still doesn't allow for an end-user to view that DropBox's folder tree (without added software), correct? So essentially the customer scans to DropBox, heads back to their computer, and then searches around the DropBox folder until they find their scanned file - which isn't much different than the issue the end-user described in the first place? Am I correct in this? I've been looking around for a solution that can help with this that won't...

Re: Connect the MFPs you sell to any folder

Hello TimW, Thank you for that question. I think it is very relevant, especially as we do have the browse feature for SharePoint. For cloud services such as Dropbox, Micorosoft OneDrive and Google Drive, Udocx enables users to scan directly to any pre-define folder. This means users can scan to several specific destinations within Dropbox. For example, if you want to scan to the 'orders' folder within Dropbox regularly, you can make a 'scan to orders' App. This App will be available to you...

Re: Connect the MFPs you sell to any folder

Hi Iris, Thank you for the response! This helps, but the folders still need to be pre-defined, which would be the same thing as setting up a shared folder, no? And the MFP can do that natively. So out of the box, the installing technician could conceivably set up "Scan to Dropbox -Orders," "Scan to Drop-Box - Leads," "Scan to Drop-Box - Accounts Receivable" since no software is needed for this. Or am I incorrect? It sounds like the major plus to Udocx would be the ability to view the folder...

Hi Timw, I would definitely recommend setting up multiple shared folders! I know this will save your customers a lot of time and really add value to the service you provide. Especially when every end-user gets direct access to the folders he or she uses most. Having this kind of conversation with your prospects is sure to give you insight into what is important to them and which solution will suit their needs best. You'll be surprised how many prospects aren't sure what the MFPs will be used...

I think that while in theory this sounds good, it's not gonna fly. Already we're competing against dealers who have color clicks down to $.039 and black clicks down to $.005-$.006 on moderate speed office color units (35 & 45 ppm units). And these aren't those staggered click prices that Kyocera or Xerox dealers are offering for different forms of color (a splash, a bit, or full color). Even if they double click them, you're then back to industry standard for clicks, but most aren't...
