Re: UPDATE 3-Canon buys Dutch Oce for $1.1 bln, fights Ricoh

KM has strengthened itself dramatically in the past 5 years and while losing this distribution channel is a kick in the rear, the biggest impact will be losing the high end Oce'. Would tend to think that will lead to KM getting deeper in bed with Kodak. I worked for Oce' for two years and frankly they are going to have to learn how NOT to sell on the lowest price now that they are being directed by Canon.

Something to think about as well, adding to what was mentioned by Mega. The Japanese division is making the bulk of their profits on the manufacturing of toner. That is the money tree for them. They sell to Ricoh USA and they work through their channels to distribute the boxes. The ultimate goal is to “place the box” Ricoh USA makes their overhead by the profit on the box moving it to the Dealer and other channels. The profit make by selling the box is what keeps the “Reps paid and the...

Blunder #4: They don’t learn how the customer buys. What they do: They get deeply involved in a sales opportunity without finding out what’s unique about the customer’s buying process. Why they do it: Usually this happens when the reps is focused on the sales process. The reps keeps thinking about how to sell, rather than about how the customer is going to buy. What happens: Worst case, the rep loses the deal. Best case, the rep experiences inexplicable delays as the customer takes actions...

Additionally, MPS has forced everyone to learn how to service HP devices if they didn't already, & anyone can pick up faster HP A4 desktops from Tech Data, & the CPP will be very comparable. Thanks for the feedback. To be on the safe side I ended up snaking a 100 foot Cat5 cable back to the fast ethernet switch. I just was not too sure on the stability or how to setup one of these units. When you plug the cat5 into the copier are you using the wireless print server or the wireless bridge? Some wireless print server do not have the bridge from what I read. Can someone explain how to configure one of these units so we all can learn. JasonR what make/model are you using?

Without limits? If you sold a 171 and the customer had 50 workstations, you would install the print driver (and then the fax driver) on every one of them? My suggestion is to incorporate a reasonable limit to the installs. The customer needs to learn how to install the driver anyway since I doubt you would come back out in six months to install a driver on their new PC. Five workstations per device seems to work well. That's enough to make sure everything is working and train the customer...

Plus have to be experts in two different lines and everything that goes along with it and let's face it, today there is much more than the box that you have learn to be the expert. I think Ricoh has a broad line now with the addition of the Print Production Units and I believe these systems will only get better from Ricoh. Instead of assuming what they know, start determining what they need/want to learn in order to fill in this gap and ensure clear communication. What may seem old or common to you is new to them.
