Re: Special Announcement from Art
CONGRATS ART! So excited for you and your family! Sucks to have been knocked with the flue so close to the birth of your grandchild, but take the great with the bad. I know we've spoke about it before, but my wife's still pregnant as yesterdays due date came and went. Kid doesn't realize he's impeding on poppa's schedule to sell! Congrats and get better soon!

Re: 7 Deadly Topics from 7 Deadly Sinners at Top 100 Summit (Part One)
Is it just me, it seems that the general rule of thumb for the copier industry to end users is "the take or leave approach". Meaning, come hell or high water we're not going to change the way we bill, the way we support, or the financial solutions that we offer. While I was at the Top 100 conference, a rep from Wells Fargo spoke about the billing options that they now have in their leases. One of the options was for seat billing for managed IT services. My thought is that if it's available...

Re: Ricoh & Epson = "perfect together" NOT!
They are never going to get their act together. I spoke with Jim Corridi at the CDA meeting several months ago and he told me big things were coming down the pipeline very soon because he agreed it would be hard to upgrade 3406WD systems with a 3406WD system. He also, however, acted like the Epson was going to be the latest and greatest thing for all of us that sell wide format. Not sure why since we don't typically mess with the ink jet machines. You can find the Epson's extremely cheap...

Re: Copier Parts & Accessories China Tariff Starts in 9 Working Days
" Whatever money the Trump Administration gave away to its citizens in its tax cuts of 2017 it is now going to claw back with higher taxes disguised as tariffs. " When one door closes another door opens. Many US companies can benefit from the higher tariffs placed on goods from China. In fact I spoke to one of those companies last Thursday. I disagree that the tax cuts are going to claw their way back with higher taxes disguised as tariffs. In the end, what Trump wants is fair trade practice...

Re: Booklet printing with saddle stitch using Adobe Indesign CS5
BTW, John and I spoke on the phone, he wasn't referring to my "what's the error?" post Error: Undefined usually indicates data corruption or communication loss. It is not usually a true "Error". In a true PS error, there is a problem with the PS code, in an Undefined error, there is usually either no code or garbage.

Re: JOINT STATEMENT BY SHARP ELECTRONICS CORPORATION AND EDWARD MCLAUGHLIN
These are all very interesting comments. Not sure if anyone has seen the videos and new interface on the color systems. Watch those videos on youtube and see yes that is a cool interface but is it really practical? From talking with others this is a very confusing non-friendly user interface compared to the previous MX color series. I think this is going to hurt this color series in the long run. The real challenge comes when there are MX units in an account then add this Aries series. Or...

Re: Billing For Banner Length Prints
My understanding is that the MFP "clicks" every time it measures X length (based on single/double click) pass the registration roller. That being the case, the banner would charge for whatever length passes, so (assuming single click 11x17) if you print a 34" banner, the MFP will click 2 times. Interestingly, if you print a 42 inch banner, the meter should click 2.47 times. Those fractions aren't visible, but the technician I spoke with assured me the machine remembers them and adds them up...

Re: Proximity Card Reader
I had gotten the name of the type of card from the GM and I called the card manufacturer and the Technican I spoke with said the cards were MIFARE. My understanding of the cloud solution would allow guests to login to their google docs or sharepoint account for direct prints. What other options are available? The hotel's mainframe is on a program called OPERA. I like the credit/card/bill/coin-op solution, I hadn't thought about that. Additional food for thought.... Are there any card readers...

Re: Managed Print Services Fuels Growth of Service Point USA
Service Point USA closed their doors! Out of Business. I was informed by one of my customers who used Service Point that they had closed their doors. Then spoke to a friend who use to work for them as a wide format sales specialist. He said they brought is a top Executive that was suppose to "save" the company. He started cutting positions, and kept cutting, and cutting. While I understand you must control costs, you can't cut your way to growth (I think he proved that). You must bring in...

Re: GEM Promo Pricing
I spoke to Barbara Lindley this morning. She said there is no conclusive date when the GEM PROMO pricing will be out for the new systems. She suggested we sell them 1085/1105's which are still on the old schedule, which is still in effect for true GEM/GSA customers. I told her my customer knows the 1085/1105 are being replaced, and wants the new system. She said I have to stay with standard GEM/GSA pricing.

I spoke to our internal IT people and they are aware of Caltype. Feed back was that it is not much of a package. We use OMD. My sense over the years is that OMD is not perfect, but it does a pretty good job of managing the business behind the scenes. Consider sticking it out with OMD and hire someone to come in and get your dealership where it needs to be with it. I know someone that provides consulting services in OMD and the person is a former partner in MMI Consulting. Feel free to give...

Re: Big Tom Out as Prez at Ricoh
Just the beginning...? It has now been a little over six months since the merger of Lanier and Ricoh into Ricoh Americas Corporation. During that time, there have been many changes in our organization and we have all experienced some of the good and some of the bad that change brings. The merger of two organizations having different cultures, systems and business methods is a difficult undertaking and what we have seen since April 1 certainly confirms that fact. I am aware of how hard all of...

Re: Ricoh Rumor!! New Strategy?
We have a half dozen or so in the field, no complaints here, I did watch a customer send a print job of a 100 page booklet and there was no pause. Is this just happening with copies? If so, it could be a memory issue. The machine that I spoke about had the memory upgrade installed before we put it in the field. That may be the issue. Let me know what you come up with.

Re: Aficio FW240 NEWS
Has anyone seen anything in writing on this model (brochure, pricing, etc.)? I just spoke with Savin and I'm told it is being launched in two weeks, so I figure there has to be info available somewhere. I have a bid due today and would love to include this model (the client is preparing to purchase a plotter for a satellite office along with several MFP's). I am waiting on a reply from Savin, but I'm not holding my breath. I'll let you know what I find (if anything). Brian

Re: When selling wide format
Thats one of the biggest cost is for outsourcing the copies. Another is the cost to produce a drawing on a plotter compared to the cost on our system. John and I spoke the other day and we believe the savings is .45 - .65 cent savings per "D" size drawing. Any others?? Art

I'll second what Art said. We can compete with the directs at times here. We don't typically see the down and dirty IKON acquisition pricing that was below what we can buy it for anymore but its still pretty low at times especially with multiple machines. My rep told us that the directs are always complaining about how they can't compete with the dealers on price. I still laugh at that. There is no way we have better pricing than our direct in our market. I have seen the quotes that I cannot...

Re: Buyer Zone: Yay or Nay?
So I tried them out from October until January and Jason was right on the money. For the first month two months the quality of leads were semi-decent, $27.00 per lead, won two (although couldn't get them lease approved) They had a minimum dollar thresh hold of $1K for hardware and for some reason removed it from their criteria in December. It went from legitimate A3 and small A4 to people looking for, at best, a $300 Staples printer, price shopping Costco for home office and used equipment.

I spoke to a guy the other day and his employee had put a lead in as a joke and he said I was about the 10th or 12th person to call him about it. Re: Buyer Zone: Yay or Nay?
That's just it, we won 2 deals but couldn't get either of them of approved. I think one of other big fails is they fail to deliver a message that vendors are paying for the service. I've had a few customers who actually screamed at me that they had no idea what they were getting themselves into by clicking submit. I recently went back and revisited all of the BZ leads we never got hold of, and although and less then 5% of all of the people I spoke to said they bought a system from BZ.
