The imagepress is about $25,000 more retail and offers a lot more professional finishing features than the Ricoh. The Canon also has a better reputation in the production printing market. Usually when people look at gear this fast they really pay attention to reliability and quality of build. There is a lot of metal in the Canon, not as much in the KM and mostly plastic in the Ricoh.

Re: Time in business requirements

I can agree that they leasing companies (and all lenders) acted foolishly in the past. Now the banks are acting like banks. That's not bad, though it may make it tougher to provide people with equipment you, I and they all know they have no business leasing. [If you were over 2 years in biz, 90% of the time no PG was required.] And now we know that two years in business is not adequate assurance of the company's ability to make the payments, so more assurance is required in the form of a PG.

This was an article from the NY times over the weekend! SHIBATA-MACHI, Japan — When the ground shook violently on the afternoon of March 11, the ceiling collapsed in part of the huge Ricoh copier factory here, exposing the vents and wires above. The offices at the Ricoh plant near Sendai are still in disrepair; workers have focused on restoring the factory and production. The ceiling is still not fixed. I agree with almost all of everyone's statements. The truth is its just going to get harder for each of the second tier guys to grow and succeed and considering that Sharp, Kyocera, and Toshiba all have plenty of options outside of printing it would not be shocking to hear if some of them left or sold-out in the next five years. However, the feeling I get is that each of them still has some fight left and although they all face some headwinds none are actively working on their exit strategy.

Yes...all this "you have to provide solutions" talk is all fine and good but it's still a numbers game. What they have (or who they call for service should tell you what they have), whether they own or lease, are they 100% satisfied, and who makes the decisions. Your questions can't come across as an interrogation or you won't get any info from the receptionist. But if you are...

I know it is difficult to see it yet, but your employer has done you a big favor. Existence in that environment would have been miserable. I agree with much of what Mr. Shaw says. A previous employer who initiated your termination will not be allowed to restrict your ability to earn a living in your chosen field. If you had left him, a non-compete becomes more difficult to beat. However, in your case, even if you had quit, you would have grounds based on the change in payplan, especially if...

Here's my thinking and I should have elaborated a little more and should have been more detailed. 1000 pages per month @ .05 profit per page = $50, minus cost of giving away 500 @ .05 = $25, net profit (based on .10) is $25 per month, per machine. Yeah, I goofed! However, I also though of this. With monthly billing or quarterly billing to add a monthly service charge of $25 (for processing paperwork, meter reads etc,), if this can be done you are back up to $50 per unit. Re: Ricoh MPC6000 vs Xerox WC7665

Mr. Copy (Guest) ·
You are just lucky that they did not bring up the fact that the Xerox is 8 bit vs the Ricoh 4 bit. Whenever someone starts talking about resolution say that 600x600 is true dpi. Anything over 600x600 is an emulation. Simply put, the machine guesses where dots should go so your solids tend to be inconsistent. See if that works.

It couldn't be that the "normal" retirement age for men in Japan is 60, and that Mr. Yoshida is now past that age? I base this on the fact that his bio shows him joining Ricoh in 1967 with a bachelor's degree, so I assume he was at least 21 at the time, giving him a "born on" date of 1946 or earlier. They also have less registration issues than we do. Keep in mind that a press could be $30,000 or $300,000 or $1,000,000 plus so it kind of depends on what type of press you are being...
