Re: What's the weirdest place you've sold a copier to?
Picking up a signed order in the morning for a Canon color with hole punch and staple, from an Amish farmer-printer. Best two parts of the qualification process was having to run samples of a digital plate to run his offset presses and ensuring the power was in spec to be run off of his diesel generator/alternator set up. Oh yea, and he's got a tow motor we have to use to get it to the second floor. Been selling almost nine years and have been in lots of unique places too. Starbucks roasting...

Re: Hiring Sales Reps - what are you hearing
Surprising there are no replies yet. I would figure this to be a "hot" topic. We recently found one in the age demographic that will work out. He has more than a 45 minute ride, has closed a few orders already. Maybe you need to show them $500 at the interview and ask how they would like to get that $500, by working a week or trying to talk you out of it. After reading your thread it seems that neither of those "salespeople" have the "desire" to compete, yet alone the determination to "win".

Re: Need HELP! Kyocera Color A3 question
Top three points I make when against Kyocera. #1. Take them color samples from your device and any Kyocera because the color output is sub par on all units. If you don’t have access to one look in your crm for an account you co-exist with Kyocera in. Or the next time you have a knock out make some samples and keep them in a binder. If color quality is important to the customer it will be a win. Another point is showing them you get what you pay for, meaning 3 tier color is what they have...

Re: Will outside Sales Rep's go away?
@Monte I hope/think that even though buyers will research online that they will still want some interaction with a salesperson. If in fact the manufacturers allow the sale of high end MFP's online then the dealers will have to change a lot of how they do business. My hope though is that it does not come down to this. I buy a lot online and my wife grocery shops online and has them delivered to the house, BUT I don't look at most things like groceries. I want to go talk to my insurance agent.

Re: 7 Deadly Topics from 7 Deadly Sinners at Top 100 Summit (Part One)
Is it just me, it seems that the general rule of thumb for the copier industry to end users is "the take or leave approach". Meaning, come hell or high water we're not going to change the way we bill, the way we support, or the financial solutions that we offer. While I was at the Top 100 conference, a rep from Wells Fargo spoke about the billing options that they now have in their leases. One of the options was for seat billing for managed IT services. My thought is that if it's available...

There are a lot more of those than there used to be. That's why our industry has to change the way they add prospects to the pipeline. Re: Toshiba now has tier based CPC's?
Hi, we sell Toshiba in the UK. The current colour range can run with a two tiered counter already. We used to sell the Kyocera range with this feature it seemed to be good and won us business, but lost us money in service. When colour costs are dropping to 4p, the percentage of toner from the 4p is getting less. So to breaking this down into 3 tiers could seem marginal. But let say you could offer 1.5p for 2% coverage then 2.5p for 2-5% coverage and then 4p for above, you have now lost out...

I do find the Ricoh's to be very reliable. What they need is speed though, IMO. Have worked with a steel maker on some projects and he has 4 big Oce's that run all day long, 5 days a week. He loved the 3406 but said he would have to buy about 8 or 10 of them do the same work the 4 high speed Oce's run. He wouldn't bite on the 7140's either.

Re: Xerox explores sale of leasing finance unit: sources
Oce did that 10 years ago and went bust. They didn't realise how much they relied on the monthly rental income and how inflexible third party leasing companies are when you want to upgrade mid term. The financing arm is usually the most profitable side of the business. High interest rate to customers, low rates for them and if the customer goes bust you generally get you equipment back and at the end of the contract you get your gear back.

KM has strengthened itself dramatically in the past 5 years and while losing this distribution channel is a kick in the rear, the biggest impact will be losing the high end Oce'. Would tend to think that will lead to KM getting deeper in bed with Kodak. I worked for Oce' for two years and frankly they are going to have to learn how NOT to sell on the lowest price now that they are being directed by Canon.

The growth is on the very high end and the very low end in the this business. I would tend to think that it's not long before the copier manufacturers attack the extreme high end in years to come. I used to work for a dealership that sold Sharp (when this came out). It is a very nice box, the ultrasonic feeding in awesome, and the pricing for parts and consumables is aggressive. The mistake that Sharp made was to not do a beta program with commercial printers and other high volume users. The irony of Larry's statement is that I would not consider Ricoh a player here. They are chasing Xerox, Canon etc in Seg. 6 and 7, and are seriously held back by their lack of a production color unit.

Since Ricoh is a Japanese manufacturer and sells its product to the US Ricoh company and then US Ricoh sells it to a dealer or direct, the profits can be structured to be very little if any in the US and very profitable in Japan. Ex: cost to manufacture is 10, sell to US mfg. sales concern for 20, US concern sells it for 22, dealers or direct sell it for 24. The cost of goods to the US is high and the profits remain...

When using the Ricoh High Compression PDF, the document is divided into the part of the character which is compressed by MMR and the part of the photograph which is compressed by JPEG. This results in the image becoming clearer and the capacity being reduced to a smaller file size.
