Re: 10 Ways to Close Net New Business #4 of #10
Just a short update in reference to the account I was speaking about. The IG came back with many additional questions today, asking if the cost per page could be lowered, the annual cost of the maintenance agreement, and the price of the system. I stated NO on all accounts. We had started with a 25ppm color A3 device and then moved to an A4 color device. They were not even happy with that price. In addition when they received all of the no's they asked about pre-owned or used. I then stated,...

Re: Is selling at cost the future for print hardware?
Without a value statement that goes beyond copiers and even mps at this point --- people will be selling at cost, because they are transient, non-professional, and either don't have or have confidence in their skill set. The Trick is to work with companies that aren't in the market to buy copiers---I guarantee that their are other challenges that they are facing and trying to overcome...When you do this you can sell at retail, because there is no competition and you earned that commission.

Re: OKI Data and Toshiba Tec Agree to Joint Development of Multifunction Printers
Rumors have swirled for years on Toshiba's exit of the MFP industry. Inspite..... of their recent and aggressive dealer acquisitions. Neither entity is strong enough to stand on its on. Especially due to the consolidation the industry has already seen. Ricoh/Ikon, Canon/OCE, Konica/Minolta, etc. I agree that both have been low price leaders in the US market as well, and the marriage is a good one. This is the start of Toshiba's exit, and eventual sale to Oki Data. Oki Data just didnt have...

We use Telemagic in our office and it seems to do the trick..They have developed a module specificly for our industry and there are a number of management tools that allow you to set up letters, custom letters, email etc that is automated for customer and lead follow up. You can also share a calendar with the rest of your office. My only beef with this is that there is no way to import / export your calendar into or out of outlook with Telemagic. Graham

Re: Gas Price Check
The Theory in general is that the large U.S. Companies sacrifice their profits (which can be determined by looking at the price of a barrel of crude vs. the price of a gallon of gas) around elections when they are wanting the existing party to stay in power. The price of crude may also fall some, but the amount that the price of gas at the pump drops is significantly higher than can be attributed to the slight decline in crude. As far as it being "near the election" I'd say it is very near...

Re: Email from Canon P4P'er "Ricoh Direct Pricing"
It is sad that Ricoh has laid open the market and is allowing the direct reps to compete in current RFG business. The direct operation for Konica Minolta has been put on notice that if they walk into a current KM customer, then they are to turn around and walk out the door. That's from tRick Taylor himself. That doesn't mean if you're a duel line dealer and have non Konica Minolta equipment in there, then it's fair game, but KM is trying to protect its dealer side.

Re: Customers Recapturing costs
Equitrac is good, I have a customer using a few of them with a DSc338. Recently had to find something for a 445 and I think the built in codes (500) will do the trick, printing, faxing and copying. The reports are not automatic but will count per user code and color vs black/white. Also good is PrintAudit @ $75./seat. I considered Printer Cost and Security Manager from Ricoh and while there are plenty of links for new Zealand and europe, there isnt much in usa. Ricoh has one page on it and...

Where were you six months ago when I had to hunt and find this on my own! THANKS for the info! These fixes "aka: registry hacks" will do the trick very well. A simple uninstall doesn't get rid of all the information and if you don't get rid of these keys it can really mess you up if you are on a secure Win NT/Win2k domain. You have to use these to get it all removed correctly. Graham

Re: Banner Printing on Muratec Color MFP - MFX C2590
The trick with banner printing is to create your document in Word, Publisher, Illustrator or whatever software you use with the document format set to the size you would like to print the finished banner and then save your file as a PDF. You then print the PDF file NOT the native format file. Make sure the bypass tray on your machine is set to Driver Command or whatever Muratec calls it. In the print driver just select your bypass tray and odds are it will just work with no further...

Re: Processor Cores
You are correct that 4 cores aren't 2x as fast as two cores. As Art said, "Faster is better" and 4 cores are definitely faster. One trick here is that the cores process different threads at the same time, but don't think about it as scanning and printing and faxing. Each separate function probably has a dozen tasks associated with it and those can now be processed faster with multiple cores. Is it faster? Yes. Is this a huge deal? No. Would the customer notice any difference in the end?

Re: Printing on Vellum 4550ci
PJS Maybe try to just sell them a color laser printer? I know that ink based systems will do the trick, but not sure if Kyo has any of those. I recently sold a Ricoh 11x17 laser printer to an account for the same process. However, I had to make sure the printer I sold them printed at 1200 dpi. You may also want to change the vellum. Make sure you are using vellum for a laser printer and not ink based. I would check with Azon and tell em the P4P Hotel sent you.

Re: Ten plus Tips for Cold Calling in the Field
I have two points I will add that may help him out. First, don't assume anything when it comes to customers and their money. We had a rep who we were working with one day and he drove by a building. I asked him why he wasn't stopping and he said look at that place, there's no way that guy has any money to buy a copier. Turns out this guy was a fairly big developer and that building was his new office. They had not started construction on the project yet. They went in and the office had a...

Re: Ten plus Tips for Cold Calling in the Field
I also meant to add that as a newbie its important to know as many people as possible. I have reps who know many different people all the way down to the security guards at big facilities. I, like Art, probably don't prospect enough. I'm lucky to get 25 calls a week compared to my reps who probably do 30-40 a day, but still have about a 600,000 book of revenues each year. Even in a management role I can't get it out of my system to go out and sell. It's taken me close to 10 years but now I...

Re: Ten plus Tips for Cold Calling in the Field
All great stuff. I'd like to add in a few more points. 1) Never use a cold call to sell, only to gather information. Receptionists and office managers are loaded with information because they are the primary users. Ask if they are having any problems with their copiers and you might be surprised with what you hear. 2) The 4 most important questions you need to answer in every cold call: What do they have? How long have they had it? Who is the decision maker? Who was their previous vendor? 3)...

Re: Ten plus Tips for Cold Calling in the Field
My thoughts, some of which repeat what others have said, maybe in a different way: I cold call for information, phone call for appointments to a large degree. What I would add to Czech's 4 point list is to ask who they call for maintenance. That usually tells you, not only the company, but the brand, and if the receptionist doesn't know, then they likely don't have many problems. I almost always separate fact find from presentation. Too many reps "get an answer" then "do some selling", "get...

Re: A Funny Thing Happened while Phone Cold Calling Today
I love it when people say that. I have pointed it out to people and actually sold them a system after they realized how stupid they sounded saying they didn't accept calls/drop in's from Sales People. I have politely told business owners down to receptionists that I hope their sales reps are not treated the way I was when I walked into their office when they are in the field trying to earn a potential clients business.

Re: A Funny Thing Happened while Phone Cold Calling Today
If I could make sixty calls in one day I would feel like Superman. What's your secret? My current process is: a) Research the prospect and company b) Write out a potential value proposition c) Contact the customer to schedule an appointment d) Depending on the outcome, follow up with an email or LinkedIn message 4 calls per hour * 6 hours = ~ 24 calls / day

3 Things Sales Reps Need to Do To Help Smash Their Sales In 2019
To everyone in sales, you can perform much better and become more successful, if you just learn to master with consistency the basics. Vince Lombardi , the great Green Bay Packers coach, once said that football comes down to only two things: Blocking on offense and tackling on defense, and those are the basics his teams spent 80% of their time on in practice. Many analogies have been made between sales and sports. It’s often been said the one key fundamental principle in sports is to focus...

COVID19 "Remote Working" Day Forty-Six of Sales
Yesterday I had my first appointment in the field in more than two months. Re: Prospecting On The Street: The first in a series
when you look at it, there are so many various ways of getting the job done. the trick is to use the appropriate one when needed. there is nothing like experience; it alone allows you the luxury of digging into your "bag of ideas" and use the one for the situation. when a rep first starts out he or she needs to make up for his or her inexperience than activity. sooner or later you begin to replace quantity with quality. managing activity alone will drive people out of this business. a rep...

Re: When is the release date for HP Edgeline
We clocked the 11x17 color at ~5 PPM. A neat trick to do with the machine is to print out a document and then use a highlighter to mark an area. If you rub the highlighter back and forth (don't have to press hard) the area you highlight will smear. Then leave it on your desk for 24 hours and try it again, it still smears (bad enough that text becomes a black unreadable blob).

Re: Printing from bypass tray on Ricoh MPC4500
Ah, I believe it can, you've just got to have the right media selected. Once thick stocks have been selected the system will not allow you to duplex from the by-pass tray, they key os top trick the machine and tell the by-pss it is feeding regular or somewhat regular stock and then cross your fingers and hope all goes well with print reproduction and no jammin.

Re: Printing from bypass tray on Ricoh MPC4500
No, the key is to rewrite the firmware so it will accept duplexing and bypass. Otherwise you cant do it.

Some but not all Toshiba Saddle Stitch Finishers can do the "fall into the box" trick. You have to remove part of the output hopper and disconnect a sensor. I believe for the 35 - 45 cpm Black and Colour Copiers these Finishers are actually relabelled Canon product.

I think the Ball Park/Game was the trick, the customers who attended felt obligated to "go through the motions'. Which I knew some where and there were a few who were really into the demo. Re: SUB CODING
If the sub code is a for example the 4 digit number that you have to input when you get a 2nd dialtone, then this will do the trick: dial the faxnumber and then press the pause key twice (maybe even more) and then input the subcode. This will create a pause between the faxnumber and the subcode. This works with almost all brands.

Re: The Future of Scanning for MFP's aka Copiers is in the Cloud
Art, Interesting read! Here's a little "trick" I figured out. Setting up Cloud Scanning is very easy and can be without any additional software if the cloud storage offers a folder on your PC. For example, Dropbox and Google Drive when installed place "drag and drop" folders on your desktop. You can then set up a small workflow for scanning to the cloud by registering a Scan To Shared Folder and set the Dropbox or Google Drive folder as your destination. Your scanned document will...

Re: Canon C250/350if not copying yellow highlighter
I've seen this also with some Ricoh devices, had a customer that wanted to scan highlighted wide format specs. Before I presented the system, I bought three different sets of highlighters to see what worked best. I would have them change that highlighted to a different brand or a different color and see if that does the trick
