Re: MPS and Linux HELP!

jdicarlo ·
So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

Re: Savin SPC221SF and scan to email

Bill Knight ·
I know this is 3 weeks old but the reason that you can not send through Comcast e-mail server is because they are securing the server. Look in the customers e-mail settings in Outlook to get what you need. It is under Authentication and not all MFD's are capable of this. POP Server: Requires SSL SMTP Server: Requires POP before SMTP, port 465, and authentication of POP before SMTP or just authentication of just he name and password. Hope this helps.

Even for machines that have a wireless option, it's generally cheaper to sell them a wireless print server that plugs into the copier's network port. We do it all the time.

scanning is thru a network only. Why not use the Ethernet port, connect a WAP to the Ethernet port and then connect the WAP to the wireless network. WAP = Wireless Access Port. You can get a wireless switch to act as a WAP pretty cheap and don't have to run around in circles.

I think the title is a rosey picture, however there are many problems other than the manufacturing plant such as damaged shipping port in Sendai, road infrastructure, and still rolling black outs. Japan does not have the network of roads that we have here in the USA. Toner is still a big issue, and I don't believe what the Japanese government is telling.

Let me be very clear.... The wireless ether net bridge option that I talked of earlier will work with ANY standard Ether net card, it is simply a way to make a device that has no wireless network option into a wireless device. This is the $130 option that you can ADD to an existing network card on on our systems that don't offer wireless. Now on the 1224-1232, 1060-75, 2090-2105, 5510NF systems there is a wireless 802.11B or IEE1394 option (you can't have both) that you can by to add to your...

If you use a print server through the parallel port, you will lose all of your network functionality (smartnet, scanning and the such). Most companies that are still on token ring have some sort of provision for ethernet devices, I would check for that as well.

I have NEVER had good luck getting any machine to staple or punch using RPCS unless I am using it with SmartNet for Client using a SmartNet Port (Not a Standard TCP/IP Port). With PCL, it seems that I can get any machine to staple etc using standard TCP/IP Printing. There's my 2 cents worth! Graham

What I have seen when using SDM/SNM is that after setting the driver to print through the SDM/SNM port, in the printer properties, you go to the accessories tab and click on the "Update Now" button, this should install all accessories to the driver and set up the paper trays.

Re: Stapling on the 2022?

Ronda Ricco (Guest) ·
If you use Savin, Gestetner or Lanier RPCS drivers on a Ricoh device the accessories/paper trays will not be automatically configured even with a SmartNet port. The problem is in the 'Plug And Play" name in the SP Mode. If it is Ricoh in 'Plug And Play Name" and the driver is Savin it will not communicate correctly with the driver.

SNMP connection between the Client PC and Server PC is blocked. Just turn off the firewall on the server PC, or have the IT guy allow an exception for port 161. You can still print from the Client PC, even if you get the SNMP message, just can't be certain whether the plotter is on line and ready.

Try - Control Panel - Admin Tools - Services - SNMP Service Do a manual stop, then start. If all seems OK with the SNMP service, then it's typically something else blocking it between the client and server PC. I.e; anti-virus, other network service or rule that blocks port 161

A wireless bridge converts, or "bridges", a wired ethernet appliance to wireless. D-Link 802.11g Wireless Bridge for $99.99 from Tiger Direct can give you faster commumication speed than the 802.11b Ricoh interface ... and because the connection is made through the RJ45 port on the NIC, all functions should be available. So as you said the RJ45 port on the NIC (the plug where the ethernet gets plugged in usally) you install this "bridge" from linksys or tiger direct for under $100.00 rather than using the RICOH version and save $200.00. My questions is, you mentioned you should maintain same functionality. That is a concern for me. If I take this to my technology department and then to service, I need...

The SmartNet would not work in this case because the wireless print server connected through the parallel port. But when the rest call in with a problem, my first question will be, "have you just upgraded your XP installation with SP2?" Do you want it fixed or do you want me to come out @ $75.00/Hr.

The following protocols, services, and port numbers are used between ScanRouter server and I/O device. TCP/IP Protocol FTP Port: 3670 (As control port) FTP Port: 1024-65535 random (As data port) HTTP Port: 80 (For XML data) SNMP Port: 161 (For I/O device settings) When browsing the I/O device from ScanRouter Delivery Server, HTTP and SNMP are used. For firewall purposes, ports 80, 161, and 3670 need to be open. Random port numbers normally go through firewalls without any issues.
