Re: A Few Copier Vignettes from the Late Eighties & Nineties
Art, You and I are from similar professional backgrounds and times. We started in 1980 selling Sharp and Juki typewriters. Everything sold near MSRP. Then the fax boom came and we caught that wave perfectly. We sold Ricoh thermal faxes for full list ($2995.00). The only issue was cash flow; we sold them faster than we could order and purchase them. Copier Maintenance agreements went from .022 up to .035 and did not include drums, developer, toner, fuser rollers or lamps! Also, like your...

Re: Leasing Company Copiers are Underwater
Found out today, that Assurant does cover floods, I actually got a document from them about their services and I'll post it here later. Seems like most BOP policies will not cover floods, and Assurant will. However this leads to another issue, when leasing companies ask for "proof of insurance" and get a copy of the rider, do they not check to see if their equipment is covered in case of flood? If they miss this and do not charge for insurance is it then their loss and not the lessee? Some...

Re: Leasing Company Copiers are Underwater
I'm in the same boat. I now think that taking the leasing company's insurance is the best option for the customer. My customers with leasing company coverage have had a delay of a few weeks but next week I will deliver the first unit that was covered. Took a while but its a done deal. Another customer with their own insurance immediately got new gear right away. They were dead in the water without equipment so they did a new lease. I put on my sales order clearly that it was the customer's...

I'm a fan of making the prize significant enough that people really get competitive with it. Perhaps a weekend retreat to somewhere on the Eastern Shore of MD with a significant other with a per diem & a good seafood dinner paid for by the company. Just the first thing that comes to mind having eaten some incredible lobster in MD.

I was just reading the thread in "Announcments" about the roll out of XP SP2. I hadnt considered the security changes that would affect our current installations. All of the mavens are recommending a gradual upgrade to SP2, and I am sure that if the customer has an IT staff, they will be able to handle it. But when the rest call in with a problem, my first question will be, "have you just upgraded your XP installation with SP2?" Do you want it fixed or do you want me to come out @ $75.00/Hr.

Canon C356iF-C256iF II Spec Check Review
It's not often that I'm intrigued by a competitors color MFP. It was two or three weeks ago when a prospect asked, "what do you know about the Canon C356iF?". Well, I was kind of embarrassed because I knew nothing about that Canon device. The only thing I could mutter out was that I would have to do some research and get back to them (not good). It's not like me to not know about my competitors devices, thus I started my quest to know as much as I can about the Canon C356iF. I'm not going to...

Toshiba's next 5-year plan to feature $1.8bn in cost cuts
TOKYO -- Toshiba targets 200 billion yen ($1.77 billion) in cost cuts over the next three years and plans to liquidate a risky U.K. nuclear venture, part of an effort to shore up its finances as it steps up investment in potential new growth engines, Nikkei has learned. These measures will be included in a five-year management plan starting fiscal 2019 to be released on Thursday -- the Japanese conglomerate's first since emerging from a crisis brought on by accounting scandals and massive...

Yes, I went to the office today. Yes, traffic was light when it's normally jammed. Cell phone disruptions were common today with many "failed calls" in or out. Rumor verified w/email from HQ. Also all Non-Sales will be asked to take unpaid five-day furlough. Not verified but heard reliably is RIF of 25% Production Print Sales Reps and 500 Gen'l Line Salesforce. This probably just make the IKON/Ricoh marriage easier although it also feed the ranks of Canon and dealers if they are looking at quality rather than quantity to shore-up their ranks.

How does everyone feel about this? The beefed up scanner, added finishing options, and scan accelerator kit seem like valuable additions considering the $450 higher MSRPs than the C652/552, especially since the mark-up will be lower on the street. I can see the value of the new scanner(especially in certain environments), but do you feel like 150opm scanning is a highly demanded feature or was the C652's previous 45opm speed enough? Also, this press release suggests that the C652/552 are...

It had been happening to Ricoh as well. Mainly due to the labor disputes at the Port in Los Angeles. It is now resolved but boats were sitting off shore unable to unload for 30-45 days becuase the labor group was not working 24 hours a day like normal. They went on what was like a strike and only worked 8 hour days. I am still having issues getting some Canon machines and toner.

Re: Delays in Shipping of Equipment
I just spoke to a buddy if mine who owns a company that trucks the containers from the ships to the destinations. He told me that what we are hearing from Ricoh about the back orders is 150% true. He said there are ships anchored off shore who are having to wait 15-25 days to unload cargo because of some dispute with the labor union that has everything at a standstill until arbitration works it all out. He did tell me you won't find much in the news about it and that it has not been covered...
