John, The PrintCopy Tool compares pretty favorably to Plotworks. I attached two documents to this post. The Product Support Guide lists differences between the two products. The PowerPoint has screen shots of all the settings in PrintCopy Tool. I hope this helps.

Did Panasonic make their A3 MFPs for anyone else? Were they ever sold under a non-Panasonic label? The color units have a "Fuji" look to them and earlier A3 color units were also sold as Xerox WorkCenters and were from Fuji.

We sold two copiers recently to a Window & Door Manufacturer. One of the copiers had 4k clicks on it in less than a week so we thought we would have a good revenue stream. I have been thinking about these Label printers so I asked the client about how they use the ones that they already have. I was floored when the client told me that they plan to spend $100k this year on labels alone.

Re: Does any National Copier Vendor still have their own in house leasing service?

Canon has Canon Financial Services - which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon. This is a true captive program with Canon financial servicing the majority of the leases they originate Ricoh - Most of Ricoh's leases are sold to 3rd party leasing companies (GE, DLL, CIT, Wells) on a private label basis. Ricoh does have Ricoh Financial Services which is a true captive, but it only takes a small portion (Major Accounts) of the leases that are originated by Ricoh Ikon - they utilize Ikon...

I think the local dealers biggest advantage against the National vendors is flexibility. Dealers naturally have much shorter chains of command due to having far less employees. Therefore, dealers can make quicker decisions. The National Vendors are always going to have the advantage of price and a lesser concern for profitability. If you cant beat them on price, thow in some change-ups on them. 1.Free Pro Services 2 Free HDD Decommissioning 3.Copy Blocks 4. Throw a "bonus" Office Chair,...

This will be a tough battle to prove without a sample file. I would educate the customer and understand the stock they are using and the application that created the file. What driver are they using? I would have them make sure each person is using the same stock. If the customer does not provide a stock for you...then make sure you use Hammermil, 98 semi-gloss to make the color pop. I would if possible invite the customer to the showroom and show them how easy it would be to produce the...

I don't think there is a way to do this. I remember thinking it was possible and then having to print all of the files off the old machine & scan/label them for the customer. It was a doctor's office that stored all of their paperwork in their Document Server. Biggest beating ever!

Art, The Brochure saya 14 - 80lb cover (52 - 220g/m2) in the draws (which means you can duplex them automatically. And up to 300g/m2 in the Bypass which means it would require a manual (flip) to duplex them.I prefer to go by the g/m2 off of the paper packages label because 100 lb Index is much lighter than 100 lb cover. WEEKEND MFP INDUSTRY NOTES 8-5-07 The following is a quick review of copier/MFP industry news from industry publications. - The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that it is legal for manufacturers to create a mandatory minimum selling price for their product. The case was decided regarding a store that sold women’s clothing, that ran afoul of the clothing manufacturer’s rules. Unknown if any copier manufacturers will adopt this policy. - A group in Australia at Queensland University, is claiming that...

We have a half dozen or so in the field, no complaints here, I did watch a customer send a print job of a 100 page booklet and there was no pause. Is this just happening with copies? If so, it could be a memory issue. The machine that I spoke about had the memory upgrade installed before we put it in the field. That may be the issue. Let me know what you come up with.

The trouble with using user tools, is that it's a resettable counter, and thus would not be good to use, as it can be reset! Tech Sp mode under CopyData keeps ongoing, but is not customer accessible. Mechanical counters are inside front cover, to the left of the drum, covered by a plastic label type thing. Suggest that that label is pulled off on set-up, to allow counter readings. Cheers.

Re: Hot Spot Printers

JasonR ·
SO, the way the Hotspot printers work (as I understand it) is, you plug them in and give them internet access and there is a label on the front with the printers email address. You email your document to the printer and it prints. You can optionally require that the submitter pay a fee via credit card (provider takes a cut of that)before it prints. So, the service fees for this would cover the email address, not an IP as the printer is sitting on your network, presumably behind firewalls, etc.

I would focus on the cost per page first. Find out of the customer is going to take a maintenance agreement. You may have win there. If no maintenance agreement is needed I would then focus on the consumables costs of the A4 device. Such as cost per page for toner, cost per page for drum (imaging) and cost per page for the fuser kit. I found the fuser maintenance kit on CDW for $269.99, however, there is no yield stated. I also found another fuser kit for $356 and the yield is 200K which...

Art - I feel your pain! In a letter to a Senior VP at Konica, my boss wrote that selling the Konica 8050 to IKON, and allowing them to re-label, was the biggest sellout in the history of the copier industry. I guess that Konica isn't the only "sellout" when it comes to their products. I hope for all our sake that the "X" dealer doesn't get involved because it's pretty easy to sell against them in the WF arena right now. Good luck

I have been waiting for this for years. I thought of this 5 years ago. But even though the are a lot of pros to the system there are also a lot of cons. You will need to run paper designed for inkjets that costs more because on plain paper the ink runs an you get jagged edges on you print. Ink prints do not have any shine at all, you will have to use gloss paper to get any type of shine on the print. The print heads will not last forever, Canon has the lifetime printheads on their inkjet...

Art, Great article I always used the purpose question when hiring. Ask the candidate what their purpose is, what would drive their core being to do what every it takes as long as it's legal, moral, and ethical to succeed in the career of sales? When people have the conviction for their purpose they will have the strength needed when the world of circumstances attempts to stop their momentum.

This is a tough business and finding young blood who are willing to gut it out is HARD. I've been in this industry for 5 years now and every year the thought of quitting enters my mind. The reasoning to stick around has to be more than just about money. For me, lasting 10 years in copier sales is the equivalent to getting my "black belt" in "the art of selling." I already have the confidence to feel like I can do anything -- real estate, start my own business, etc... I've gone through the...
