Re: Print Copy Tool versus Plotworks
John, The PrintCopy Tool compares pretty favorably to Plotworks. I attached two documents to this post. The Product Support Guide lists differences between the two products. The PowerPoint has screen shots of all the settings in PrintCopy Tool. I hope this helps.

Re: Those Magnificent Men and Their Copy Machines
Almost three years ago, I wrote the above blog. I want to do a 2015 version. Please either post here or go to the forums and write a short paragraph about how your company is giving back to the community so that we can post the 2015 version of "Those Magnificent Men (Women) and Their Copy Machines". It would be great to see how we all contribute. Please post below. I re-posted the older version on the blog tonight also. Here is the link for the forums.

Re: Canon's new 75PPM A4 MFP series
This looks like it is just the Canon version of the HP engine they OEM for them so yes I would expect to see a colour one HP deployed thousands of M630’s (predecessor) at one of my customers doing big volumes - pretty robust Will be interesting to see how much longer the HP relationship with canon goes on..

Re: MPS and Linux HELP!
So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

Re: NEED HELP QUICK --- SINKING SHIP
Why don't you contact Ratio directly to ask for help with this solution. Are you using an external controller or the embedded version? If you are using the external controller, Ratio is very good at helping on this type of situation.

Re: NEED HELP QUICK --- SINKING SHIP
Jason -- no the goal it to print a version of an 11 x 17 drawing and scale down to a letter size document. My PCL and PS3 driver is not reading the lines on the drawing as an image. I posted for a colleague so who just joined so I am not sure of the file format, nor am I familiar w/ this application. 2nd part yes -- they could do that -- that was a quick work around that we did - but was unhappy with the amount of clicks that it had to go through. They have a CANON that does it no problem.

Not true. But car dealers routinely "train" using whatever version of the truth they think will make a sale.

Re: Sharp to Introduce Five New Copier/Printer Models, Including a Digital Full-Color MFP
Thanks for the heads up, I dont think these models will be introduced in the US though, I hope I'm wrong, the A4 models just introduced, MX-C401SC and MX-B401SC are really feature rich and impressive in the way you can feed plastic ID cards through the feeder and have both sides scanned. Also the fact that the B&W version has a 25% less CPC cost will make these units very hard to beat!

Re: New Ricoh W3601 Prelim Brochure!!!
You are exactly correct, loser will be an understatment. We are already behind the 8 ball on wf technology and bringing this version with color scan, why bother, if they don't bring the pricing in line, there are very few opportunites out there. It's embarrassing when you compete against the other manufacturers with lower price product with more advanced features.

Re: Lexmark Dealer MFPs vs IT Channel MFPs
Yes, I meant cartridges for non-BSD models. You are also correct regarding the XS models compared to the X. They are completely identical in every sense, aside from the fact that the BSD models are only available in the base configuration. For example, the Lexmark X464de is the same as the X463de with a fax board added. To sell the BSD version (XS463de) with a fax, you would have to add the fax versus ordering a pre-configured model.

RATIO US is now OK'd to sell PLOTBASE software upgrades for all the Wide Format Models (470,240,480,2400/3600, 5100/7140) in addition to external controllers for those models as well. New website is www.ratio.US PLOTBASE 3.7.3 provides up to date PDF processing, full Windows 7 (server & client) OS support and other updated drivers. Same for PLOTBASE 5.5.3 which updates the MP W5100/7140 version.

Re: New Sharp Smart Phone MFP User Interface
Yah but unfortunately its a...SHARP! Let them "hammer out" all the issues it will have, then everyone else will follow. Word from the Sharp DSM in Oregon is the screen locked up a lot during their two demo's and also had some glitches in scanning functions. BUT someone has to start the new trend and I'm sure by firmware version 30.1 it will be incredible! Nothing against you personally montecore

Re: Ricoh Ends Relationship with Ratio
New update on this one. Ricoh will be continuing support on existing plot bases up to the latest Ricoh version. However, there is a new player. Ratio US is starting up again. They are releasing new product to support the new PDFs from Adobe and update the Plot Base software. However, this will not be done in connection with Ricoh. Ratio US will have it's own versions and they are no longer supported by Ricoh.

Re: MFP Scan to Xerox Docushare
eCopy SSOP has a Docushare connector that is pretty slick. And eCopy SSOP works with many MFDs. You can use an embedded version of eCopy SSOP which connects to a eCopy SSOP manager running on a PC, or you can have an eCopy stand alone ScanStation that connects via a network TWAIN interface and stands next to the MFD. You will need the eCopy Docushare connector. Hope this helps!

Actually, I think you were clear and Art answered for Ricoh, the one he knew about. Art's answer was complete for Ricoh, so I'll answer for Canon: The Canon c6010vp and c7010vp 60 and 70ppm, with no slow down for heavy stock. You can also get them in the "non-VP" version which slows down for heavy stock. Now you just need answers for Xerox and KM.

Well written blog, however I as agree with many of the points in the blog. For example: 1. Selling is not dead; it has changed and will continue to change. As the author finally arrives at near the end “old selling” is dead. As buyers change, great sales people have to change with them. Selling is alive and well, it has just changed. 2. Buyer communities did not kill selling. If anything, they can help it. If your company is doing a good job and made a name for itself then the buyer...

Re: PaperCut
Old Glory, Not sure how long the MF version has been in play. I've only been back in the industry since January and my new dealership already had some PaperCut installations when I arrived. The software does have the behavior modification pop-ups you are referring to, and I'm told specialized scripts can be easily written to force almost any behavior. For instance, during a WebEx last week my PaperCut account rep told my client of a PaperCut installation in which the user set up a rule that...

Re: PaperCut
You would be correct in the difference from the Papercut NG version vs. the MF version. We have sold about a dozen variations and it is a great product that makes a lot of sense. We have implemented it with MPS and MF solutions and it helps us keep the competition out. It's also great with swipe cards (HID/Kastle, etc...). Good luck.

Re: Can the new MP 2852 (& 2352,3352) Print from a Macbook without Postscript?
Macs have been able to print without PostScript since at least 2001, CUPS has full PCL support for example. The limitation is the "afterthought" print drivers the MFP industry provides for Macs. Usually something cobbled together and years behind in version support. Admittedly, Macs are only 10-12% of the market, but they are a strong majority of sales over $1k. MFP makers are really missing out, it's typically decision makers they are slighting with feeble support. Printer makers have it...

On the Lexmark XS658dfe you referenced, it cannot be ordered without a finisher. There is a 2nd pre-configured model (XS658dme) that delivers with a 4-bin mailbox, but I doubt many of those are sold. On the other hand, Ricoh's new SP5200 and their MP C300/C400 series have one version sold without a finisher (cannot be added later) and one that is pre-configured with a finisher. Of the Ricoh A4 units I have sold, I would say the majority of them have been the model with the finisher with the...

Re: Ricoh Printers & MICR Toner?
In the HP World, the same ctg can be filled with MICR toner or standard toner & the machine will print accordingly. So just filling the same ctg with MICR or Non MICR toner is the only difference. But finding a MICR version toner for the Ricoh printer ctg you want will be the challenge. One of the large ctg remanufacturers would be the best place to look.

Windows 8 uses SMB version 3, most devices are built on SMB version 1 and 2. Many copier vendors do not have a solution for this yet. Both Ricoh and Toshiba are not scheduled for a solution until Jan 2013. Ricoh Problem Bulletin #TS121417 dated Oct 2012 confirms the same.
