Re: A Couple of True & Not So True Humerous Copier Incidents

Kyocera Guy ·
On a cold call I stopped in at a doctors office. The Office Manager was so glad to see me. She said that she was having fax issues and every time they received a fax it jammed. I told her I wasn't a tech but I would take a look. She escorted me to the fax and I looked down to see some questionably cheap paper. I simply asked if she had tried changing paper. She said "I don't have any control of the paper the hospital sends when they fax me." OooooK. She obviously didn't understand the...

Another route you can take with these discontinued options is to order the parts through service. For instance the product code for this one is B756 so if you were to go to rfg-esource and search for the product code there is a parts book for the copy tray option and you (service) can order the parts. I have needed to do this with things like fax options.

Art, You and I are from similar professional backgrounds and times. We started in 1980 selling Sharp and Juki typewriters. Everything sold near MSRP. Then the fax boom came and we caught that wave perfectly. We sold Ricoh thermal faxes for full list ($2995.00). The only issue was cash flow; we sold them faster than we could order and purchase them. They actually did away with offering spf models and the fax option just gets added to the base model, which includes s/p. GIntel's and mmelrod's comments regarding the changes are pretty much the case. Pricing is pretty much the same as the prior models configured as sp models. Yes, the same will hold true for the 40/50 series, not sure how soon to launch though. Attached is the SIG that details all 4 units.

Yes, I meant cartridges for non-BSD models. You are also correct regarding the XS models compared to the X. They are completely identical in every sense, aside from the fact that the BSD models are only available in the base configuration. For example, the Lexmark X464de is the same as the X463de with a fax board added. To sell the BSD version (XS463de) with a fax, you would have to add the fax versus ordering a pre-configured model.

The MP1515, 161, 171 are incredible engines, they just run and run without a hicup, I have a few of these that are running 3-5K every month and one was just traded in that had over 200K on the meter. It's not a money maker for the sales person, however it fills the gap when you are replacing a fleet and need a few lv devices that can print, scan, copy and fax. Without limits? If you sold a 171 and the customer had 50 workstations, you would install the print driver (and then the fax driver) on every one of them? My suggestion is to incorporate a reasonable limit to the installs. The customer needs to learn how to install the driver anyway since I doubt you would come back out in six months to install a driver on their new PC. Five workstations per device seems to work well. That's enough to make sure everything is working and train the customer...
