Thank you Carl. We've had to reschedule the meeting. I didn't realize how ancient it was until I pulled a buyers lab report on it! I'll have more after I meet with the guy next week.

Re: MPS and Linux HELP!
So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

Re: A Few Copier Vignettes from the Late Eighties & Nineties
Art, You and I are from similar professional backgrounds and times. We started in 1980 selling Sharp and Juki typewriters. Everything sold near MSRP. Then the fax boom came and we caught that wave perfectly. We sold Ricoh thermal faxes for full list ($2995.00). The only issue was cash flow; we sold them faster than we could order and purchase them. Copier Maintenance agreements went from .022 up to .035 and did not include drums, developer, toner, fuser rollers or lamps! Also, like your...

Yup we have the same issues with cash flow. It was a great problem to have. The Hunt for Red October was a great book, even found the movie awesome too! Ty for the comment, we should connect for lunch one day

When I've been up there it's actually been quite warm most of the spring & summer, but you're right in the fact that most folks up there are total hicks. Random piece of baseball trivia: Lefty Grove was born & raised in Lonoconing, MD.

Re: How will the earth quake in Japan affect...
Most of the copiers we sell are assembled in Europe, but the parts come from China, Japan etc. So if the quake is going to have an impact on our sale then it probably won’t happen until (maybe) this summer... MP C toner is produced in Japan and bottled in US (according to the package) That could be an issue if the toner factories are affected

Re: Tohoku Earthquake Wreaks Havoc on Printer Industry Supply Chain
This was an article from the NY times over the weekend! SHIBATA-MACHI, Japan — When the ground shook violently on the afternoon of March 11, the ceiling collapsed in part of the huge Ricoh copier factory here, exposing the vents and wires above. The offices at the Ricoh plant near Sendai are still in disrepair; workers have focused on restoring the factory and production. The ceiling is still not fixed. But employees are back at their posts, working under temporary lighting and wearing hard...

Re: Would You Loan this company Money?
The AEC market is in the dumps, however more and more of my clients are opting to buy the 240W's and 2400W's from the leasing company rather than spend for a 6ppm system!! Ricoh will be introducing a gel plotter in the summer, and oh my, the gelsprinters were the worst and I hope these are very different. The piezo print head is not geared for low volume users.

Re: Custom Page coverage meter
The new series of Kyocera colour MFP's that was introduced last summer provides the means to set three tiers of counter for colour based upon the coverage of colour on the page. This permits setting three price levels based upon the amount of colour coverage. The settings can be adjusted by the dealer to fit their price model. It means you don't have to pay a full colour page price when you print a small colour item, say a logo, if the contract is set up this way. We just won a large...

Re: Over Holding On MFP Lease Costs Unnecessary Dollars
I think front line service techs would like nothing more than to get the "old junk" out of the field. It is probably the number crunchers that aren't willing to shut these people off because of the lost revenue. Last summer all the sales reps were given a list of old equipment still on contract and told to inform the customer that their agreements would soon be cancelled which we did. Then the company decided to look at the bottom line and recanted. Now us salereps all look like smucks just...

I don't know what you guys are talking about. We have tons of both 850's 1050's and 1085's (at least 50 from within my branch location) in the field. Mostly in schools (which I personally think is the worst environment to place a copier-due to too many hands on the machine by teachers who can care less about do's and don'ts.). But they quite often run PM to PM without any calls. And I've found that the majority of "in between calls" are due to user mishandling and abuse. Most of the...

Re: Gas Price Check
The Theory in general is that the large U.S. Companies sacrifice their profits (which can be determined by looking at the price of a barrel of crude vs. the price of a gallon of gas) around elections when they are wanting the existing party to stay in power. The price of crude may also fall some, but the amount that the price of gas at the pump drops is significantly higher than can be attributed to the slight decline in crude. As far as it being "near the election" I'd say it is very near...

First, that was pretty insulting. Second, let me clear up my person beliefs on this subject. I believe that gas prices fall around the time of an election. That's it. As far as the why and how of it, I don't know and I provided that information in response to your question. I think some of the confusion you have is in finding a motive for a price drop. The motive is that higher prices mean more anger at the incumbent. The incumbents in the elections we are looking at are the Republicans...

Just so you know, yes, we really ran out of gas here in Nashville here's a quick summary of what happened. During the summer months Nashville stations have to provide a cleaner burning type of fuel, the date for that requirement to end was approaching and stations were letting their inventory of the higher priced fuel dwindle so they could replace it with the cheaper fuel. When hurricane Ike hit, some refineries were shut down, some lost power and I hear a few were actually damaged. Since...

We are dual-line Ricoh and Konica; so I've heard a lot from Konica about their "Simitri" polyermized toner. I dismissed it as marketing hype..... ...but then last summer I attended the American Printer magazine's Variables conference. Re: What does your Company do when equpiment comes in Damaged
We haven't had much problem with damage lately, but I will tell our warehouse to keep an eye out. Are you referring to visible damage to the box or damage discovered out of the box? We're told to accept but immediately document damage on the shipper's paperwork, and file claim with carrier. I believe the rationale is that once it leaves Ricoh's loading dock, the responsibility for the product lies with the carrier. Check and see if it's the same carrier for all your damaged shipments; and if...

HP said Samsung’s printing business brought in $1.8 billion in sales for its fiscal 2015. This number is just a fraction of HP’s overall...
