Re: What's it Like at Your Dealership?
I guess I will add some. Our dealership has not furloughed anyone at this point in time. Of course all sales and admin are working remote. We've had a few orders trickling in and my hat goes off to those that have been able to secure those orders.

Re: Gas Price Check
The Theory in general is that the large U.S. Companies sacrifice their profits (which can be determined by looking at the price of a barrel of crude vs. the price of a gallon of gas) around elections when they are wanting the existing party to stay in power. The price of crude may also fall some, but the amount that the price of gas at the pump drops is significantly higher than can be attributed to the slight decline in crude. As far as it being "near the election" I'd say it is very near...

Re: shady salesman
Stories like this burn my britches too. I think of all the times our tech support has stepped to the plate when I, wearing my sales hat, painted myself into a tech corner. The contribution value of competent and reliable tech support can not be over-emphasized and never taken for granted. Too many sales reps rely on tech support to close a deal for them, and simply walk away. Not only is it unethical, it is just plain dumb to alienate technical support. Thank you for sharing this story,...

Re: Plotting in Black and White vs. Grey Scale
Well, Since I'm alone on this one I'll answer my own question in case anyone else does come across this. Apparently the 2 shades in vector graphics under the plotter settings is the fix. For the life of me couldn't figure out what the "black and white" button does because it didn't change a thing? Tip my hat to Ratio for making things easy!

Ricoh MFPs use 2 bit depth technology with 4 shades per color, vs. Konica's 8 bit depth with 256 shades per color. The Konica color engine (which came from the Minolta side, noted for their color technology) handles color better because it is built to. (What I see when I look at print samples of the same photo: the Konica color looks crisper and more "full bodied"; the Ricoh color looks blotchier and pixelated.) If you have a exacting graphics or marketing client, you can't just skate by.

Re: Inbound Marketing For Sales Reps (and Sales Vets)
Hey Greg, Absolutely. My only rebuttal is that the word content is so subjective. Do you write lengthy, 1000+ word articles, or do you focus on writing shorter articles you can post 2-3 times per day? For SEO purposes, either can boost your ranking in Google. The golden rule of SEO is that Google rewards good, original content. Black hat SEO will boost your rankings in the short term, but eventually Google's algorithms will catch on and punish your ranking. On the flip side of content,...

This Week in the Copier Industry 10 Years Ago (Second Week of February 2010)
Some additional tidbits from the show I was at for the last three days. I learned along time ago that in order to be successful at these types of events that you need to engage with people when they walk by your booth. You need to greet everyone that walks by and then ask them a question. The question I asked the most is where they were from, after getting a response I would then ask if they have a plotter or ask if they've ever seen a white board before. The questions sparked conversations...

COVID19 "Remote Working" Day Twenty-Two of Sales
Ah day twenty-two which marks a full selling month of working remote. No driving, no buying coffee, no traffic, no rude drivers, no tolls, no gas and not many buyers was the plot of month one. Wow, could I really still be working remote for another month? Many times when I'm in the office and cutting it up with new reps I'll pose this question to them, "what type of day is it today?". Then I wait and wait and finally I'm told it's rainy, sunny, warm or cold. I then tell them the correct...

COVID19 "Remote Working" Day Twenty-Three of Sales
There was some good news today in that the Feds released their plans for States to get back to work in a three phase operation. Seems each State will have different time lines depending if they meet the conditions that were set forth today. New Jersey is on lock down until the 15th of May. Could we see some of the restrictions lifted soon? I'm thinking no since we're one of those nanny states. This may be one of my shorter blogs and the reason for that is because I spent 5 of my eight hours...

Re: New Poll, MFPSPI Series from Ricoh
I would prefer that the software -- ANY third-party title-- NOT be bundled with the hardware. My sales reps would prefer to be able to configure the software proposal the way the client needs it instead of having to offer it a certain way because it comes preconfigured that way. And speaking with my Purchasing manager hat on, too many preconfigured options is needlessly confusing (the CL7000/CL7100, for a prime example).

Re: Marketing
I'm interested in how other companies are handling marketing, task like: social media creating mail pieces newsletters etc. Do you have a dedicated full time person to do this? Do you expect the sales reps to also create their own marketing material? Do you have some else wear the marketing hat in addition to other responsibilities? Thanks for any input!
