I have situations like this before, even though the 240W is only six years old, keep in mind they were around for almost 4 years! Ricoh has now listed them as "limited parts" or something to that effect. This is the first item I would tell them about. There has got be advantages moveing to the W3601 for them. Are they scanning if so, are they only scanning as a .tiff. Are they emailing the scans as .tiffs or are they converting to .pdf, if they are converting to .pdf, have they considered...

You can scan to Mailboxes (like Ricoh's document server, but better) and an Advanced Box as well (similar to dropbox). Anything else requires additional software.

Chops Not sure if I can help I haven't sold a system with Plotworks yet, what I can tell you is that I did beat a KIP 7900 without plotworks using the web batch print tool that comes with the system. Are they an incumbent KIP user? If not I would focus on brand of Ricoh, the quality and the ease of use. Geeesh, you ask a great question! I really not sure if there is an answer for that. All of my accounts scan whether it's scan2email or scan2folder. Most are then moving those documents to a place on the server or another pc where they are stored in a windows alpha tree folder structure. When I speak about entering meta data at the copier, so that they can perform a better search, it seems to have turned them off. Many users feel that they can find the documents that they've scanned and don't...

Great Post Art. Xerox have a DropBox app available for their new ConnectKey devices but the user has to buy a scanpack which cover X number of scans and has a 12 month shelf-life. The advantages of having it on the MFD as an App is that any user (e.g. at a college) can log in to their DropBox account and print or scan to / from their own account securely. We've been doing the same as you and circumventing the charge or need for an app by pointing the scan to a DropBox folder on a desktop.

Maybe I did something wrong during setup. Ours in our demo room is incredibly slow. Just to get to the URL for the home screen takes a while. Getting to dropbox app (or any others) and logging in and making selections takes so long it still looks like this is in development. I must be doing something wrong. Our internet connection is good and I don't know why the MFP is so slow. Do I need to add something? Memory, GB ethernet?

Art is correct. Like Dropbox or OneDrive, you can scan to a folder in the user directory that is linked to the cloud account. ICE allows you to scan to the cloud without having the PC in the middle and allows users to have access to any cloud account, not just the one on a PC. The workaround described would require the cloud app folder to be installed on the PC therefore any user would need to have a PC with said cloud app running on it.

Re: Here's an interesting question I received about Ricoh scanning
For Windows 8 and Server 2012 you can upgrade the firmware to fix this problem. Another option is to install Dropbox at both locations and have them sync to that folder. This way you scan to the local folder by SMB and with Dropbox it will automatically sync to the other location.

Doesn't MS365 Sharepoint offer a folder that you can scan to for uploading scans? You can scan to Dropbox, Google Drive and Laserfiche on any scanner or MFP simply by setting up a Scan to Folder workflow.

I would say it's the market place that I see, hey, they said that about Ricoh not being able to buy IKON and look what happened, maybe HP just sells the Imaging someone where down the road. The copier manufacturers need to start buying companies that that will give them a revenue stream. I'm of the opinion that manufacturers should start buying companies like dropbox, officedrop and box and then give away the free service with the MFP and then have a premium plan. I've had an iPod touch for awhile, but never had the chance to play around with it. Over the last week or so, I've been having some fun with all of the different apps and games. I'll have to admit I love some of the games but hate the fact that they give you the opportunity to pay for additional features. Whatever, the game cost .99 cents and I think I dumped $20 bucks or so on upgrades, kinda wish I had that opportunity with PACMAN when I use to sit at the bar for hours dumping quarters...

No mention of price for the basic or premium service, no mention that you need to purchase the optional MFP browser unit. Many people are not aware that you can scan to dropbox from your current MFP and you don't need ICE to do that. I'm not that familiar with some of the other cloud solutions however if they use the same setup as dropbox you can scan to them from your current Ricoh MFP.
