These are all very interesting comments. Not sure if anyone has seen the videos and new interface on the color systems. Watch those videos on youtube and see yes that is a cool interface but is it really practical? From talking with others this is a very confusing non-friendly user interface compared to the previous MX color series. I think this is going to hurt this color series in the long run. The real challenge comes when there are MX units in an account then add this Aries series. Or...

I'm now out of the biz, retired, but the Sales Information Guides available on-line have a matrix in the back that shows compatibility of accessories. Also that are detailed specs on each accessory) so that you can make sure the customers needs can be met with your offering. As I recall there are significant limitations with the various booklet makers. Also remember that booklet makers fold 11x17 (12x18's) and there are click charges to consider. From: Ted Sent: 11/22/2002 6:28 AM I'm sure it would not have been difficult for Ricoh to put the same features, i.e. all the user stamp functions and booklet making mode on the 3800CMF. However, they still need a reason for us to sell the B (&W) 35cpm machines. Once they get the cost of the black toner cost down, the 35cpm, in my opinion, will become obsolete. You can easily cost justify the 3800CMF vs the AF1035 with all the extra you get. Just the cost of the Black is too high right now.

From: Ted Sent: 9/19/2002 9:18 AM I found with the Church, when they tried to print 750 Monthly Newsletters, it sent the job 750 times. This was 12 pages being put into a booklet mode and printed. The first time they did it it took about 7 hours. We figured out that you have to put the number of copies inside the properties box, not on the first print screen that pops up when you select print. If you do it on the first screen, the computer sends the job the number of times you selected. If...

And it is an additional option for the Saddle Stitch Finisher (That finisher has a $10,500 List and the folder has a $5700 list). Compare that to a $5200 list on our SR860 and if you want to get really carried away the list on the SR85 Booklet Maker is only $9750 and will be available for the 2090,2105 soon. (Though I don't think it can "Z" fold. Another consideration is that you can buy a folding unit that will do ALL of your folding off line for less than $3000.00. That's my 2 cents worth!

I didn't check the spec's, but from what I have experienced it does not slow down the speed of the copier. But I have had some customers complain that it cannot Z fold to the edge on the last fold. Canon designed it to leave a 6mm gap for some reason and it cannot be adjusted to compensate. Most companies that have interest in using the Z fold to insert ledger documents into letter spec books are used to have a "clean" edge fold. Also, the Z fold is only an option if used in conjunction with...

Art: The 8031 does have the IP711 Print controller option along with the Fiery X3e option. Prints up to 140lb index, 12x18 full bleed, scan-to-e:mail, Tiff, Jpeg and Pdf scanning. The most impressive items is the quality and the booklet making finisher w/saddle stitch(2-3 hole punch also!) My dealership doesn't have any CL7000CMF's in stock yet, so I can't really compare. Personally, the 8031 has much better quality than the 3800CMF, but hasn't been around long enough to test reliability!

Since you're getting folded output, I assume you have the correct finisher, but just for the record, the booklet finisher is the SR3020 for the MP C4500 SPF. If you choose 2 center staples in the driver and the output is on a single sheet, you will get folded, but unstapled documents. This is the only way to get folded without stapling. It should be impossible to get multiple pages to fold without stapling.

I believe the full lineup of color MFP's can run legal booklets, as long as you can add a booklet finisher to them. I remember that a few years ago this was a big selling point at Monster Mayhem, because only Ricoh manufactured machines could run Legal booklets, whereas the others had to run Ledger.

Capabilities: Clarification on paper sizes that can be folded & stapled with the new booklet finisher. The Booklet Finisher can fold & staple 8.5 x 11 and 11 x 17 paper for all copy and print jobs. 8.5 x 14 CANNOT be folded & stapled. The Booklet Finisher will fold (not staple) only 1 sheet of paper.
