Monte I don't believe you are paranoid! The ecommerce is a real threat for sales peeps. In order to over come that we as sales peeps will need to wear additional hats to better serve out clients. Those as a trusted adviser, become more knowledgeable with cloud services, IT services, MSP, MSSP. It's my belief that we will evolve from just print to be able to consult on all aspects of business office. I would love to hear from others on this as well, this is a great subject for discussion.

1). The new e4508LP uses the heat of the fuser to decolorize the blue toner to clear. The seperate RD30 erasing device is still available and presents a few advantages. 2). There is an all inclusive cpc charge for the Erasable Blue toner. The cost per copy analysis suggests that if on a 60 month lease you do not expect the the customer to erase more than 210,000 pages (3,500 pages per month) you can forget the parts cost and charge the same cpc as for Black at around $0.010 per page with a decent profit. There is no charge to erase pages. A 3rd paper drawer would probably be useful. Letter/ Legal/ Erasable. The number of erased pages are recorded and displayed in the useful Paper Re-use Report which describes sheets of paper saved, CO2 saved and money saved. The Eco-MFP can erase pages at 17.5 sheets per minute.

So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

I just had a customer ask me more about collaborating files, he's sick and tired of zipping files and the emailing back and forth and can't keep track of the revisions to the documents. Other than this customer, we have many customers with sharepoint, plus we consult and install sharepoint. I beleive we're just starting to see the tip of the iceberg!

24dude: A proposal written on in a "word" document or a piece of paper is worthless. Have the customer get everything in writing on a sales contract and or lease. Once you read the fine print, you will see that there are safe guards that are put in place for toner yields on cost per page, along additional money to connect additional pc's and in my area they have a fuel surcharge. Another thing all of these new machines including the 6502 and 8100 have is an insanely fast ADF, 120 sheets per minute or 240 images per minute duplex. Everyone that sees these comments how fast the ADF is.

same here, equally as impressive is that it will scan to USB just as fast. Customer wanted to take the scanned files back to the office after the demo to make sure they were searchable and check the quality

Let's not lose track of Jason's statement that most salesreps do not consult and customer's don't know who they are going to get from a dealership. We are all in agreement (including Jason) that the consultative approach is best but we are a minority in our business. Most reps do not, can not and will not do what it takes to be a specialist worthy of extra compensation.

Ok, I was told today that there is no MSRP for the toner, however I was able to get dealer cost and confirmation that the stated yield is 21,500 pages. I'm going to double the price for the MSRP, thus the cost would or should be in the area of $187 per cartridge. Which means based on 5% coverage the cost per page for toner only is .00869 I also needed to do some research on paper cost. I'm going figure in 35.00 per case since the erasable system should be placed in colleges, universities,...

What's "hybrid" about them? What am I missing. I sold Canon and Ricoh MFP's for quite a while and this seems like just natural replacements for previous EOL systems. I've seen many customers back away from DMS due to lack of knowledge, lack of talent, lack of funds and lack of desire to have someone in the office to manage the program. Most smaller companies do not have an IT staff so they outsource. Why not rent the SaaS DMS software to the customer on yearly basis and then manage the uploads of scanned documents for them? Caveat - Consult your tax advisor. But if I "won" one but had to buy it myself and funds were included in my "wages" (thus taxed on W-2)it would automatically become an employee business expense (IRS form 2106) since it was not provided by my employer. I am not a tax advisor but in 32 years selling I've never been questioned by IRS.

The are many ways to scan into Open Text Document Server, Alchemy. Here are a few possibilities: 1. Scan your files into a folder structure and use the import utility from alchemy to watch these folders and import the files into the DB. LDAP servers can be a real challenge to set up. Especially when active directory is integrated. I have set up LDAP on multiple manufacturers platforms. Some are easier than others. I have found the most difficult part is #13 getting the correct search criteria which makes all the difference in the world when you try to find names. Please note those are just a just a couple of search strings. Here is a general overview which may not be the same for all platforms....hope this helps.
