Re: Ricoh Dealership in Minnesota will buy.......
The new IKON (Sorry, I mean Ricoh, I keep forgetting) may continue to follow this stratgey with certain key Dealers only, or in very rural markets where Direct (RBS / IKON) do not want to travel for service and support. Metro Sales is Ricoh's largest Dealer (either #1 or #2 in revenue), so this makes sense for them. I can more clearly see that Ricoh will focus on Direct and the IKON executives in charge now (down in Malvern, PA) will try to implement the Services-led business. Yet, smaller...

I checked with our VP of Service and he said the location in Pryor, OK would have to be serviced through IKON or JD Young out of Tulsa. We deal with JD Young frequently but they might be limited to only machines that are not RMAP or DMAP. I would contact both and find out. Re: How many prospects are in your territory?
If that number of businesses includes resturants and retail, you have a tough row to hoe my friend. Really, number of businesses is a poorer way of gauging one territory vs another than number of employees. However, the only "accurate" way is to use the BEQI (pr. becky) Index. That stands for Business Equipment Quota Index which is a market quota index for B&W and Color MFP's, B&W and color printers, and Fax's. It makes it possible to compare different territories b county, metro...

Re: Computer Service
I am in an area with alot of small towns. The largest and closest city is Green Bay WI, 100 miles away. Manufacturers ... like DELL and others ... hire service companies to handle the warranty work, those companies probably have their own tech force in larger Metro areas, but here in the sticks, they will third party it to local companies, probably more cost effective for them.

Re: Pay Plan
I think that service should get to retain some of the "after the sale" business. I also think there are great opportunities to make extra money once systems have been installed. In the NY metro area, prices are very competitive, on going service and maintenance costs plays a big roll in the decesion making part of the business. Dave is right, if the customer has perceived that there is value and the customer will receive some type of benefit, whether it be a monetary ROI or a increased...

Re: Measuring Reps Activity
Normally, I don't track much as long as the numbers are there. A weekly calendar month and 90 day forecast every Monday is all that is required. I've worked metro areas as well as rural and the expected number of calls have varied accordingly but I am big on a weekly, hit no matter what number of calls. I prefer weekly so that it is harder to come up with excuses for failure. My number, in this rural territory is 80 face-to-face calls per week...a number that is doable even if you're sick a...

Czech, I'm right there with you man. Art and Jason, I respect you guys in this industry but sometimes when I read your posts I think you are either living in a different world I'm in, or I need to get out of my area and sell copiers somewhere else (which is probably the latter). In my small location in Central PA (not even a major metro area), it's a constant race to the bottom. I look at the GP and CPCs you guys post, and I would KILL just to make $1,000 - $1,500 GP on deal. I got a guy who...

The Vizient CPC rates only make sense if its a hospital or large fleet takedown in a metro area. For scattered small placements they make no sense. How big is the deal and in what geographical region?

This Week in the Copier Industry 5 Years Ago for the First Week of May 2015
I've been in the copier industry for 40 years. Our industry has always been somewhat recession proof since we provide technology services. With another round of lay-offs in recent weeks it seems our industry is not immune to COVID19. We must be prepared for doing business in a post COVID19 business world. Which means protection of our workplace along with putting safeguards in place to protect our clients while we are in their place of business. These plans need to be developed and finalized...

Back in 2005 I was just 2 years into having a real web site for the copier industry. I started back in 2000 with an message forum with MSN communities. It was really cool because there was no on-line forum where sales people and principals could chat, share ideas, share war stories, share information, share competitive info and the list goes on and on. Twenty years later there is still no site like the Print4Pay Hotel. Did I do something right? We're still the only site that allows members...

Re: Monthly Quotas
I feel you there. Down here in DFW, we have 8 other RFG competitors including RBS & IKON on top of Direct Branches for most manufacturers, and it seems like ever since the Xerox acquisition of Global a few years ago, everything has become a price war since all of the manufacturer's affected by that acquisition started throwing away money to keep from losing MIF. Since then, the price of hardware and service has been slashed to the point of being ridiculous.

I too am in non metro area and there is a lot of oil and gas here that are not headquartered here so I understand why you ask if they are a local company. However, you are making a huge mistake if you assume that just because they are not local, that they have no control or influence over the equipment they get. There are a whole host of companies that don't wish to get involved with the purchasing decisions of their outlying branches, especially if they only have a handful. You still need...

The dealers are now fighting to differentiate themselves & offer something different & this seat licensing seems to be the new buzz. I never heard of it being done in any other geographic...
