Back in August 2010 I was told the following, "Although PPDM does address the PDF/A format, the copiers only support PDF/I for image.... Type f and later copiers will support PPDM without fail, the older copiers are an "iffy" solution as per Ricoh Tech Support." This was in response to the US District Court asking for PDF-A formatting.

Here is the text from the email we got: Dear Dealer Principal Effective January 1, 2012, Ricoh will implement a price increase. Ricoh, Savin and Lanier equipment and accessories will reflect a 5% increase from the current dealer pricing and SRP prices, excluding A4 laser printers and Gel printers which will have no change. All supplies and parts will reflect a 3% increase without exception. This increase is due to the ongoing appreciation of the Japanese Yen. We have been faced with cost...

Toshiba Business Systems, Toshiba Toronto Direct, last Fall was awarded the Thames Valley District School Board for 1,200 copiers. This is believed to be the largest deal awarded in Canada last year. It was a steal from Ricoh and believed to increase Toshiba's Canadian copier market share to approx 15%.

Re: Seperator Pages?

Jim (Guest) ·
Is your customer really sure they want to go there? Keep in mind that EVERY job would be seperated and count a click on the meter. First of all, I'm not sure but I think that the seperator page (or banner sheet) would be treated as a separate print job adding to the network traffic. Regardless, consider the costs: 20,000 prints per month @ $.0075/copy and $.01/sheet of paper. If the average print job is 15 pages you have added $840/year to your costs ($2,400 over 3 years) If the average...

I don't know what you guys are talking about. We have tons of both 850's 1050's and 1085's (at least 50 from within my branch location) in the field. Mostly in schools (which I personally think is the worst environment to place a copier-due to too many hands on the machine by teachers who can care less about do's and don'ts.). But they quite often run PM to PM without any calls. And I've found that the majority of "in between calls" are due to user mishandling and abuse. Most of the...

I read that article and it stated that the district or classrooms were using all inkjet printers. I'm sure there will be a savings however I would love to have the chance to figure out my own solution for them. I'm thinking, there's got to be a better way and a more cost effective way than 380 laser printers.

Re: Net New Business "How Do We Do It"?

40% of my business last year came from Schools or Government. I found a few niche pain points that almost any District or Department would experience and used that as my lead in with the appropriate person. For example, for schools, it was Common Core State Standards. Learning the implications and compliance issues got me lots of appointments and 4 new Districts. We utilize UCC Filing Data as another prospecting tool which works really well for having a leg-up when you walk in the front door...

Art, Great article I always used the purpose question when hiring. Ask the candidate what their purpose is, what would drive their core being to do what every it takes as long as it's legal, moral, and ethical to succeed in the career of sales? When people have the conviction for their purpose they will have the strength needed when the world of circumstances attempts to stop their momentum.

This is a tough business and finding young blood who are willing to gut it out is HARD. I've been in this industry for 5 years now and every year the thought of quitting enters my mind. The reasoning to stick around has to be more than just about money. For me, lasting 10 years in copier sales is the equivalent to getting my "black belt" in "the art of selling." I already have the confidence to feel like I can do anything -- real estate, start my own business, etc... I've gone through the...

If you work with any school district this is huge. I have a school district client that has abandoned PCs in favor of tablets, chrome books and chrome boxes for the teaches classrooms and students. They run Google Apps For Education on about 400 devices. Printing is all done through Google Chrome. The benefits for a school district to do this are amazing. Unfortunately Ricoh was a little late to the game on this one.

I am dealing with this right now, my DBM is looking into it but I'm skeptical having lost two previous accounts to Ricoh Direct. One was a school district we had seven mfp's in Ricoh had one billable obsolete AF 650 so "technically" we weren't the incumbent. Ricoh has a lot of ways to get around their rules. Ricoh "says" the dealer cost is the same as direct but we see them sell at our cost all the time. Originally Posted by txeagle24: We've had issues with Ricoh finding (or try really hard...

Re: Why We Still Need Legacy Sales Skills

Art Here is my two cents worth. What goes around comes around in this world. Sometimes sooner, sometimes later. If and when we get to the point of people totally taking out the human to human contact in the sales process, they will then begin to miss that same human to human contact, and start to look to regain it. Its my belief that we will begin to see that very soon in things like facebook. Its a great way to help stay in touch with people. But once people begin to use it to avoid each...
