Re: RICOH INTRODUCES NEW AFICIO MP C2051/MP C2551 COLOR DIGITAL IMAGING SYSTEM
The 2030 was a tremendous bargin, with print, scan & fax, plus priced under the 2050SP, remember with the MPC2050SP youhad the add the fax and MSRP was about $1,045. The only catch was no large lcd display, no scan2folder, scan2email and a TWAIN scanner was standard. Nice entry level color, will be missed in the lineup, truly another blunder by not replacing this system. Art

I have been an independent consultant for the office technolgy industry since 1994 and in the industry since 1981. My primary focus has been on the OMD software system. eAutomate is a competitor of OMD which has been around for over 20 years. My experience with eAutomate is very limited (mainly word of mouth from industry collegues) but I have been told that the service contract invoicing (the profit bread and butter of the industry) and financial modules are not as flexible or capable as...

I quess that's why the system now comes with PSIII, tho enable the mail2print feature. I have questions also! Why would I need hot spot when I can have mail2print? Are there any other limitation with mail2print other than if you send multiple attachments only the first attachement would be printed and the fact that mail2print does not support hi compression pdf. I know there's the cost of the PSIII when working with the other mfp's to enable mail2print. But what's the cost to use the Hot Spot?

Re: Canon iR2525 is Killer!
Wow!!!! This is a killer all right.....how in the world can we compete against a 25ppm A3 machine with a price like that. From what I know this is stripped down compared to most 25ppm systems. There are many options that are standard on others. That is why this is so cheap. If someone just needs a barebone system at an incredible price this is it.

Art, Check this out: Specs Canon iR2525 It does not come standard with color scan-to-email, ifax, ftp, smb. You need a color send kit. There is no HDD. Does not come with PCL, PS. It has UFR II LT printing. Does not come standard with RADF or DADF as they call it. No searchable PDF's or OCR standard Smallest mono LCD screen on an A3 system that I have seen. 512 Ram...fraction of most MFP's in this range keyboard is not standard

Re: Canon iR2525 is Killer!
Thanks for the info. But I must say 3750 per month or 15,000 over 4 months and nothing for a 25ppm system. I would not say they take a beating with those numbers...now if you said 15,000 in ONE month then that would be something.

Re: Emailed request for quote????
This is a very good question Fisher. You are right this is becoming more common as prospects do not want a sales pitch they just want facts & numbers. Then you give them for what they ask. They really don't care about a solution they want the bottom line. Many of those places will give you ONE shot only so you better come in with some good numbers since you will not have a 2nd chance. Otherwise it comes down to a price war then you really lose because the last person they talk with in...

It will be a challenging time for Sharp, I agree, Ed was a very good leader and actually had a good grasp on technonolgy, he always knew the strengths and capabilities of the products and solutions. Regarding the new User Interface, dont be deluded by comments that it is going to a difficult learning curve, the display may look complex at first glance, but it is the most flexible system on the market. Re: Ricoh's move into videoconferencing
I familiar with the new system, however have not had a chance to research it. One item I found was mondopad for about $6k. Keep in mind with the Ricoh device, that one of these unified communication systems is needed for each location and I believe the MSRP is $2,500 each.

Sharp MFP's have been able to do that for years as well, 3 customized buttons on the main screen, the new UI will allow you to put up to 18 customized buttons on each page, with up to 15 pages available on the Home Screen, this can be done from the panel. You can also add buttons for any of the OSA connectors you may need, for example a connection to your Document Managment System, Fax Server or Cost Accounting application. There are 24 loaded languages that can be easily tied to the user's...

I think we all struggle with where to draw the line. The point I make with my Sales force, as well as with my customers is if you come in one day and you can't scan to email, but it was working fine yesterday the customer perceives this as "my MFD is broken" because one or more of the functions have stopped working. But most of the time nothing on the MFD is broken. The configuration is the same as it has been for the last 6 months (or 2 years). What most often has changed is something on...

Re: HDD Wiping/Reformatting
Amanda, Just formatting the Hard Drive and reloading system Software is definitely not enough to meet the due diligence requirements because the data can still be recovered by a knowledgeable person with forensic software. Even though it isn't easy to do, it is possible and that is enough to make it unacceptable to most companies. The need to reload System Software is a two edge sword. Since only an authorized dealer can "legally" have, and install, System Software it protects the Dealer's...

Re: HDD Wiping/Reformatting
Jason, You are absolutely right, it isn't the responsibility of the new dealer to wipe the Hard Drives of the old Dealers MFDs. And if it is a line that your dealership does not carry you couldn't restore it to working order after you did wipe the Hard Drives. Which would cause them more problems and cost if they return it ti their leasing company in non working order. But if you want to add value you do have the discussion with the new client and inform and advise them of their options. I...

I know my Sr. Management is concerened that reps will start selling A4 systems to replace existing A3 systems and drive revenue down. The perfect spot as everyone has pointed out is in the MPS world. This product will do well to knowck out the HP, Lexmarks, etc... I wish we had it sooner.

Re: Monocomponent vs. Dual Component
Can't comment on the Canon use of single component but Kyocera uses this system and the copy quality consistently is better than equivalent Ricoh's we sell. As long as the unit is running enough prints to go through the toner on a regular basis you get better quality not less. The mixed developer gets refreshed with the toner and keeps the image quality up. They use mono component for their new colour as well.

At one point I would have thought Kip would be a good buy for Canon. I have heard that they share or at least did share some manufacturing space in Japan. Kip is also a monocomponent system, much like Canon. However, now that Canon has Oce, Kip might be less attractive. I would like to see Ricoh buy them. Kip has a great wide format line. They suffer from not being diversified at all in thier product line.

Re: Would You Loan this company Money?
Hi Art, I agree. Ricoh needs an entry level 4 D/min system. I have always thought Ricoh should take thier gel sprinter technology and develop a plotter around it, instead they rely on Epson to fill this void. They seem ready to concede the 4 d market to Oce, Kip and the plotter cometitors. I wonder if it is the aftermarket that drives the decision. With a 4 D-Size per minute you are generating less clicks and less aftermarket revenue. Perhaps they want use limited dollars to develope higher...

Wow I am very surprised that they ship with a starter cartridge in a commercial system. The Canon 1700 series comes with 15,100 high yield toner out of the box. The drum yields 116,000. Very tough box to compete against. I have sold 3 in the past 2 weeks.

Re: Why is single clicking an 11×17 on a “copier” legal?
I thought before the age of the "cost per page" agreements that all systems double clicked for 11x17. I had heard many years ago a that Canon was the first to introduce a system that single clicked for 11x17 and had also heard that the single click was not the intent and it was a mistake. Anyone else hear that? Also with testing on some of my 11x17 laser printers, they all single click for 11x17.

But with the new Print Production systems we will be looking at a different type of customer in the P4P market, and to tell you the truth I'm not even sure that 11x17 single click would ever be one of thier main objections. I've also heard of this, funny thing is dealer or direct branch that they bought the machine from never knew about it either, and yes they had the special clause "if we find you using more than your estimated coverage". After six years the system is still in the field w/single click 11x17, they are running 80% 11x17. They've never been told they were using too much toner. Art
