Use a router to create a mini wireless network where the copier is the only thing connected. Velcro the router to the back of the copier. Name the router's wireless Copier. Plug router into copier with patch cable. You can get a wireless router on-line for less than $20 these days.

If I am hearing this right, you have two issues...USB access and driverless/wireless printing. Others have USB printing, we don't. However, we have HotSpot Printers that no one else has. http://www.printeron.net/landing/ricoh/Ricoh.html I am going to assume that you are not familier with this. HotSpot printers allow you to print from anything that has email access including iPhones or BlackBerries. You don't need drivers and you don't need to be on the network. John, I don't know if this is still a live issue for you but I thought of you while reading up on the Fiery Controller Option for the C2800/C3300 and the C4000/C5000. In an FAQ Document under wireless printing options it states, "When printing from USB removeable media, the Fiery will print Postscript and PDF File formats. If the Fiery has internet access and the Native Document Conversion option (i.e. EFI PrintMe) then you can also print native Microsoft Office Documents from your USB..."

Re: Wireless Printing to a LAN port on a Ricoh 4420NF (Savin 3760NF)
Answers to the questions I think are in there: Yes, you can wirelessly print to a 4420 with a wireless card, as long as the home has wireless. The router does not act as a server, it acts as a router. It will take the print job from the PC and "route" it to the printer, as long as you configure them both to be on the same network/IP scheme and print to that IP. Do you need a wireless print server? Well, the answer to that is "no" if you have a wireless card in the 4420 and "yes" if you not.

Re: Wireless Printing to a LAN port on a Ricoh 4420NF (Savin 3760NF)
Thanks very much and LOL about the paragraphs, you are right about that! So if I am understanding this correctly, I need to put the wireless print server next to the 4420NF and run a short CAT5 cable to it? I then can input an IP address into the 4420NF and tell the printer driver what it is. Or maybe it will assign one automatically under DHCP? I would then find it on the 4420NF and input that when settin up the driver? LAstly, do I need to do anything with the router if I use the wireless...

Re: Wireless Printing to a LAN port on a Ricoh 4420NF (Savin 3760NF)
Correct, short CAT5 cable from printer to wireless print server. Best to put in a static IP into the machine, otherwise, you'd have to print to the hostname of the printer and have something doing local DNS to map it from the name to the ever-changing IP. You shouldn't need to do anything at all with the router. Just make sure your IP for the printer is in the same range as the PC. for example, the PC's IP is 192.168.1.1, you could make the printer 192.168.1.44 For small home networks, it's...

Even for machines that have a wireless option, it's generally cheaper to sell them a wireless print server that plugs into the copier's network port. We do it all the time.

Re: Setup in wireless environment
Thanks for the feedback. To be on the safe side I ended up snaking a 100 foot Cat5 cable back to the fast ethernet switch. I just was not too sure on the stability or how to setup one of these units. When you plug the cat5 into the copier are you using the wireless print server or the wireless bridge? Some wireless print server do not have the bridge from what I read. Can someone explain how to configure one of these units so we all can learn. JasonR what make/model are you using?

Re: Setup in wireless environment
To clarify, what I'm using is actually a wireless bridge that connects the network card on the MFP via a cat5 cable to the bridge which connects to the wireless network. http://www.cdw.com/shop/produc...al-Band/1700151.aspx By doing that, you are connected to the network and can do anything you would be able to do with a direct network connection (scanning, etc.). If you get a USB wireless print server, you would not be able to do anything but print (which excludes scanning, but does include...

Re: MPC 2030 Wireless Connection
scanning is thru a network only. Why not use the Ethernet port, connect a WAP to the Ethernet port and then connect the WAP to the wireless network. WAP = Wireless Access Port. You can get a wireless switch to act as a WAP pretty cheap and don't have to run around in circles.

These are all very interesting comments. Not sure if anyone has seen the videos and new interface on the color systems. Watch those videos on youtube and see yes that is a cool interface but is it really practical? I am surprised Sharp is not beating their drum more about this as I think it is an industry first. I have been involved in several mobile print installs lately and they sometimes involve allowing non employees to use a companies wireless LAN. Usually you also need a PC turned on all of the time with a wireless app like Breezy installed and running on a local PC. This could be potentially problematic from a security point of view. For either Android or iOS, you can also use the Smart Device Print App as long as they are on the same wireless network as the device they want to print to. What I like about the app is the ability to apply finishing, use Locked/Stored/Hold Print & allow the client to use User Codes. I don't know if you can do that with AirPrint on iOS devices.

Now on the 1224-1232, 1060-75, 2090-2105, 5510NF systems there is a wireless 802.11B or IEE1394 option (you can't have both) that you can by to add to your...

Re: wireless nic on 224sp
A wireless bridge converts, or "bridges", a wired ethernet appliance to wireless. D-Link 802.11g Wireless Bridge for $99.99 from Tiger Direct can give you faster commumication speed than the 802.11b Ricoh interface ... and because the connection is made through the RJ45 port on the NIC, all functions should be available. (As low as $30 for 802.11b wireless bridge.)

I know the technology, I have not actually performed this specific scenario ... so those who have please verify that all functions are available. They should be because all the bridge does is take the place of the wiring. I had a customer hook up a 1055 with a wireless print server. The SmartNet would not work in this case because the wireless print server connected through the parallel port. But in the bridge scenario, connection is made through the Ricoh NIC so all functions should be...

So you were going to use two different network interfaces, a wireless and ethernet? To use the notebook computers directly to the wireless without going through the network, you would be setting up an AdHoc wireless network between the copier and notebooks. What you should have done is put a wireless access point in it at the network RJ45 jack near the copier, this would have put the machine on the network through the Ricoh wireless card, configure the notebook wireless adapters to access...

A wireless bridge connects to the RJ45 port of a network printer, allowing a wireless connection to a network with a wireless access point or router. A wireless bridge simply takes the place of the CAT5/5e cable ... no hardwire necessary. Since the connection is through the NIC, all network functions are available (as opposed to using a wireless print server which connects...
