I grew up in northern Illinois, where we said "pop". I took a job in southeast Missouri, where my staff laughed at my "strange" way of talking, because to them it was "soda". They stopped laughing when I gave them a "pop" quiz (with the prize a can of....whatever you call it). Still love that memory!

Well the month is over and we went through some serious changes. Just kidding not a single rep met their quota. They held a cold call competition. Which led to a bunch of bad calls just to win the prize. Finally the almost sales manager is offering to pay for shipping on mailers but still offer no real plan to increase sales. I know this industry offers its sales reps a chance to earn six figures but it isn't possible at this dealer. What makes a great dealership? Now that I have a years...

I'm a fan of making the prize significant enough that people really get competitive with it. Perhaps a weekend retreat to somewhere on the Eastern Shore of MD with a significant other with a per diem & a good seafood dinner paid for by the company. Just the first thing that comes to mind having eaten some incredible lobster in MD.

If you have 6 reps, I'd have each rep suggest the prize they want. Just reading the posts so far in this thread seems to justify this theory .It's silly to give away a Colorado fishing expedition to someone who wanted a shopping spree in New York City. Decide what kind of budget you want, ask each one what they'd want and see what you can work that fits into your budget.

bandit - I understand Gartner gave the prize to Ricoh for 2008. I am curious about next year (2009) since Ricoh bought IKON and is shifting away from Independent Dealers. Remember, this poll (and the Gartner ranking) is for the "BTA / DEALER CHANNEL." My money is not on Ricoh.

We received a 2022 DMAP shipment from another dealer, and this was part of the prize when it arrived. No packing list, etc. Have contacted Ricoh with serial number. We'll see how long we keep it before someone wants it back.

I mentioned in the previous blog that we had our Kickoff Sales meeting for 2020 yesterday. Rather than drive the three hours home I opted to stay over night and leave first thing in the AM. 2019 was a very good year, I was back in President's Club for the 7th time, got me a $50 gift card for winning a contest at our branch. It's my understanding from my accountant is that you have to declare all monies even if it is lower than $600 (check or cash), in the case of a prize I just won $1,000 for the most new business revenue for the 1st quarter. The company is paying this in my payroll, thus I will be taxed on it. If you received the item as a gift, some companies will issue a 1099 and some won't however that's not an excuse not to declare the item with the IRS. Emie_gran, Sounds like you hit a wall. Don't worry, everyone hits walls routinely. Lombardi said something to the effect that success is getting up only one more time than you were knocked down. My advice - Keep grinding it out. Do the fornt end activities - prospecting, etc... Art is right on with needing a big pipeline. Also, look at your territory. Look for leases that are expriring in the next 12 months, can you get creative and make them work now? How about getting inside your customer...
