Re: All Ricoh A4 devices = no stapler

GIntel ·
The 501/601 are based on a Kyocera MFP without a stapler, so Ricoh didn't have much of a choice on that one. Agreed that its a disadvantage against other A4s, so with Ricoh you will either have to sell the C401 with a finisher or an A3 MFP for the foreseeable future.

Re: Need HELP! Kyocera Color A3 question

dimaxusa ·
Top three points I make when against Kyocera. #1. Take them color samples from your device and any Kyocera because the color output is sub par on all units. If you don’t have access to one look in your crm for an account you co-exist with Kyocera in. Or the next time you have a knock out make some samples and keep them in a binder. If color quality is important to the customer it will be a win. Another point is showing them you get what you pay for, meaning 3 tier color is what they have...

Re: Toshiba now has tier based CPC's?

txeagle24 ·
I pretty much never see anyone proposing Toshiba color equipment, so I haven't seen this. There are a few Kyocera dealers I've seen proposing their tiered color billing capabilities. What shocks me is that no Ricoh dealers have started marketing this. The Cxx02 series & Cxx03 series have the ability to report multiple tiers of color coverage for billing purposes, but in a market with 7 dealers + RBS selling RFG products I have yet to see a single dealer pushing it.

Very interesting. Has anyone else seen Toshiba MFPs selling with tiered CPCs? Art, how were these deals structured? I'm seeing more and more of this from Kyocera (and less and less from Xerox ColorQube), but I'm interested to see how billing evolves once metering/billing and accounting technology catches up. Thanks, Jake

Hi, we sell Toshiba in the UK. The current colour range can run with a two tiered counter already. We used to sell the Kyocera range with this feature it seemed to be good and won us business, but lost us money in service. When colour costs are dropping to 4p, the percentage of toner from the 4p is getting less. So to breaking this down into 3 tiers could seem marginal. But let say you could offer 1.5p for 2% coverage then 2.5p for 2-5% coverage and then 4p for above, you have now lost out...

Jake, First the positives. The apps are the differentiator hopefully they will keep rolling these out and updating the ones they have. The lines they are putting out are strong and reliable. Support from our local Kyocera reps is great both presales and and service support. On the other hand our techs do get somewhat frustrated with the help line. Re: Copier Parts & Accessories China Tariff Starts in 9 Working Days

I read past the "bill" description too fast. A bill is not law, it is, I think, just an expression of unanimous opinion by the Senate. Somewhere in the news this week, I read that Kyocera intends to increase production of A3 copiers in China by expanding a current factory. I am sure all copier manufacturers plan 10+ years into the foreseeable future and cannot worry about politicians who could come and go every four years.

Tokyoamsterdam: Japan's Canon plans to buy Dutch copier and printer maker Oce for 730 million euros ($1.09 billion) as it tries to return to growth after the global downturn and fight rival Ricoh. Copier and digital camera maker Canon and Oce said in a joint statement on Monday that Canon intends to offer 8.60 euros per share, or 730 million euros, for Oce's outstanding shares. Canon's offer follows little over a year after Japan's Ricoh, the world''s largest copier maker, bought US office...

-Big boost to Canon's Production biz -Decent boost to Canon's Direct sales -Big FU to Konica and its OEM/Production units (Oce arguably KM's #1 reseller) -Big Benefit of having just $119M in debt (Canon=0.4% debt load) -the 730 Euro price is barely above Oce's 704E debt - Both Ricoh and KM were deemed too financially unstable to bid on Oce -Hp and Kyocera may counter offer, but unlikely -Wow

Some great points in this thread. In the end all of the main copier products do the same thing...they put toner on the paper, fuse it and offer a collection of ancillary tools which in many cases are more important (like scanning) than the copy function anymore. Someone said earlier it was the whole package that the client wants to buy...they get impacted from everyone in your dealership, admin, billing, shipping, support, sales and yeh your suppliers too. Art stated: "Geesh, so where does that leave the likes of KonicaMinolta, Toshiba, Kyocera and Sharp?" This specific Ricoh Press Release is a direct response to Konica Minolta acquiring All Covered, Inc. If you read carefully, there is no real newsworthy 'event' or 'announcement' in the Press Release, which is a statement in itself. The Press Release announces an 'intent' rather than an 'action' that has been taken. Sources tell me that this 'dog-and-pony' show was dressed up at an event held...

I agree with almost all of everyone's statements. The truth is its just going to get harder for each of the second tier guys to grow and succeed and considering that Sharp, Kyocera, and Toshiba all have plenty of options outside of printing it would not be shocking to hear if some of them left or sold-out in the next five years. However, the feeling I get is that each of them still has some fight left and although they all face some headwinds none are actively working on their exit strategy.

It will be a challenging time for Sharp, I agree, Ed was a very good leader and actually had a good grasp on technonolgy, he always knew the strengths and capabilities of the products and solutions. Regarding the new User Interface, dont be deluded by comments that it is going to a difficult learning curve, the display may look complex at first glance, but it is the most flexible system on the market. You can make it real simple for the end user and there are features that will blow you...

Re: KYOCERA MITA ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE TRANSITION

Art Post (Guest) ·
GMAN Never thought of that with either Ed or Pietrunti, either one may play well for Ricoh. More importantly I think the industry as a whole is struggling to find and identify new ways to make profit with the slow demise of the printed and copied page. Quietly Ricoh has launched a new start up and site for it's eWriter solution. It's an imprtant step for at least one of he manufacturers to identify the loss of clicks, thus the eWriter solution model is based on SAS (Software as a Service).

Now that we are hearing Mike Pietrunti will remain in our Industry and soon be announced at another manufacturer, the question is which one? As you hinted Art, Mike may have realized that "Toshiba, Sharp and Kyocera may get out of the industry all together" and he needed to move on to move up. Since SHARP will continue to be a periphery player in the Industry and Toshiba is managing their MFP business into it's decline, I put my money on Pietrunti surfacing at Ricoh, as the new VP of DEaler ...

Assuming that this is a municipal account in the state of New Jersey.....this would be the Kyocera 48-month cost per copy program on state contract. You pretty much can't beat it on price unless you also have the state contract cost per page program. Word on 'The Street' says that Global Imaging Systems, owned by XEROX, has hired Mike Pietrunti. Mike knew to abandon ship at Kyocera MITA and has landed at a very sound company, with Global. He will be far better off than landing at Ricoh and helping them transition to a strictly Direct operation, or helping SHARP manage their MFP business into extinction. Both Global and Mike Pietrunti made a good move.

Re: Color Print Control

No, absolutely none of them do this. There is no MFP/printer (at least from Ricoh/Canon/HP/Lexmark/Kyocera) that will print a (truly) black document and click it for color. Now, there are many many times that a document appears to be B&W to the human eye and contains color to the computer's eye. The most famous instance of this is Acrobat 4. Acrobat4?!?!? you say? No one uses Acrobat4! But that's not true. For compatibility's sake, many scanners with a direct to PDF option (even...

Re: CRANE COPIER DROP

I do not think that was a current customer of ProCopy. So I don't think it was something that they sold. It definitely was not a Canon, Ricoh, Konica Minolta, Xerox or HP. It could have been a Kyocera but I really think it was a Toshiba. Look at the copier as it is being hoisted into the air. It starts to spin and you can see the front. I think the blocked this on purpose so you could not see the make. But the box gives it away. I just replaced a Toshiba with a similar appearing shell.

Re: New stuff from Ricoh

GIntel ·
Any opinions on how these have sold historically and how they have fared in the last year or so as they become old? Also, does it seem like they are being replaced or just discontinued? I feel like there is not a huge market for ultra low-end A3 BW MFPs. I think only Kyocera has a walk-up A3 BW MFP below 20ppm.

Re: Monocomponent vs. Dual Component

lep524 ·
Can't comment on the Canon use of single component but Kyocera uses this system and the copy quality consistently is better than equivalent Ricoh's we sell. As long as the unit is running enough prints to go through the toner on a regular basis you get better quality not less. The mixed developer gets refreshed with the toner and keeps the image quality up. They use mono component for their new colour as well.

Re: Everyone is always looking to bash who's on top!

Art - Your story and thoughts are both enlightening. While Ricoh should remain a dominant force in our Industry, they have many challenges as an organization. It comes down to leadership and culture, which are essential, even if you have a great product. Kyocera, SHARP, and Toshiba share a certain destiny when it comes to MFP products. They are managing the decline of their MFP business, which means they may soon wind up in the 'Other Vendors' category on future Market Share reports. I hope...
