Re: When did you first learn about the industry
Honestly, it was when I walked in the door for my first interview. I remember the individual interviewing me mentioning that they sold Ricoh equipment, & the only frame of reference I had is that Ricoh sponsored the "Call to the Bullpen" on MLB games at the time. Before I got into the industry, I could not make a straight copy on the first try if you paid me, because I never thought to use the document feeder & could never get the original lined up on the glass. I knew about all of...

Re: A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Copier Demo/Appointment
We had a school that called in service for a defective copier glass. It was broke and they definitely didn't have anything to do with that. It must be defective. when the technician got there, The machine was jammed with pictures of someone's rear end. Someone broke the glass while sitting on it and didn't remove the copies from the machine! Thanks! Amanda Byrne

Re: CBS NEWS REPORT ON COPIER SECURITY
Certainly not to come across as a conspiracy theorist (although that can sometimes be fun, too), but didn’t the video show that return shipping paperwork was lying on the platen glass on at least one of the copiers purchased? I wonder how many copiers in that NJ warehouse have shipping paperwork attached or simply lying under the ADF. Wouldn’t an identity thief looking to purchase a copier be able to browse the NJ warehouse looking for shipping paperwork from financial institutions and...

Re: MFP Refurbishing & Recycling
In Nova Scotia, Canada we are no longer allowed to dispose of copiers by taking them to the landfill. We must pay a local moving company $30.00 per hour (or send our tech to their premises) to disassemble the copier into it glass, metal, plastic & electronic components. These components are then placed in different bins for recycling. It can take approx two hours. The tech does not have to be delicate in the disassembly so wire cutters, crowbars and sledge hammers are now part of our...

Re: Green not printing correctly on Ricoh MPC4500
John, There is a simple test to figure out if it is the MFD or the Print driver. Put an original on the glass and make a copy of an original that has the correct color green. If it copies OK the copier is OK, and you need to focus on the print controller or print driver. If it copies and the green is bad on the copy then focus on the Copier. If the copier is off on the color you won't get it right on the driver. You need a break fix tech to adjust or fix the copier. as a side note remember...

Re: It's Official, RICOH US launch of SP5200 Black A4
fisher....thanks for sharing your picture. First impression when I saw this was the way over-sized LCD control panel which is disproportionate from the top of the unit. Another thing was the small not so robust doc feed and how tall that unit is. How much does the doc feed hold? What size in the platen glass? Does the pages come out back to front or right to left? What are those drawer capacities? Looks like they can hold 2 reams, but I doubt that. Are those stabilizers on the bottom so the...

Re: 600 DPI QUESITON FOR THE EXPERTS--
From RIP Easiest method is to have them set it up on 8½x11 paper in their application, set 8½x11 paper in the tray, cut master, then just put evelopes in and print. From Glass Easiest method is to turn off auto paper size detection before making master, or set 8½x11 paper in the tray, cut master, then just put evelopes in and print. ANy other suggestions Art? Re: Email from Canon P4P'er "Ricoh Direct Pricing"
I have mentioned before that all resources are being invested in IKON / RBS and support (field and financial) is being scaled back on the Dealer side at Ricoh. Just wait until April 2009! The current Ricoh leadership would applaud this situation and toast to it with an expensive glass of red wine.

Re: 2232/38 series productivity!
If you want to beat an IR C3200 with the Ricoh, simply pick a sample file that has a solid blue or purple background and have them automatic duplex the prints. The Canon will leave little white specs on the second side of the print. Also, have them do a photo original off of the glass. The Canon does not have a good scan quality off of the glass. Good selling!

Re: How do you charge for scanning
@bung 25... We reviewed this closely about 4yrs ago and as a business owner the actual expense when scanning is one of the top 2 main functions on a MFP can be higher than one would expect. Many doc feeders have multiple feed tires, and with labor costs being high, it only makes sence to charge for something like this. The last 6 months 68% of our Service calls that were "lines on the scans or copies" was due to people not cleaning the glass properly after instructed. 52 calls total @ $55 /...

MY self-esteem is too strong to let any of you guys get to me!!! I did notice that I typed Mamory instead of Memory. That may explain some of my problems...my head is in the wrong place. I did find out the issue with the 1515 duplex. I was trying to take a two sided original, send it through the ADF, then turn the original over and send it through again. That's what you can't do. You can put it on the glass and flip it over and you can put two seperate originals in the ADF and get duplexed...

Re: How do Original setting adjustments work?
How much time have you got??!! At switch on the machine checks the white plate underneath the glass and some dummy pixels on the CCD. The machine then knows what white is and what black is. After the image is scanned it is passed to the IPU (Image Processing Unit). The IPU carries out at least 6 processes of filtering. Different filters are used to actually break down the image so that it can be sent to the laser for writing. It also looks at the make up of the image to detect whether it is...

Re: TWAIN on Savin 2522
Vince, you're right, TWAIN driving is ridiculous. But, some companies have applications that only support TWAIN scanning (in this case I'm working with some software for a doctors office and there are a load of other people in my territory with this software). If they are all going to have to go to the supermarket so to speak, I'd rather sell them a 1515mf or if they already need to replace their existing copier a 2022. Re: Defeating the Check Security Features
I have found it helpful to fully understand what is going on and why. I always thought that it was the silver "hologram" looking thing that triggered the black copy but that is not correct. It is a patch of yellow dots that show up three places across the bottom of the check. You eliminate those and the check copies. This can be done by having that part of the check positioned on the glass so that the yellow dots don't scan but you have to be willing to give up the routing information that...

Slight correction...both the IM 430F and the IM 430Fb are 43 ppm. Additional info...the 430F (SP 501) has a Service Maintenance platform while the 430Fb (SP 502) has a User Maintenance platform. The SP 510 and SP 502 are printer only versions of their respective MFP's. As far as I know, the SP's and the IM 350 (350F without a standard fax) have not been launched yet. It is interesting to note that the service training does not reference the MP 301SPF or the MP 402SPF at all. The new IM units...

Re: Buyers Are Liars!
Unreal! I had to have this talk with a rep the other day. This girl sees the positive in everything and is about as happy go lucky as anyone I've ever met. She didn't believe me that buyers are liars. She got strung along with a customer that was going to lunch with her, having a glass of wine in the evening with her, all the while telling her she would have an order soon. She stopped by her office and there was a brand new machine sitting there and it had been there for a couple weeks.

Re: Canon IR C5255 First Copy Out Time
Update from Canon service engineers: There is no fix for this. 1 - acknowledgment that FCO is slow and we will probably lose deals because of it. 2 - the specs are written from placing the paper on the glass, selecting tray 1, and starting the print. and then the real kicker... 3 - They don't get this spec from any kind of warmup time included. He stated they run 5 sheets to fully wake the machine and then start the test meaning no warm up times whatsoever are factored in. The spec sheet is...

Re: Escalating Maintenance Agreements
There will always be an animosity between Sales & Service. Currently this is the most thorny issue (as long as your Service Dept provides good service). This stems, in part, from the Manufacturers getting into Direct Sales. To be fair to the Manufacturer's Direct Sales the trend was already heading this way, they just escalated it and made it significantly worse. Click charges getting lower and lower killing the golden goose of the Dealerships = Service & supplies billing! We can...
