Welcome back😀 https://www.p4photel.com/blog/...-the-copier-industry 6 Reasons Why Flat Rate aka One Rate Will Change the Copier Industry Art Post 36 minutes ago I remember when plain paper copiers used rolls of paper and not sheets. I remember when the glass on the copiers had to move back and forth. I remember when copiers used liquid ink (toner) to produce an image. I remember when you used a dial to set how many copies you wanted to make. Yup, it's been a pretty incredible journey to see...

Re: Question about Toshiba MFP's
Less than 5% of my Toshiba clients are not under a Maintenance Service contract. Toshiba sells lots of kits designed for trained service techs to install but not typical end users. Even those customers who prefer not to be invoiced for monthly meter reads we try to automatically collect the meter reads via email or fax and usually but them on copy blocks.

Re: Questions about Xerox's MPS Offerings to SMB Customers
Hey Art, I have not heard of the XPS program. But Xerox has alot of flavors of MPS, thats for sure. So far it looks like Xerox has a well developed direct-to-enterprise MPS program through Xerox Global Services (XGS). This has been around for a while, but they recently "announced" it as Enterprise Print Services (EPS). Four components: - Office support - Remote worker/device support - Production and mailroom support - External doc procurement (outsourcing) Its pretty all-encompassing. Thats...

Can you give us some idea - just curious - what push-back (if any) you have had? Most interested in: "...reasonably protects the confidentiality of any customer information stored on the copier’s Hard Drive, in case that Hard Drive is replaced or the copier is eventually disposed of. It is the customer’s complete responsibility to manage their Hard Drive’s information security upon disposal" (maybe too soon for you to comment). and, do you get questions about ..."Whenever possible, to allow...

Re: Does your Copier Service Contract still reflect 1970's Analog Copiers?
Most copier brands now include the ability to email or fax the meter reads and service codes on a regular basis. I have never had a customer concern about this. Every Monday AM, I get a report from all of my recent copier installs. I have gotten pretty good at skimming these reports, seeing any problems and proactively dispatching a service tech. Customer really like the idea that I am electronically watching their copier.

Re: The reason why Ricoh Bought Ikon
Is any copier vendor begun to charge for MFP scans yet? I think I read somewhere recently where some vendor gives 45k free scans before the meter starts to charge. What would be a "market price" for a scan?

The MP1515, 161, 171 are incredible engines, they just run and run without a hicup, I have a few of these that are running 3-5K every month and one was just traded in that had over 200K on the meter. It's not a money maker for the sales person, however it fills the gap when you are replacing a fleet and need a few lv devices that can print, scan, copy and fax. Think of it this way, if you didn't have these devices in the line-up, your customer may look elsewhere to fill the void and alas...

They do keep on truckin', I'll give you that. With the big push to MPS, however, customers are looking to move to more of a distributed printing model instead of centralizing on a few big MFP's. Additionally, MPS has forced everyone to learn how to service HP devices if they didn't already, & anyone can pick up faster HP A4 desktops from Tech Data, & the CPP will be very comparable. I love having Lexmark to fill this whole that Ricoh has left. For the same price as the Ricoh, I can...

Re: Dealer reseting meters??? USED as NEW!
I have seen this before with a dealer selling used systems as new and reseting the meter. On a lot of Ricoh systems there is still a mechanical meter, which in the cases I saw, the dealer did not reset both. So they were off.

Re: Color Print Control
Guys, I have seen this happen on a MS Publisher document where they placed what appeared to be a grayscale image but it was saved in an RGB colorspace. And it DID click the color meter for that page. Just because something appears to be black doesn't mean it does not have color data. If the MFD sees color data it clicks the color meter no matter how it "looks" to the end user. Vince

Re: Billing For Banner Length Prints
My understanding is that the MFP "clicks" every time it measures X length (based on single/double click) pass the registration roller. That being the case, the banner would charge for whatever length passes, so (assuming single click 11x17) if you print a 34" banner, the MFP will click 2 times. Interestingly, if you print a 42 inch banner, the meter should click 2.47 times. Those fractions aren't visible, but the technician I spoke with assured me the machine remembers them and adds them up...

Re: Why is single clicking an 11×17 on a “copier” legal?
From a service point of view, I was wondering if 11 x 17" as a single click will screw up your PM cycles for Maintenance and Support. I think but am not sure that the copier will internally count the copy clicks accurately but the meter only advances a single click for 11 x 17".

Re: Subject: Ricoh Introduction of the Ricoh Select Series
I think we all need to wait until we see the details. If this is a carryover from IKON (maybe an IKON rep can chime in) this is not anything like what we do when we "recondition" a machine for resale. These are actually reconditioned, repainted, etc. to the point that they qualify for a -0- meter again. Probably still too pricy for my company to ever buy one but I don't think we are talking about the same thing.

Re: Seperator Pages?
Is your customer really sure they want to go there? Keep in mind that EVERY job would be seperated and count a click on the meter. First of all, I'm not sure but I think that the seperator page (or banner sheet) would be treated as a separate print job adding to the network traffic. Regardless, consider the costs: 20,000 prints per month @ $.0075/copy and $.01/sheet of paper. If the average print job is 15 pages you have added $840/year to your costs ($2,400 over 3 years) If the average...

In the Product Support Guide, the explanation of the meter is as follows. With SP5-930-1 set to ON, B&W pages after a color page have been printed are counted as B&W. Re: Service Agreements and "Free" Copies
Here's my thinking and I should have elaborated a little more and should have been more detailed. 1000 pages per month @ .05 profit per page = $50, minus cost of giving away 500 @ .05 = $25, net profit (based on .10) is $25 per month, per machine. Yeah, I goofed! However, I also though of this. With monthly billing or quarterly billing to add a monthly service charge of $25 (for processing paperwork, meter reads etc,), if this can be done you are back up to $50 per unit. The whole idea is to...

Re: OCE 7050, Can anyone help?
Most modern Océ meters read in Square feet. However, the older analog ones measured in linear feet. I'm not sure which one the 7050 does. I went to a Océ TDS400 just last week that the customer has had for 2 years and their meter was 8,000 Square feet, maybe they just haven't put much volume on their 7050.

Re: Ricoh CPC Methodology
I know alot of dealers and branches that will make you commit to a minimum black volume and a minimum color volume. So will get the meter monthly and other quarterly. Monthly reads would make the dealer or branch more profit if the customer DID NOT hit mimimum volumes, the quarterly read is better since meters are read only once per quarter, thus giving the customer more time to met the minimums. This shift started awhile ago, and is very nice profit when customer DO NOT hit the monthly or...

Re: How do you manage Letter of Intent dates for your customers?
Why would you send the letter to the current vendor you are replacing....that is just asking for them to come in an upgrade them. Many times the current vendor lets the customer fall through the cracks and never knows what hits them until they no longer get meter reads. But also leasing companies have that vendors back and will call the vendor and let them know the customer has requested a buyout.

Re: Method for Charging Higher Click Rate for Thicker Stocks
On all Toshiba copiers for the last five plus years, the technician can quickly enable a service code to double click thick, special, Legal, Letter-R and ledger size paper. I have the strong belief that most other copier vendors can do the same thing. Generally, from the print driver, the customer has to select thick paper. The copier has no ability to auto detect if there is thick paper in the bypass. In Toshiba terms, what thick actually means is that the paper passes a little slower...

Re: Pay Plan
Dave: We thought of something quite similar at one of our weekly meetings. The thought to establish a base price for cpc was a great idea. Here are our sticking points. A. All new sales for systems would have to be under a monthly cpc plan. This means no more year plans for new customers. As older yearly MA's become available do they change over to monthly cpc's or do they now remain a "house account"? If they do convert to a monthly cpc, how can you justify an increase? B. How do you...

They have helped me out with accessories in the past but noone likes to do accessories so you might have to throw them a bone. Re: CL400dn
The metric sizes start the largest defined size, "A0", and get smaller as the numbers go up. A4 is similar to Letter size(8.4x11.8), B5 is actually smaller, around 7x10, and B4 is about legal size (10x14.1). A3 is closest to 11x17 (12x16.8). Like everthing metric, the system is a logical progression. A0 is exactly 1 square meter (even though it isn't square, it's about 33x48 in inches, similar to our Arch E size). A1 is an A0 sheet cut in half, and every sheet after that is the same way. The...
