We are still a dealer but we have not sold a LEXMARK in quite a while. They eliminated the MPS Elite program we were own, or at the least removed us from that program. I never had anyone ask about the security due to the Chinese ownership but it’s a great point. Honestly, I have found their support, to us at least, to be very subpar. Our support from brother has been phenomenal the last 2 years. Most of my printer clients are replacing the lexmarks with the brothers as fast as they can.

Taking a deeper dive, knowing that the U.S. DoD Inspector General recommends adding Lexmark to the banned list with Huawei (Lenovo and GoPro also), does that make you uncomfortable when pitching a Lexmark unit?

Tx, ty for this this. I don't bundle MA/Supplies. I just don't want my customer to get jammed in case there is a loss. We've had quite a few losses here in NJ with the storm from a few years ago. I'm just looking for the right thing to do for customers who opt out of the leasing companies insurance. I'm somewhat skeptical of giving them stream of payments plus residual, may open up a can of worms.

So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

Hrmm, well, sure they are. Notice it doesn't say anything about Service or Supplies, we can assume those are either at their normal rate or slightly elevated. It doesn't say anything about lowering the lease rate on this MFD you are buying at "cost" either, so we can assume those are also either at normal or slightly elevated. Well, I recycle as well, but my goal is mainly to prevent my trash from winding up in a landfill. As far as the trees, we're currently using more of them than we are replacing. The amount of forested area on the Earth is massive, so cutting down a tree or 100 or 1,000 trees doesn't seem like it makes any effect. Over a 5 year period, we lose about 1% of our forested areas. It's hard to place an accurate count on the number of trees we lose over a span of time because of the size of the number. Easier to track the loss of areas designated as forests since that highlights the biggest change, usually from nearly 100% of the surface area covered by trees to nearly 0%. The number of trees in a forested acre obviously varies wildly (from about 200 to well over 1,000 per acre), but let's use 500 to start. 500 trees per acre would equal 44 billion trees lost over the...

If you can't speculate, how do you know they are idiots? The business model of selling products at a loss to gain future revenue is not new. Microsoft loses money every time someone buys an xBox, Dell gives away printers costing $1,000 for free, Razors and blades, etc. All of those examples have been very successful for years.

Much faster access time, 100% reliable, no moving parts, can't crash the drive head with sudden loss of power corrupting drive. Much smaller, lighter, much lower power consumption. Well... Here's the deal. There are two levels of "Format". The most common "quick" format does not actually delete the data, it just forgets where the data is. That data can then be recovered by readily available software. A "low level" format actually writes over the data. Formatting a HDD a single time this way "effectively" destroys the data. The p4p Community got this one correct! Ricoh lost -$342M in the U.S. last year. The worldwide loss was -$777M last year! Nice job. With Martin Brodigan already laying the hammer down (confirmed by Art and his sources), the rising tide of layoffs in America and abroad will be a tool to minimize losses this year. I don't understand how companies feel comfortable running at a loss,and I don't understand how customers award contracts to companies that are not operating at a profit. If I was a purchaser looking for a vendor the first thing I'd be thinking about is will I still be dealing with the same company by the end of the contract. These guys are RIPE for a takeover.

This storm is really exposing the flaws of leasing and their insurance policies. I have a number of clients who are just plain screwed. In the future I would have the customer take the leasing company's insurance and not send in the insurance certificates. I have customers who sent in insurance certificates only to find that they did not have flood contents coverage on their policy. One in particular had not even made the first payment on the lease and had only signed the lease 4 weeks...

Found out today, that Assurant does cover floods, I actually got a document from them about their services and I'll post it here later. Seems like most BOP policies will not cover floods, and Assurant will. However this leads to another issue, when leasing companies ask for "proof of insurance" and get a copy of the rider, do they not check to see if their equipment is covered in case of flood? I'm in the same boat. I now think that taking the leasing company's insurance is the best option for the customer. My customers with leasing company coverage have had a delay of a few weeks but next week I will deliver the first unit that was covered. Took a while but its a done deal. PLease up until 7 months ago, Sharp had stated the there was no interest in selling the MFP division. MY how things have changed after the delayed qualcom money, the loss of the Hon Hai deal. Sharp as stated here and in news stories is NOT in complete control of their future. Two major Japanese banks also call the shots with sharp execs. If the right deal is offered that would allow Sharp to become the premiere lcd display manufacturer in the world, then I think sharp will sell the MFP division.
