SalesServiceGuy, I would suggest that a payment strategy is not something I see valuable at all. Customers need help deferring payments on what they already own. In all do respect. Top three points I make when against Kyocera. #1. Take them color samples from your device and any Kyocera because the color output is sub par on all units. If you don’t have access to one look in your crm for an account you co-exist with Kyocera in. Or the next time you have a knock out make some samples and keep them in a binder. If color quality is important to the customer it will be a win. Another point is showing them you get what you pay for, meaning 3 tier color is what they have...

John, The PrintCopy Tool compares pretty favorably to Plotworks. I attached two documents to this post. The Product Support Guide lists differences between the two products. The PowerPoint has screen shots of all the settings in PrintCopy Tool. I hope this helps.

I disagree that you have to own the network in order to offer seat-based billing. Before I go into why, can we (imaging industry) please stop referring to Managed Services as MNS? Maven , What I tell my customers and when I'm out with sales reps is it's all about getting things done in less steps. I'm in the legal vertical so time is money and everyone has an hourly billable. Not saying it's right but if I am installing a new Ricoh that is replacing an old Ricoh, I move the Classic buttons to the Home screen and move the others out. I so seldom get a complete audience when doing install training so I feel the greatest imperative is to minimize the learning curve. Usually one of my selling points has been that the user interface is consistant with what they are used to.

Old Glory, we're in the same boat. I think if they haven't had a Ricoh system then it might be worthwhile to try to start them with the new stuff but I have to first retrain myself. I do like the Quick Copy widget and I think that might be a good way to introduce it to existing customers. I'd be interested to see what people who have never been exposed to the classic method find more user friendly.

So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

So, the Oki or Teriostar 1040 is one page per minute faster than the Ricoh. Oki wants the user to replace the corona wire cartridge and the process cartridge. I believe the process cartridge is the drum. Now, the memories come back, if an end user scratches that drum, it's on the user to replace the drum which is going to be a very pricey item. If I was a business owner I would not want my peeps handling a part that has a cost of $1,500-$2,000. If they scratch it, it's on me to buy another,...

We are selling against these guys the same as you fight your low cost competitors. There are a few obvious detriments that seem to have stood the test of time. In about 5 placements, I've been able to take customers from existing A4 color devices and put them into one of these models for not much more than what they were paying, the high cost of A4 color consumables was the key when the user was making about 1,000 color pages per month along with 1,500 or more black. The low price cpc is an advantage with the Ricoh models. I have used a few of these systems as seed models, meaning that they take the color unit and commit to the lowest possible...

they are typically user customized in the application. For example a law firm printing to an HP 4000, when they print a letter it's always in dup or triplicatel; right? So the program is set up when they select to print, a letter that they get: 1. a print on letterhead 2. a print on plain paper 3. a print on colored paper 4. an evnelope. I received a telephone help call from one of our clients who had a malfunction code on their new copier. To clear these malfunction codes it’s usually a case of opening the front door for a few seconds and then closing it again. I asked the client to do this and then come back to the telephone. Thanks Montecore, That makes sense from a business standpoint. I'm still having a hard time with the math though. If you are trying to figure out the effective purchase price, but only know the monthly lease payment, # months, and lease rate - do you have any ways to figure out the purchase price? 0.0302 percent of $6,200 is $198 so that only adds up to $6,339. But if you subtract $6,537 by $6,339 then you get $198 again. Suggesting that the purchase price is roughly 2 times the total lease...

The solutions range in price from $99 to $599, depending on the solution, but the dealer has some control over the price. There are really only 9 core models (3 printers, 5 desktop MFP, 2 console MFP); the remaining 7 models are simply different standard configurations that are available. All products share the same user interface at the MFP and range in speed from 40ppm to 55ppm.

Certainly the service and supplies provide ongoing profits (at least one would hope) but keep in mind that the machine that they sell to you for $8,000 that you sell for $10,000 is still just $8,000 for them. They could sell that same machine to an end-user for $8,000 and be no worse off then had they sold it to you.

I think we make an error when we assume that Ricoh selling a machine to an end user for $8k is the same as Ricoh selling a machine to a dealer for $8k. When Ricoh sells a machine to a dealer for $8k they are done, when Ricoh sells a machine to an end user for $8k they have other costs, including paying the street rep and his manager so I don't think it is not true to say the $8k is the same to Ricoh from either source.

Toshiba does offer a HDD DeCommissioning program. Basically it costs the end user $300.00 and some paperwork and we put the old HDD in the customers hands.

I've uploaded the doc file. Also, tech support did provide some very detailed information to me via email that I just reviewed. The main difference is that they are scanning via IP which doesn't account for the possibility of the IP Address changing.

If the machine is printing a fax, the user will be able to copy the document, meaning it will scan the originals and after the fax has been received the copy process will start, same is true of printing to the device while it is printing a fax.

After creating a PDF but not printing that PDF but printing the same document in Indesign, why will it then print. Art, you need to read the stuff you send. The answer was in the Lanier FAQ's that YOU posted. Q. What is the new Quota Setting feature? A. Quota setting is a new feature that allows administrators to set limits on the volumes that individual users or groups can run on the machine. More than a User Code tracking feature, limits can be placed on different kinds of output (color/B&W mode, copy or print, etc.)

Got it and thanx however I was hoping for something a little beefier than PPDM, where a user could see all of the folders on the server and then deposit the documents there as searchable .pdf's. I'll admit I'm a novice with PPDM, can PPDM do this?

I did the 48 minute bit and picked up a few tips, however I still have one additional question. Can a user scan directly to thier server folders or does the file go to the clients PPDM and then reside in a folder to be later moved to the server. I'm thinking no but I just have to ask, and another question is when scanning to the server, would I need one or two licenses? Thanx in advance!

Try this: Instead of browsing from the copier to set the path use Web Image Monitor to manually enter the path, user name and password. For some reason this works with Windows 7 when nothing else will. Also using the IP address instead of the computer name in the path seems to work.

It really depends on the user requirements and volume. If they need more robust paper-handling capabilities or advanced finishing and are above 5,000 per month in total volume, I step them up to the 30ppm model. If they run a lower volume with a basic configuration, I let them know that the lower-end model will meet their needs & handle their volume.

These are all very interesting comments. Not sure if anyone has seen the videos and new interface on the color systems. Watch those videos on youtube and see yes that is a cool interface but is it really practical? From talking with others this is a very confusing non-friendly user interface compared to the previous MX color series. I think this is going to hurt this color series in the long run. The real challenge comes when there are MX units in an account then add this Aries series. Or...

Very good points Art. The only print production (as some would call it) would be 85, 95, 110ppm. But these are more large departmental units. Mostly it is the 85ppm that is being pushed. There are only a few major players when you get higher than that. The very low end has always been a issue for them. The only item would be the AR-208 unit but that little Ricoh desktop will blow that away. Then there is the issue that some of these low end units can only be purchased from a distributor that...

I was thinking that DDF could create searchable pdfs that could be searched using windows search or google search. What I'm really looking for is a solution that would present the user with 3-6 fields that would be tagged to the scanned document and using a search/database documents could be retreived. What are you guys selling for these needs?

Braxtoq....those features may blow the end user away but when they are rarely used what good are they. In a demo that can be impressive just like the retractable keyboard. However 9 times our of 10 those features although are very cool will never be used. These units are a tough sell compared to the previous MX color series.
