Re: Need HELP! Kyocera Color A3 question
Top three points I make when against Kyocera. #1. Take them color samples from your device and any Kyocera because the color output is sub par on all units. If you don’t have access to one look in your crm for an account you co-exist with Kyocera in. Or the next time you have a knock out make some samples and keep them in a binder. If color quality is important to the customer it will be a win. Another point is showing them you get what you pay for, meaning 3 tier color is what they have...

Copystar/Kyocera 7052ci and 8052ci are still current models as the 7353ci and 8353ci were just released. same goes the the 70/80ppm mono's. not sure when they will get discontinued but we can still order them as of today.

I'm on this program at home. He was getting regular shipments of ink that he didn't order. You'd think that would be a clue. Technically, when someone cancels our maintenance contract, the toner in the unit becomes unfunded. We have every right to go and remove it. No one ever does but the unused toner has not been paid for.

Re: Ricoh & Epson = "perfect together" NOT!
They are never going to get their act together. I spoke with Jim Corridi at the CDA meeting several months ago and he told me big things were coming down the pipeline very soon because he agreed it would be hard to upgrade 3406WD systems with a 3406WD system. He also, however, acted like the Epson was going to be the latest and greatest thing for all of us that sell wide format. Not sure why since we don't typically mess with the ink jet machines. You can find the Epson's extremely cheap...

Re: Ricoh & Epson = "perfect together" NOT!
Wide Format is in a big transition right now, I know KIP is no longer going to be putting any R&D into monochrome printing anymore. Its all color from this point forward, I know Oce (or CSA) is thinking the same way. I can't speak for Ricoh but at this point why would you put any money into it. Ink jet is not the answer ether so the Epson deal in not going to get you into too many doors. If the KIP 800 series is priced right (somewhere in the $25K-30K area) a lot of them will be going...

Re: Five Reasons Why I'm Stoked About the New Ricoh SP8400DN Printer
No, we are not doing any of those agreements with our MFP's. With the printer the device billing would not include the drum, or fuser. Client would pay for those. Device billing is a practical maintenance agreement for the new A3 ink based MFP's. Epson will be launching their 100ppm color device shortly. The only consumables is the print head and the ink. It's rumored that the print head will be warranted for 3 years. In addition the print head is very costly. The idea would be to charge...

Re: Five Reasons Why I'm Stoked About the New Ricoh SP8400DN Printer
Client Pro's: Lower purchase or lease price for hardware Faster print speed than laser based vs same segment ink vs laser Unlimited pages No overage billing No unpredicted costs with overages Less downtime than laser Client Cons: Quality of prints or copies may not be equal to laser (does not matter if prints or copies stay in house) Print Head cost Ink cost may be higher than color laser, however that may be off-set by the lower purchase price Anyone care to add?

Had a conference call with Epson Monday afternoon. They said the ended up with a 1 year warranty on the print heads but you can purchase an extended warranty for something like $250/yr.? I didn't write that down because the only thing that matters to me is what gets passed on to the customer and manufacturers warranties are seldom passed on. Epson Ink Process advantages: No heat so no heat related issues...no fuser, no cooling fan, no warm-up. Consumes 50% less power No drum or developer so...

Re: Kyocera finally put's out a low volume A4 Color
Yes I have sold a couple of these. For the price these are fantastic. My service manager is impressed which is hard to do. Dual side scanning is a definite selling point. The cost per page is going to be higher of course. I would say in the .015 black and white and .11 color to be safe (depending on your market of course). Not as good as say the 6535 per say but the machine is less than half the cost. If the run more than a couple thousand a month I would move them up to the 6535cidn. Let me...

Re: A4 Page Volumes
The most important question to ask is "how much do you copy 11x17"? If the answer is none, then the next question is "how often do you print 11x17"? When the answer is quite often, well A3 is then a no brainer, however if the answer is rarely, then I'll bundle an 11x17 laser or ink printer. Based on under 10K per month, A4 will save the customer on the TCO over the term of a 5 year lease.

Re: Memjet Color Printers to the Rescue?
This is pretty impressive, but has been around for several years. There have to be significant issues that have prevented adoption. I suspect that clogged nozzles are a really expensive problem for intermittent use machines, and imagine the level of ink wasted keeping them fresh. Folks throw a fit about a $600 print head for a Canon plotter and it's guaranteed for a year. I see a limited market for this.

This was an article from the NY times over the weekend! The "R" version of the ComColor is the flat cost-per-copy version. If you have a non "R" version then you are paying for your ink and service separately.

Dean: I've placed 8 of these units, have also placed a couple with this configuration. Ricoh W3601 w/Scanner, table stand and Espon 7700. I've done this when scan2email and scan2folder is more important than printing and the end user expressed the need to print or copy in color. We've been able to setup a hotfolder and when a scanned file is placed there we have a program that then sends that file to be printed. It's more expensive than the Ink wide format MFP's but offers much more bang for...

Re: Toshiba's Eco MFP. An industry first!
The Eraser unit does not actually remove any toner from the page. The special blue toner or ink turns transparent by chemical process when heat is applied. There is no waste toner bottle. This is possibly why the same piece of paper can only be erased 6 times. Estimates are for 50% reduction in CO2 compared to a conventional MFP. The Eraser unit requires no additional consumables. The e306LP (the Eco MFP) is about the same price as a regular e306. The extra cost is for the Eraser unit. One...

Re: JP 8000 Printing Borders
From: Jim Stocker Sent: 5/3/2002 12:13 PM Just a little correction. The drums for the JP8000 ARE different than the JP5000 (an ink saving scraper system being one of the more beneficial enhancements). You have to program a TCII to take either or, not both. I have the same problem with the drums. It seems Ricoh is importing A3 sized drums, not Ledger. This would account for the difference in image area along the horizontal. The only current fix, TSC is aware of this, is to replace the A3...

However, Ricoh has never been able to produce a CPC sheet, like they do for the other models, in fact, thay say one does not exist. Standard, on the other hand, does have one that they distribute to their dealers, that I have since found. It is attached. Not good news, though, as...

Re: Vellum
Looking in the Service Management Guide, the only types of media not supported are: Coated paper, Ink-Jet paper and envelopes. As Vellum designates the type of surface of the media, instead of smooth, I would say yes, it will. I've certainly not had any problems with running vellum finished media through the 3800C. Just a note concerning transparencies to finish off, use Folex X356 or X355. Hope that helps. Cheers, Jim.

Re: Need Help
Jim, Thanx, I have visited the customer and set the SP setting to a lighter master and have the dup print at full speed. Is there a way to also have the systems always make an economy master? I have spoken to Ray Bauer @ Ricoh, another possible for the low ink cover is the fact that we are using an 11 x 17 master for every print. I have tried to find the settings for the auto master cut to 8.5 x 11 but can't. Another other hints. Art

Re: Need Help
Art, I think you'll find that you need the Black Drum 30-S #205698 to get an 8.5"x11" Master. Your looking at $600+ which would take years to pay for in ink/master savings not to mention the inconvenience of having to switch cylinders back and forth depending on original size. I think you will also find that the end users will not comply and just continue to use the 11x17 drum for 8.5x11 copies rather than hassle with the change.
