Re: Gifts, Trips, Prizes, for Copiers "Lawful or Could Land You in Jail?"

I think its a grey area. I've seen plenty of times where I've offered a TV or IPAD to someone and the owner tells the person who I worked with to keep it. Sometimes I have seen where the "company" keeps it....aka the owner takes it home with him.

But if a purchasing agent for a corporation takes that gift home, I'm thinking that agent could be in jeopardy of losing their job, right?

I would say so in a government situation l, absolutely, but I doubt much stink is made in private corporate business. I’ve seen it play out so many different ways I think it’s situational with each company.

I hear ya, it seems like I have everyone and their Mother giving **** (TV's Golf Clubs, Trips) when buying or leasing a copier this month. Nothing is FREE and peeps need to realize that. But some are consumed by their own greed

Yes you are correct. The blinders go on when something is “given” to them. I’d be lying if i said I didn’t do it but the customer and everyone involved knows it’s there and listed on the proposal the whole time. I use it strategically with accounts I want and switch back and forth with things to keep competitors on their toes. Sometimes it’s a tv, sometimes it’s An iPad, sometimes it’s football tickets l, gift cards etc. it’s never the same for a particular machine or vertical market.

If its out in the open and done as a promotion as mentioned above as being part of the proposal there is no problem. If its done in the dark by the sales rep or if the customer demands a kick pack as a condition of doing business there is a serious problem.

But that gift should go the company or the owner of the company, not an employee of the company, correct?

There's an interesting thread about an RBS sales person that person accepted $3,500 from a copier sales person so that RBS could win that bid of 73 copiers. Which raises in interesting question about gifts, trips and prizes to a person that works for a corporation if they buy their copiers from xyz dealer. It's my understanding that any gift, trip or prize is then the property of the corporation and not the person (decision maker). Yet, we find some dealers openly engaging in offering these...
