I do find the Ricoh's to be very reliable. What they need is speed though, IMO. Have worked with a steel maker on some projects and he has 4 big Oce's that run all day long, 5 days a week. He loved the 3406 but said he would have to buy about 8 or 10 of them do the same work the 4 high speed Oce's run. He wouldn't bite on the 7140's either.

Depends on the size of the account. My big accounts......say companies with more than 100 employees......the decision maker is the Director Of I.T. in every case. Perhaps the IT Director runs it by his upline but I deal directly with IT. The mid-sized customers it tends to be a management level person other than the owner like a GM or CFO. In my small clients it tends to be the owner.

It depends on the value proposition I want to bring forward. If I am going with the whole "we'll save you money" pitch, I'll start with a CFO or Director of Finance. If it's regarding document management or a fleet replacement, I'll start with IT Director/IT Manager and go from there. Often the same Decision Maker is not around 3-5 years from now, so you will have to remind the new DM about the extra freight costs they incurred with their present copier vendor. Plus this time around you will take care of that hassle and expense for them by a line item in your new quotation.

The MP1515, 161, 171 are incredible engines, they just run and run without a hicup, I have a few of these that are running 3-5K every month and one was just traded in that had over 200K on the meter. It's not a money maker for the sales person, however it fills the gap when you are replacing a fleet and need a few lv devices that can print, scan, copy and fax. However, they still need a reason for us to sell the B (&W) 35cpm machines. Once they get the cost of the black toner cost down, the 35cpm, in my opinion, will become obsolete. You can easily cost justify the 3800CMF vs the AF1035 with all the extra you get. Just the cost of the Black is too high right now.

And it is an additional option for the Saddle Stitch Finisher (That finisher has a $10,500 List and the folder has a $5700 list). Compare that to a $5200 list on our SR860 and if you want to get really carried away the list on the SR85 Booklet Maker is only $9750 and will be available for the 2090,2105 soon. (Though I don't think it can "Z" fold. Another consideration is that you can buy a folding unit that will do ALL of your folding off line for less than $3000.00. That's my 2 cents worth!

I didn't check the spec's, but from what I have experienced it does not slow down the speed of the copier. But I have had some customers complain that it cannot Z fold to the edge on the last fold. Canon designed it to leave a 6mm gap for some reason and it cannot be adjusted to compensate. Most companies that have interest in using the Z fold to insert ledger documents into letter spec books are used to have a "clean" edge fold. Art: The 8031 does have the IP711 Print controller option along with the Fiery X3e option. Prints up to 140lb index, 12x18 full bleed, scan-to-e:mail, Tiff, Jpeg and Pdf scanning. The most impressive items is the quality and the booklet making finisher w/saddle stitch(2-3 hole punch also!) My dealership doesn't have any CL7000CMF's in stock yet, so I can't really compare. Personally, the 8031 has much better quality than the 3800CMF, but hasn't been around long enough to test reliability!

We have a couple out that seem to be doing just fine. Neither one is in a high booklet usage location so not a test for durability. FYI - Remember that with the 2105, the SR90 is your only bookletmaker option...the SR860 won't go on the 2105.

Well, there are a couple of ways to look at it. The fact of the matter is, the Canon dealer probably doesn't have a very good handle on the situation. And if the client is running a high percentage of 11x17, then they are going to lose out in service and supplies. We charge 2 clicks for 11x17. And, although I may lose a deal every now and then, by not being close enough to make a difference, we aren't going to lose our pants on mismanaging service. We are installing our first Ricoh Aficio 2090 WITH SR90 Booklet maker today. It is subject to running the clients job twice. That's two runs of 125 11x17 booklets, totaling 15 sheets each, 60 to 64 images including cover. This could be a good success story that was up against Xerox and OCE. Got my fingers crossed, it ran well when we set it up in the warehouse after getting through a couple of set up glitches that were probably just first time issues...

Answer Yes, it is possible to crease fold a document without selecting 2-point staple. The output will be a creased document with no stapling. The bad news is that even though the system is connected and printing, my plan to store the tabbed sections individually and print the job as a whole to the doc server still did not work. I thought that I had worked around my problems by using DTB to combine the multiple sections and send them to the doc server as a single job and then apply print settings. Since you're getting folded output, I assume you have the correct finisher, but just for the record, the booklet finisher is the SR3020 for the MP C4500 SPF. If you choose 2 center staples in the driver and the output is on a single sheet, you will get folded, but unstapled documents. This is the only way to get folded without stapling. It should be impossible to get multiple pages to fold without stapling.
