Re: 5 Questions for HP about the Acquisition of Samsung Printer Business Unit
I had the time at lunch today to listen to a recorded webex meeting from Photizo that offered up speculation on why HP bought Samsung. Here's my takeaways: Patents, more than 6,500 of them 1,500 world class engineers The eventual replacement of all canon marking engines with Samsung Thus, as there was much hype about the purchase of Samsung, I don't think was for the laser based engines, but more for the patents, the engineers, and the laser engines for HP printers. In addition, HP will now...

Re: CPC rates vs Machine Cost with Customers
Wow, agreed the way some people think about overages in screwy. When I'm presented with .008 to my .0125, that means the difference per copy is .00425 per month. The client is averaging 5,000 pages per month. That means my service costs $21.25 more dollars per month, or less that $1.00 per day. Let me ask you, have I not proved that our service is worth the difference? We fall back to the value points. What blows my mind is when the difference is only .002 and the client is only doing 3K per...

Re: CPC rates vs Machine Cost with Customers
From a small town in South Africa and a technician .The cpc defines the type of company you are dealing with as a costumer or company shopping for a copier any sales person or copier company that has a lower cpc is normally going to be the worse pick . A low cpc quote is not a good thing and these companies will often escalate the cost per page and service contract ,they will have a bigger sales team then technical and this loss they are running at the undercutting of cpc to win deals is...

Re: The Samsung to HP Transition.
We did a HP webinar last week on the transition and it seems to me that HP doesn't have a clue how BTA copier dealers operate. I think they think BTA dealers are going to sell HP branded service packs and then chase reimbursements for service calls and parts from HP. If that is the model they plan on having us dealers use they will fall flat on their faces.

Re: DEX Just Bought by Staples
I do not know anything Dex other than they are the USA's largest independent copier dealer. I am sure the acquisition was not cheap and that cost has to be worked into the selling price. I am sure Dex has some incredible recurring revenues and that must have been very appealing to Staples. Dex sells Konica Minolta, Canon, Kyocera and KIP. I do not think these dealers will appreciate the new competition a year from now as Staples expands Dex's footprint. Dex prided themselves on getting the...

Re: HP should Buy Xerox
I am deeply concerned about the race to the bottom with A4 product. A4 product certainly gets better everyday and some salespeople say it is just as good as A3...maybe true... except for your commissions. If you like Kraft dinner or Ramen noodles, downgrade your customers from A3 to A4. Let us not forget one of the largest A4 players out there is Lexmark. Lexmark is a 100% Chinese owned company called NineStar based in Guangdong, China. If you cheer MAGA, you cannot cheer Lexmark. God knows...

Re: HP should Buy Xerox
Appreciate the comments. However, your arguments regarding A4 vs. A3 pertain to what’s good for you. Industries which are going through disruption or when an industry’s particular product or its services become less valuable to those once dependent on them. The disease of Product-Centric thinking will infect those with a stubbornness to modify. It is not up to those who sell a product or service to determine its value. Its value is determined by those who buy the product or service.

Re: HP should Buy Xerox
There is little to no margin in A4. Folks who want those products are just going to buy on-line. Let them. Best bet is focus on areas where you can still make money. Let other people chase the race to the bottom stuff.

Re: Four Bad Leasing Clauses I Ran Across This Week
Step Leases. A previous sales rep signed a 60 months term when a new sales rep comes in and upgrades the customer to a newer copier at a lower cost including a big free copy block at 36 months. The sales rep tells the customer your costs will never increase as long as you renew every 36 months and you will keep getting newer technology. Sounds too good to be true but many buyers fall for it as they see the now benefit and not the later obligation. Of course, the Balance of Payments is rolled...

Just a heads up on that tray.......if the customer bumps into the tray there is a very good chance that the metal tray will fall on your customer's feet. I had it happen to me. To see what I mean mount the tray on your 6700 and push the tray forward in the center......the two hooks will disengage and the tray will come crashing down. I came up with a very simple modification to this tray that will eliminate the possibility of this ever happening. The addition of a couple of self adhesive...
