Re: 57 Days of Selling "Day 44"
Love it Art! I had a day of running around with a networking luncheon followed by a training for a new device that I sold earlier in the month and stole from Sharp. I was extremely late to the party with this deal but they already had a canon that was very old and decided they wanted another canon and on top of that wanted someone to deal with local over Sharp and Ricoh direct. Then I was walking into the grocery store on the way home and got a call from a person I quoted a machine to about...

Re: Nsi Autostore
Personally, I have not been successful in selling Auto Store so I'm probably not much help. However, I would ask why it would be necessary to bundle these things. If I was fortunate enough to be in a situation where the customer sees the value of the software and this criteria is necessary, I would propose a basic workflow and 3rd party DMS integration and Sharepoint integration would be professional services at a billable rate or discounted block of time.

This seems wrong on so many levels.... 16,000 printers? 5 machines per site?? 10 year contract??? I feel as if a DMS / workflow solution would have saved them so much more.

Re: MPS and Linux HELP!
So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

So this effort is eliminate "carbon copied" work orders for service techs? What is wrong with the print "workflow" when the software application that generates a service form cannot be configured to print two of the same item? This is not an easy "printer-centric" fix. The application needs to either carry this information to the printer as part of the job or you must have some print-based software (Planet Press/Dataworks) telling the printer what to do. At this point, what other problems...

Re: Who really needs 250 GB in a Konica Minolta Hard Drive!
Almost no idea what you are talking about. In my experience, people who have workflows that would benefit from storing images to the copier also need a Fiery controller. In those types of worflows with high-res color images, its quite easy to wind up with very large files. I've seen files stored on the Fiery that were more than 1GB for a single file. So, in those specific types of workflow, yes, a larger hard drive is not only useful but necessary. For general office work, there is generally...

Re: Image Quality Not a Main Criteria in MFP Purchase
Vince has some excellent points but I remember when selling Word Processing Systems that the highest quality available was a Diablo 630 with a Steel Printwheel and Carbon Ribbon, then came laser printers and then the highest acceptable quality became a laser copy. The bar was greatly LOWERED to accept laser quality (nothing more than a copy). Perhaps what we're seeing is the lowering of expectations as to what is acceptable (production printing notwithstanding). Scanning speeds vs output...

Re: How do you feel about the industry?
Ive always said "the last person I want to sell a copier to is one that is currently looking". It is best to go out and find prospects that you can help and they don't realize they have a problem until you point out a better way to do things. Those deals are win-win. The customer wins with lower total costs and improved productivity/workflow and you win because those deals are seldom price wars or even competitive.

Yoda One of my previous comp plans was so bad that I had no chance of upgrading an existing lease until the lease was a minimum of six months to the end of lease expiration. Even at six months, the money I would have made would have been pitiful. Thank goodness the comp plan changed, but I'm sure that there are others who had a similar comp plan and they have to wait unless they figured out a new workflow, a solution or a feature that would allow them to upsell the customer. Re: B2C defined
Correct. B2C means "Black to Color." This term was created about 5 years ago to designate the "next big thing" in the industry, which was the move from black & white output to color output in the office. Sort of along the lines of "A-to-D" for the Analog to Digital transition. I think the results of the last few years are proof that this revolution has happened (and is still happening). And to re-iterate what Eddie 2 Times said, Ricoh color MFPs can be used in a B2C environment...
