Re: 57 Days of Selling "Day 44"
Love it Art! I had a day of running around with a networking luncheon followed by a training for a new device that I sold earlier in the month and stole from Sharp. I was extremely late to the party with this deal but they already had a canon that was very old and decided they wanted another canon and on top of that wanted someone to deal with local over Sharp and Ricoh direct. Then I was walking into the grocery store on the way home and got a call from a person I quoted a machine to about...

Re: Desktop Shortcut to Scanned Images via store to HDD in scanner
Its pretty strait forward. Default the scanner to Store File to HDD. At the PC create a desktop shortcut to Web Image Monitor. Have customer click on Print Job/Store File -------> Document server. They will be able to download the document. The real problem though is you are encountering a lazy IT guy. Any IT guy worth his salt will help you set up scan to folder.

John, The PrintCopy Tool compares pretty favorably to Plotworks. I attached two documents to this post. The Product Support Guide lists differences between the two products. The PowerPoint has screen shots of all the settings in PrintCopy Tool. I hope this helps.

Re: Nsi Autostore
JS, I am doing this for many accounts. The value prop for the customer is the ability to browse to folder from the MFP. I mention none of the other features unless asked. We install to the customers server, I build in 3 hours of pro services and then bundle the entire cost in the system. My selling advantage is that with my system you can browse to folder from the MFP easily. Art

Maven , What I tell my customers and when I'm out with sales reps is it's all about getting things done in less steps. I'm in the legal vertical so time is money and everyone has an hourly billable. Right now here's the average user scan: 1.) User walks up to MFP and logs in 2.) Finds their name via LDAP or enters manually and then enters client and matter 3.) Selects Scan to email 4.) Sends PDF to their email 5.) Walks back to their desk 6.) Finds Canon Scan 00034789* (or doesn't because...

Re: MPS and Linux HELP!
So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

Re: Savin SPC221SF and scan to email
Question How do I use Scan to Folder on Windows? Answer Documents scanned using your device can be sent over a network to a shared folder. To use Scan to Folder, follow these steps: Note: To send scanned documents to a shared folder on a computer, the correct user name, password, and directory must be set. Files can be sent to folder destinations on the following operating systems: Windows 2000 / Windows XP / Windows Server 2003 / Windows Vista Mac OS X Destinations must be registered via...

Re: Need some help ---Scan Router for Vista 64 Bit
I am having trouble scanning to Vista with the 816mf and it doesn't even need ScanRouter, it is serverless. I posted the problem and got some helpful info as you have about possible firewall or antivirus interference. I also heard that you must set a password in Vista for shared folder - no choice - but I am not sure if that is true yet, need to get back to the customer's office soon to check. Also was told Vista Home was not scanner friendly but there was no explaination for that.

Re: NEED HELP QUICK --- SINKING SHIP
Ouch, that's a tough one. If it's really a proprietary system, there's probably no chance of a converter being available. What's the actual file format? Does it save in an an autocad format? or HPGL? Secondly, why do you need it to be PDF? If it's for printing to a ricoh wide format, could they use a PDF print driver to drop the file into a folder for the Rioch to grab it from?

Re: Need some help ---Scan Router for Vista 64 Bit
Don't drive yourself nutso with ScanRouter. It was a dog when it was supported. Your 15cpm supports Scan to folder and is much easier to configure and maintain. And 64bit Vista? forgettaboutit. Vista Home is not scan friendly because the permissions are so hard to find. But it can be done. If you decide to go to the dark side (Mac) it supports SMB (scan to folder) also.

Re: Scan on MP171spf and Print on SPC420DN
You can have it scan to a folder and then have a program or script monitor that folder and tell it to print to the printer. I don't think it can be done via email unless you are using the C420DN-KP. There has been alot of discussions about this on the forums as of late. Can anyone provide the exact solution that monitors the scan folder and then sends the document to the printer?

Got it and thanx however I was hoping for something a little beefier than PPDM, where a user could see all of the folders on the server and then deposit the documents there as searchable .pdf's. I'll admit I'm a novice with PPDM, can PPDM do this?

Re: Digi Doc Flow vs NSI
I did the 48 minute bit and picked up a few tips, however I still have one additional question. Can a user scan directly to thier server folders or does the file go to the clients PPDM and then reside in a folder to be later moved to the server. I'm thinking no but I just have to ask, and another question is when scanning to the server, would I need one or two licenses? Thanx in advance!

Re: PPDM from Ricoh, Questions
My experience has been that setting up the server application so its available in the display of the MFP is a disaster. Also once its set up on the MFP its a very slow process to make selections and enter data on the mfp touchscreen. Very clunky at the mfp. I've given up on it and now just load the workstation software when the customer has a need. Its better to just set it up on a workstation and point the software to the customer's regular scan folder inbox. The desktop software is great.

Re: Q. How does your company handle networking charges?
My rule is, if they need more training, or something wrong or inconvenient with the way I set up the print scan, I'll make it right, no charge. If they add a workstation and want it configured,if they changed their router/switch, decide (after 60 days or so) they need a different configuration, or some O/S related problem, that is chargeable. A case in point, a customer called me saying his can scan to folder icon has disappeared from his desktop. I suggested that the cleanup wizard has...

Re: Q. How does your company handle networking charges?
I think we all struggle with where to draw the line. The point I make with my Sales force, as well as with my customers is if you come in one day and you can't scan to email, but it was working fine yesterday the customer perceives this as "my MFD is broken" because one or more of the functions have stopped working. But most of the time nothing on the MFD is broken. The configuration is the same as it has been for the last 6 months (or 2 years). What most often has changed is something on...

Re: PDF Direct Print
Update: To use the "scan to copy" feature> In Web Image Monitor add a destination with Protocol FTP where the server is the IP Address of the device. Under folder authentication use admin w/ password of admin. With this, you can scan to an archive folder and the "scan to copy" destination and acheive 2 things at once. You can also scan from a black & white MFP that has color scanning to a color printer for poor mans color copying.

Re: Scan to folder and Server 2008
Check the firewall settings on the 2008 Server. Sometimes an update will reset them. If the 2008 Server sits on their LAN with a hardware firewall between it and the internet, then you could turn OFF the firewall as a test and see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't then its not the firewall, and if it does you could open up the SMB ports and test scanning to folder again.

Re: Prisim Doc record
We have used DocRecord internally at our dealership for the last two years. I like it; I find it pretty easy to administer and our end users think it's intuitive and friendly. I can't speak to integration with your specific platform. But, for automation it's just a matter of setting up a process with a watch folder through DocRecord's Automation Server tool, and programming a one-touch button on your MFP that scans into the watch folder. PS - we're a Konica Minolta dealer. :-)

Re: SP431DN will it..
So, I we installed the SP431DN with four paper trays the other day. I was there on Friday to set up the paper trays, configure the printer setting and test the system. We did a run of 2,500 envelopes with an MS word merge for addressing. We finished the job in 75 minutes with no wrinkles, we did have several misfeeds, however I'm blaming that on me not knowing how many envelopes to put in each tray. We not able to fit and entire box pf 500 however we were able to fit about 250-300 at a time.

Re: Can the new Canon systems do this?
By a Nested Folder, do you mean scan to a single sub-folder? "In a folder hierarchy, Nesting refers to storing a folder inside another folder. You can nest folders inside of folders ad infinitum, but it becomes more unwieldy to retrieve them." http://www.pcmag.com/encyclope...ation&i=54516,00.asp All Toshiba product can easily scan as deep as you require into a sub-folder via SMB. The Network Scan path gets more complex but there is no limit.

Re: What is the future for DigiDoc Flow, eCopy and NSI?
The Toshiba approach to this would be to create a "One Touch" template to scan directly to the target folder. Current eBridge X Operating Systems allows you to navigate a network to find a specific "nested" folder but that can take a few minutes to complete. I agree with Anders that MFPs have limited computational power. The conversion of scanned documents from one format to another is faster processed by a Network PC. Can anyone comment on the length of time in seconds it would take a...

What type of user is it and how heavy is their usage???? Do they have a service contract with you to cover that Plotbase server? Did you offer them a contract on the server? You may be able to sell them on the benefits of the scan to folder capabilities and the fact that the new model no longer needs that extra PC running Plotbase. Beyond that I'd say get another PC and reload plotbase but they need to be aware that the technology is moving forward and plotbase will not be supported forever.

Re: Windows 8 Compatability
FYI. To be technical, Windows 8 introduces SMB V3, improving security features among other things. http://www.windowsecurity.com/...SMB-Connections.html Although supposedly backwards compatible with SMB V1 & V2 found on most current MFPs, the transition is not quite as seamless as Microsoft hoped for. SMB V3 will likely require firmware updates from all of the copier manufacturers to be compatible. I have no idea on the Universal Print drivers until you try them. It is only a short time...

Re: P4P email hacked!
Interesting... Did you find anything of interest in the sent folder? I wonder what he did to get it blacklisted. The downside of internet security is that you have to rely on other people to uphold your security. This could have been something as simple as you having an account on another website. If that site has weak security and unencrypted passwords you're screwed. I'm still receiving emails as normal, btw.

Re: Scan Router Lite and XP
From: Jay Sent: 9/6/2002 6:21 AM I think that is correct for W2K also. Maybe all operating systems. If you want to route a scan to a network folder you must configure the path in the SR Link client properties, and it must be running on the client machine. It can not be done using the Admin Utility.

From: Lee Sent: 9/8/2002 10:34 PM If you select Run as Service, (Option 3) you cannot route scans to a network drive when setting it to Save as a windows file. When you try to browse to the folder, you will only see the local drives on the machine, not the network (mapped) drives. Run as a service would be the preferred way to run it, as the workstation does not have to be actually logged on for ScanRouter to work. However, none of them offer a perf/scoring attachment, although they do offer a stand alone unit that does just that. I've been dealing them for close to nine years now, and they do offer great support, sales and service. MBM is still the best bet for an all in one application. Jim Stocker

Re: Can Scan Router Lite do an FTP push as a pdf?
I can take SR Lite and put the document in a folder on a hard drive somewhere (anywhere) on the local network. FTP (which you can't do with SR) would be able to send it anywhere on the local network or WAN based upon an IP Address. Using FTP, you could send the scan overseas if you wanted to. Most network admins shy away from FTP as much as possible and seem to like the scanrouter setup much better. FTP is considered a security risk on the network. We also sell Konica, which is big on FTP...

Re: Doc Server Scan Router
There's no way to name the file, but there is a way to kind of workaround it: You can define some of your senders as job types, for example, create a sender named Purchase Order. When you select that as a sender, your filename becomes Purchase Order_XXXXX.XXX. Another way to do it would be to create destinations that have the wording that you want on the front of the file. All of the destinations could point to the same folder. You'll need to go to the SR Admin utility and look under...
