Panasonic has been out of the industry for about 3-4 years now. There is no parts or R&D from them. There are only 3 distributors in the US...one on the west, east and midwest. All of their support people have taken other jobs with the distributors or in other areas. It was very frustrating dealing with the middle man because many times they did not know the answers and there was no other resources. In addition, Ricoh eliminated the Major Accounts Bid and Pricing Group in West Caldwell, NJ. All the staff has been laid off and the responsibilities is said to be transferred to Malvern, PA (IKON HQ). Not sure how this helps the Independent Dealers with winning Major Account opportunities, especially against IKON (I mean RBS).

I could see companies that do a lot of business with governments using them. For instance, I have a client that works with prison systems throughout the USA. They occasionally have to respond to RFPs that require the proposal documents to be printed on paper with a minimum % of recycled content. It would also probably play well in markets that are big on "being green". Think the West Coast, Colorado, Austin & the like.

Just to give you an idea of the kind of variation there is, I went to the BTA compensation Survey of 2007. According to their survey, the median compaensation for a salesrep with 6+ years experience was $127,500/yr with a maximum of $422,377 for a rep in the West vs. $54,000/yr. and $104,000 for a rep in the Southeast. There is a significant difference in the cost of living which effects both the employee and the employer and therefore also effects compensation.

I have run into xeorox and of course Savin. I run into a pricing issue with Savin...they always discount. My price was higher but product knowledge is how we got the sale. We were only a few hundred higher. Kip and Oce are always around on the deals here in West Palm Beach, FL.

not sure completely on the interfacing specifically with Aficio 470's, but CopyGuard has a wide format copy systems manager that is supposed to be able to download info to the PC.
