Re: Will outside Sales Rep's go away?

It will be interesting to see what the manufacturers allow and don't allow. As of right now they are still very against e-Commerce and listing things on websites etc. I can only speak for my experience with Canon, Sharp and Brother, but they do not want things done via the web.

Re: Will outside Sales Rep's go away?

In a way its already gone to the internet and away from the outside sales rep........at least for stand alone printers and A4 devices. If all someone needs is a printer or an A4 to be used for basic printing, scanning and copying.....face it, they really don't need us already. If you've been at this a long time you probably remember the days when you sold a lot of A4 machines to small offices. 20 years ago if you needed an A4 you called a copier dealer. Those days are gone for the most part.

@fisher I agree almost completely, but to play devils advocate I will say that we are selling more desktop printers now than we ever have before. Mostly brother, as we became a partner a couple years ago. I think people are looking for reps to show them a better way than just buying another HP off amazon, but the rep still has to have a higher level conversation with the client...not just hey buy your printers from us.

Re: Will outside Sales Rep's go away?

We definitely are not out chasing them but we are much more versed talking about them and the benefits of buying them from us rather than the big box store. It has led to some very nice MPS accounts for us this past year. I don’t have a final count but I believe we added about 3 million new clicks this year from printer sales. Not breaking any records by any means but adding an extra 50k or so of revenue never hurts. And thanks to brother for having a minimum advertised price online for the...

It has to be laser and heavy duty like that Ricoh you’re talking about. Brother has inkjet and Sharp has small stuff. They are expanding the department so volumes will go up. So it has to be heavy duty

We are still a dealer but we have not sold a LEXMARK in quite a while. They eliminated the MPS Elite program we were own, or at the least removed us from that program. I never had anyone ask about the security due to the Chinese ownership but it’s a great point. Honestly, I have found their support, to us at least, to be very subpar. Our support from brother has been phenomenal the last 2 years. Most of my printer clients are replacing the lexmarks with the brothers as fast as they can.

So some clarification first. PaperCut absolutely does support Mac. In fact, it is the only cost recovery/print control solution that I know of that actually installs in an all Mac environment. (Server and Client) It also is the only solution I know of that installs in a Linux environment. So both of your issues are solved with PaperCut. I included the install guides for Mac and Linux to get you started.

Had a demo years ago on a fax machine. Had a big wheel from corporate wanting to do a ride along with a rep for the day. Customer wanted to see quality and asked one of their customers to send a test fax. As all the admin complained about the speed, the corp guy explained that a very detailed fax would take more time because of memory issues. As everyone crowded aroud the fax to innspect, a very vivid porn image was reproduced with striking detail. We made the sale

Found this on the web today:: By Pavel Alpeyev Nov. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Orbis Funds, the asset manager that opposed takeover offers by Warren Buffett and Citigroup Inc., rejected Canon Inc.’s 730 million euro ($1.1 billion) bid to buy unprofitable Dutch printer maker Oce NV as too low. Canon’s 8.60 euros-a-share offer “significantly undervalues” Oce’s assets, and Orbis doesn’t want to sell its stake of about 10 percent at that price, the Bermuda-based manager of $20 billion in assets said in a...

I was in my junior year of college and upon return from my 5:30am workout with the rest of my college baseball team, I laid down for a nap in my apartment until 7:45am Central time. After getting dressed and grabbing my things for my morning classes, I walked out to the living room and my brother was laying on the couch and told me a plane hit one of the towers of the World Trade Center in NYC. We faired pretty well in NH, just lost power for 6 hours, but our wood stove kept us warm. My old neighborhood (Gerritsen Beach) Brooklyn was devastated. My brother and my friend tell me that they each had 6 feet+ water in their basements. They say the whole neighborhood is under water. My brother had to wade through chest deep water just to make it home from work. Keep them in your prayers, it will be a while before they return to normal. Vince

If and only if you process the entire billing packet you may have a point. If you do the job of a Sales coordinator (Check the deal and paperwork for completeness and correctness) Billing administrator (Complete the funding detail sheet, send the deal to the lease company, confirm funding has hit, send off docs) Cut any buyout /payoff checks and deliver them to the customer. Store equipment for stream of payment deals, then package, load and deliver equipment to old lease company. Then you...

Here's my thinking and I should have elaborated a little more and should have been more detailed. 1000 pages per month @ .05 profit per page = $50, minus cost of giving away 500 @ .05 = $25, net profit (based on .10) is $25 per month, per machine. Yeah, I goofed! However, I also though of this. With monthly billing or quarterly billing to add a monthly service charge of $25 (for processing paperwork, meter reads etc,), if this can be done you are back up to $50 per unit. The whole idea is to...

Are you looking at printing the actual form onto paper? or data onto preprinted forms or data on overlays that are stored on the printer? In short: is the form cut off or the data? if the data is cut off then you might need to look at HMI, VMI etc for the data. Often the data starts correctly on the left margin, but is actually to "big" to fit inside the right margin. basic PCL...

If that number of businesses includes resturants and retail, you have a tough row to hoe my friend. That stands for Business Equipment Quota Index which is a market quota index for B&W and Color MFP's, B&W and color printers, and Fax's. I've seen the 3100 a couple of times, haven't sat down with it in detail. First impressions are, Nice box, nice features.... Color is business-class ONLY. Canon rates the 3200 as business color, but I have several customers who are graphics shops who use it. This will not ever happen with the 3100. Its color print quality is much more like the 3006 than say a 6513. Strangely, the 3100 can print without having a print controller added. It uses a technology called UFR (ultra fast rendering) to...

Can you provide more detail on the scanning situation? Does the controller lock up once you select the Scan tab? Or is it when you go into scan to email/LDAP? As someone pointed out, there are about six patches for the E8000 that should be installed. As a separate note, there will be a new version of system software available that incorporates all of the patches and MS updates. Please contact your Ricoh ASM for a copy of it. It should help stabilize the E8000 operation.
