Sharp is much more desperate than Canon. Whatever the deal, I'm sure it was beyond anything a financially secure company like Canon would consider.

No money means no R&D. Sharp is getting destroyed in Canada. Since Konica Minolta purchased Pitney Bowes' imaging division (Sharp's largest dealer in Canada), they've been offering customers massive incentives to flip their Sharp gear into KM bizhubs. I think there's more value in Sharp's direct channel base customer list than the actual technology. I've always found the MX series to be lacking in quality and ease of use. Prices have come down on Tier 1 products which means Tier 2...

Art, I'm in Japan this week meeting with key clients and have asked this question to several. In typical fashion, no one wants to speculate on what will happen. Is this a good or bad sign? Is Sharp changing a good sign? If it doesn't is this bad, or does it mean it is continuing its commitment to our industry? Since the year 2000, 50% of Fortune 500 companies have fallen from its ranks--no longer considered leaders (by at least that standard). This is most often due leadership...

A little of news this week is that the US Dollar is growing stronger vs the Japanese Yen. When this has happened in the past Japanese copier manufacturers have decreased pricing here in the States. When you couple this with the Chinese tariffs that may go into effect this week, it could mean that our industry may not see price increases. Japanese manufacturers might just bite the bullet on the increases in order to keep boxes moving out of the plants. BTW, the dude in the picture, had just a...

Below is probably one of the most mis-understood printers (well not actually a printer) of our time. The Seri Print 25 was a really cool in-line attachment to the Ricoh duplicators. You would replace the Ricoh ink with Seri Ink, and then you'd be able to print on any gloss coatings. The Seri printer used a UV light to cure the ink on the gloss coat. Alas the Seri is no more and Ricoh is just about out of the duplicator industry now. Enjoy the threads from ten years ago this week! Konica...

The question I asked the most is where they were from, after getting a response I would then ask if they have a plotter or ask if they've ever seen a white board before. No I'm not. In the case of Formax, you would call them and they would give you the name of the Authorized Dealer and I'm assuming it would be the same case with Muratec since there are no dealer locators on their web sites. Here's an example, in my territory in which we are Authorized I can't remember the last time I received a lead. Some of the manufacturers sights are slanted to delivering...

Nice! I would like to contribute a few of my own predictions as well: Xerox will sell its MFP division to focus entirely on production equipment and business services. Toshiba Tec will not sell nor merge with Sharp. Toshiba is too much of a powerhouse in North America alone. Sorry for being the bearer of gloom & doom, but I think Czech is either being either overly-optimistic or things in the Great White North are just different than in the Southwest USA. Here are my predictions: Lease volume trends based on UCC filings from EDA show that 2015 placements have fallen by over 13,600 since 2013 (almost 10%) & are now at levels nearly equal to 2009 & 2010. Faced with increased competition for fewer units running less volume due to digitization, dealers...
