I received the email below from Deon (P4P Member) and agreed with Deon that this would be a great topic for discussion with our peers. Feel free to chime and post your thoughts. I was in the UAE a week ago and it seems that this industry is changing big time faster than i thpught. Im not too sure that we will be able to survive only selling copiers etc. Over the last year or so we have also added telecommunication/voip and CCTV. Art, I think the reports of our demise are greatly exaggerated. Yes, you will continue to see a reduction in printing and for sure copying, but "plummeting in 3 years" is hyperbole IMHO . The Ricoh & Toshiba, & Xerox reports are a continuing of the Big Crunch, a culling of the herd. That leaves more of the pie for those who are doing well. That's my $0.02 Vince McHugh

Understood, however we haven't had a major manufacturer drop out yet. In fact, Epson and HP are now targeting the A3 business model. Thus, less pages, more competition equals less profit. Will be interesting to see where all of this goes. You and I may be retired long before there is a BIG change

I actually came into the copier world from the typewrite world. Started my career with a thriving typewriter dealer. The company had a lock on government accounts in 1/3rd of the state and also did the typewriter repair work for Sears stores in half the state in addition to a ton of up and down the street business. I was primarily a technician at the time and saw the writing on the wall when one of my large school districts eliminated its 200+ typewriters in one fell swoop. Within 18 months...
