Re: A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Copier Demo/Appointment
I have one!! In downtown Princeton, NJ (right across the street from Princeton University). Had just demo'd a small Adler Royal 209 (boy was that unit a piece of garbage). Well, rolled the copier gurney into the back of the car. Pulled out and into traffic, stopped at the light, and being young and foolish, I gunned the gas pedal with the green light. The car went forward the copier gurney and copier wne backwards and landed on the street, seems like I forgot to close the hatch!! It was a...

Ricoh is absolutely no help. I hope someone from Ricoh reads this post. Who do you hire up there? They have absolutely no clue. Very disappointed. Much thanks to JasonR from RJ Young for your input. John

BTW, John and I spoke on the phone, he wasn't referring to my "what's the error?" post Error: Undefined usually indicates data corruption or communication loss. It is not usually a true "Error". In a true PS error, there is a problem with the PS code, in an Undefined error, there is usually either no code or garbage.

Re: Should you ever sell something for nothing?
I am just about....37 yrs young. Started with in 1993, SR year of high school part time servicing printers. After 2yrs of serving printers, married for 1 yr to my high school sweetheart I was envious of all the "copier reps" driving nice BMW's etc...I asked if I could start selling. When I first started selling in 1995 we carried Canon/Mita. I had an uncle who sold copiers and typewriters back in the early 70's and managed a large dealership in CA until his retirement in 1990. Re: Q. How does your company handle networking charges?
I think we all struggle with where to draw the line. The point I make with my Sales force, as well as with my customers is if you come in one day and you can't scan to email, but it was working fine yesterday the customer perceives this as "my MFD is broken" because one or more of the functions have stopped working. But most of the time nothing on the MFD is broken. The configuration is the same as it has been for the last 6 months (or 2 years). What most often has changed is something on...

Re: Q. How does your company handle networking charges?
I once had a Doctor's receptionist baulk when I told her what a chargeable service call would cost. She said to me(indignantly), "the DOCTOR doesn't even charge that much". To which I replied "Yeah, I Know, but he can't fix his copier!" OK, OK, I only thought it very loudly when I was a young technician.

Re: Transform Global 2012
Day one has passed and overall, I'm impressed with the event. I actually ran into a couple of P4P members and finally after all of these years got to meet Lee Rummage from RJ Young. On Wednesday evening Oki hosted the evening reception @ Hiltons Signature Island. Food, drinks and networking, at this time I also had to the chance to meet Greg Walters (Death of the Copier) and now the newly elected President of the MPSA. I also ran across many new contacts and believe it or not many readers of...

Do you read your own posts? There was nothing constructive about your original and subsequent posts. If you would have started where just ended, we would have rolled on together in complete agreement. Your original post said nothing that could be construed as anything but selfish interest. I'm just trying to be sensitive to the many "young skulls full of mush" that read these posts. They don't need to think that they are "ignorant" and "dumb" just because a lease approaches expiration. I checked with our VP of Service and he said the location in Pryor, OK would have to be serviced through IKON or JD Young out of Tulsa. We deal with JD Young frequently but they might be limited to only machines that are not RMAP or DMAP. I would contact both and find out. Re: One BIG Take Away from the Top 100 Summit
This is a tough business and finding young blood who are willing to gut it out is HARD. I've been in this industry for 5 years now and every year the thought of quitting enters my mind. The reasoning to stick around has to be more than just about money. For me, lasting 10 years in copier sales is the equivalent to getting my "black belt" in "the art of selling." I already have the confidence to feel like I can do anything -- real estate, start my own business, etc... I've gone through the...

Re: Should Ricoh Offer a Rebate When Dealers Buy the New Smart Op Panel?
Yes that means I have a lot of time left as well but I wouldn't wish this guys work ethic on any sales manager. He is the laziest person I have probably ever managed. He is pretty much just wasting oxygen in my office. He is a straight commission employee and a pain in the a$$. We put him on straight commission and let him do what he wants in a very rural territory because we are 99.9999% sure he is going to sue us when he quits or is fired. He has a long history of lawsuits against...

Re: Rep Retention and Recruitment
It's tough to win whether you hire young, cheap, green reps or experienced ones. If you can find young ones that don't have a sense of entitlement & are coachable you can groom them without having to break any bad habits or giving them the hefty guarantee a successful reps is going to require to be lured away from their current employer. But, if you spend the money on a tenured rep, you're rolling the dice that the rep didn't benefit from the retirement of a prior rep, favoritism or the...

3 Things Sales Reps Need to Do To Help Smash Their Sales In 2019
To everyone in sales, you can perform much better and become more successful, if you just learn to master with consistency the basics. Vince Lombardi , the great Green Bay Packers coach, once said that football comes down to only two things: Blocking on offense and tackling on defense, and those are the basics his teams spent 80% of their time on in practice. Many analogies have been made between sales and sports. It’s often been said the one key fundamental principle in sports is to focus...
