Re: A Couple of True & Not So True Humerous Copier Incidents
On a cold call I stopped in at a doctors office. The Office Manager was so glad to see me. She said that she was having fax issues and every time they received a fax it jammed. I told her I wasn't a tech but I would take a look. She escorted me to the fax and I looked down to see some questionably cheap paper. I simply asked if she had tried changing paper. She said "I don't have any control of the paper the hospital sends when they fax me." OooooK. She obviously didn't understand the...

Re: Will outside Sales Rep's go away?
All excellent points. My son (35) asked me the other day about Carvana and my thoughts about them. The first thing that came to mind is warranty, and service. I guess the question becomes (at least for me), what will be the relationship with the dealer for service and warranty when you bought the car from Carvana? Why should the local dealer expedite service, parts or put you at the top of the list for support when you did not buy from them?

Re: Your Copiers Are Storing Confidential Information: What You Can Do About It
We are still a dealer but we have not sold a LEXMARK in quite a while. They eliminated the MPS Elite program we were own, or at the least removed us from that program. I never had anyone ask about the security due to the Chinese ownership but it’s a great point. Honestly, I have found their support, to us at least, to be very subpar. Our support from brother has been phenomenal the last 2 years. Most of my printer clients are replacing the lexmarks with the brothers as fast as they can.

Art, I think Samsung needed to do this test to shut the mouths of the critics. Now anyone who wonders or asks if the Samsungs are reliable will get a link to this test. My Service guys tell me that the Samsungs have been working well! And the new MX series with the Android (OS) Tablet has been very cool. Re: Copier Parts & Accessories China Tariff Starts in 9 Working Days
Responding to this question could immediately dissolve into a political debate. One fact is clear and that is that tariffs are essentially taxes that become Federal Gov't general revenue that can be used anyway the Gov't desires such as fund its massive deficit. Whatever money the Trump Administration gave away to its citizens in its tax cuts of 2017 it is now going to claw back with higher taxes disguised as tariffs.

I disagree that the tax cuts are going to claw their way back with higher taxes disguised as tariffs. In the end, what Trump wants is fair trade practice...

So, the Oki or Teriostar 1040 is one page per minute faster than the Ricoh. Oki wants the user to replace the corona wire cartridge and the process cartridge. I believe the process cartridge is the drum. Now, the memories come back, if an end user scratches that drum, it's on the user to replace the drum which is going to be a very pricey item. Re: Calculating Lease Costs and Effective Purchase Price W/O interest
Jake, No this is not a dumb question...here is the easiest way to do this: $187.24/0.0302 = $6200 You will have an outprice say $5200 gross profit is $1000 Total = $6200 If someone wants to purchase outright instead of lease sell it for $6200 that way you will still be making $1000 profit. Always start with your outprice of the machine first and build up from there. Every deal will be different based on the circumstances and your competition. Does this make sense?

Re: Calculating Lease Costs and Effective Purchase Price W/O interest
If Montecore's explanation didn't cover it for you, then there must be some confusion what the question is. The monthly payment divided by the rate factor is the original funding amount. You'll notice there is no multiplication in this equation so if there is in yours, then your goal must be something different than determining the original purchase price. If you are trying to replace a unit by providing something for the same monthly payment, Montecore's equation tells you what your sales...

Re: Calculating Lease Costs and Effective Purchase Price W/O interest
You're getting good answers, but sometimes the third of fourth approach to answering the question helps. Not to imply that the previous answers are incorrect or incomplete. 1. "Lease Rate" is a convenience, given to you so that you can multiply your selling price by a number and end up with a payment acceptable to the lessor. 2. The "Short answer" from your leasing company is "We'll do that deal for 36 months at 0.0302". 3. The "Long answer" which they will seldom give you is: - We believe...

I would say you answered your own question. Why would you double the cost of a component of your copier when the benefits are negligible? You mentioned faster access time which is true. Don't you hate standing at the copier while the screen is saying "Please wait, Accessing Hard Drive?" You mentioned 100% reliable, which is not true. They are certainly more reliable, and there's no concern about drive heads, but once again, not a lot of problems there. The most common issue with hard drives...

Re: A4 Page Volumes
The most important question to ask is "how much do you copy 11x17"? If the answer is none, then the next question is "how often do you print 11x17"? When the answer is quite often, well A3 is then a no brainer, however if the answer is rarely, then I'll bundle an 11x17 laser or ink printer. Based on under 10K per month, A4 will save the customer on the TCO over the term of a 5 year lease.

Re: When was the last time you did a demo in your demo room?
the vendor's risk should be proportional to the customer's committment. If they will sign a contingent order then you treat them like a customer. Though, if the answer to this question is based on a cost justificaiton, it would depend upon how streamlined your dealership is... If your salemen are doing the networking then you are gambling with more money than if your dealership has a tech taking care of the fine tuning.

Blunder #5: They give a generic sales pitch. What they do: They natter on and on about their company, its offerings, and its strategy. Why they do it: Usually they’ve been handed a “standard” presentation created by marketing people who have no idea how to sell. What happens: They never really find what the prospect wants and needs, so the pitch is just a “spray and pray”. Your Action Plan: To avoid this blunder, get “centered” before your next sales call.
