Re: CBS NEWS REPORT ON COPIER SECURITY
I talked to an IT Manager today who told me that if you format a HDD immediately twice in a row, it effectively destroys all useable data on the HDD. Most HDs store data in two parts. The Security Key and the data. Some Data removal software programs only remove the security key. I am told this is like removing the Index from a book and scrambling up the book. The data is still there but needs to be rebuilt.

The machines are only spec for 110 index, not cardstock. Then only thru the bypass
Reply
Re: 1060/1075 paper weights
So they are different from the 551/700? Those machines could run 110lb index through drawers 2 & 3 if the 100 Sheet stapling finisher was on it. This is because the other finishers wouldn't take 110lb index. But, the finishers on the 100/1075 take 110lb. See the dilemma.

Re: 1060/1075 paper weights
Attached is a useful Excel tool, that service departments will stand behind, no matter what marketing indicates. On the 60/75 engines, they are only spec'd to run up to 34lb bond through trays 1-3, and 43lb bond through the bypass. 43lb bond does not even equate to 110 index, as marketed, only 90lb index (just). This ahs been a bone of contention. Hope it helps. Cheers, Jim.

Re: 1060/1075 paper weights
The 1060/1075 sales brochure states "110 lb. Index" through the bypass. The Operating Instructions manual states: 14-34lb. Bond from Paper Tray; 14-28lb. Bond from Bypass; 57.6lb Bond from Bypass with Thick Paper selected.

Re: 1060/1075 paper weights
Thanks for setting me straight. 57.6lb does equate to 110lb index. Also equates to 80lb cover & 125lb tag. Cheers.

Art: The 8031 does have the IP711 Print controller option along with the Fiery X3e option. Prints up to 140lb index, 12x18 full bleed, scan-to-e:mail, Tiff, Jpeg and Pdf scanning. The most impressive items is the quality and the booklet making finisher w/saddle stitch(2-3 hole punch also!) My dealership doesn't have any CL7000CMF's in stock yet, so I can't really compare. Personally, the 8031 has much better quality than the 3800CMF, but hasn't been around long enough to test reliability!

Re: Ir 105/Ir 105 drawback
The IR 105 can't reliably run cardstock through the bypass. It keeps jamming at the feed rollers. I just had a customer who has 2 IR105's And bought our 2610 printer for a monthly run of 1000 custom size cards that are about 90#index. It's funny how Canon reps used to push the fact that they can run 110# through the trays????

Working, yes. Stumped, yes. You've got me puzzled at how to accomplish the automatic batch file renaming. I'm aware that there are various shareware and downloadable programs out there that claim to be able to do this, but isn't part of the problem that every fax will be laid out differently? So, then, you wouldn't be able to set a field rule for a zonal OCR. So back to being stumped. As for automatic capture, index, and filing with full rights, check out Prism Software's DocRecord.

Re: How many prospects are in your territory?
If that number of businesses includes resturants and retail, you have a tough row to hoe my friend. Really, number of businesses is a poorer way of gauging one territory vs another than number of employees. However, the only "accurate" way is to use the BEQI (pr. becky) Index. That stands for Business Equipment Quota Index which is a market quota index for B&W and Color MFP's, B&W and color printers, and Fax's. It makes it possible to compare different territories b county, metro...

Re: MPC 7500 Coated Paper Settings
I suggest asking your technical department. Glossy paper is not recommended for the Ricoh products. Try using a silk paper it works great. This tip came from a printer friend of mine which uses the Ricoh's in a pay for print environment.

Re: MPC 7500 Coated Paper Settings
Understood, but it is common knowledge that Ricoh B2C products do not like glossy paper period. Overtime this will cause major jamming issues and disgruntled clients. I suggest going to a paper warehouse and grabbing samples closest to glossy which will work on Ricoh's. I know for a fact the closest is Xerox Silk paper which can be purchased up to 80lb cover or index.

Re: 3800C, duplex 90lb??
Actually 90lb Index (162.75 gram) paper is in spec for the bypass and it can be manually duplexed but if they do a lot of it you will have fuser issues. Paper stock and handling (heavy stock, glossy stock, envelopes ect) is still our Achilles heel on the Ricoh color printers IMHO. Maybe it will be addressed by Ricoh someday
Reply
Re: 3800C, duplex 90lb??
Yeah, the specs say 90lb index through the bypass which would mean manual duplex, but customers hear only what they want and will soon be putting plywood through and complaining that they were told it would work. We have decided to show what 90lb index is to our customers and make sure they know that there is a lot of terminology related to paper, (index, bond, cover, bristol cover, etc...) it would be nice if we could have one standardized term. Also, brochures and reams just list 48lbs.

Re: Fuser problems on DSc338/C3828/1238
when you say thick paper i hope you mean no more than 43lb. bond. any heavier will cause your fuser to shred up just like the 3800. most spec sheets say 90lb. index is the max weight but 90lb. index translates to 43lb. bond.

We just got a 4000 in for evaluation and I must say Ricoh has made some nice improvements. The image quality is great. It feeds 110 index from the paper trays. It will auto duplex 90lb index. Ricoh has finaly figured out the envelope Issue. You can run # 10 envelopes from the bypass without setting the paper size. It just knows like an HP. (I used MS word) You can run envelopes out of the paper tray but here you do have to tell it the size. And yes NO WRINKLES!!! I heard the Street price...

Well, it was nice for a few months anyway. Its not holding up. Customer bought for the thick stock capability and it worked great for a while, then the toner began rubbing off of the 110 lb index (within specs), customer tried a thinner stock. Ricoh had us turn up the fuser temp ... it was marginally better for a week, then it got the the point that the toner was not even bonding to standard 20lb bond paper! Ricoh sent us a nice new fuser kit, still no good. Has anybody else had a problem...

Re: 2051 duplex copy from bypass?
as far as not Ricoh not wanting heavy stock going through the duplexer, I got a phone call for a customer stating that the duplexer jammed for her every 10th copy. I went out to see it and she had 90lb. index in drawer 1. I told her it would even run one of those through the duplexer and she proceed to show me it would. Sure enough it ran 9 though and jammed on the 10th. I would not have believed it unless I saw it. It was a 1035. I asked he not to run in that way any more. JG

It occurs when you have a field indexed and request that "no duplicates" can be entered into that field in the database.
