Re: The reason why Ricoh Bought Ikon

GMAN ·
Art stated: "Geesh, so where does that leave the likes of KonicaMinolta, Toshiba, Kyocera and Sharp?" This specific Ricoh Press Release is a direct response to Konica Minolta acquiring All Covered, Inc. If you read carefully, there is no real newsworthy 'event' or 'announcement' in the Press Release, which is a statement in itself. The Press Release announces an 'intent' rather than an 'action' that has been taken. Sources tell me that this 'dog-and-pony' show was dressed up at an event held...

(Updates with Honda, Nissan closures beginning in fifth paragraph. See {EXT2 } for reports on the quake.) March 11 (Bloomberg) -- Companies including Sony Corp. and Toyota Motor Corp. halted output at plants after an 8.9- magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Japan, damaging production facilities and causing power outages. Sony halted and evacuated six factories in northeastern Japan, said Yasuhiro Okada, a spokesman at the Tokyo-based company. He said the company was assessing the...

This was an article from the NY times over the weekend! SHIBATA-MACHI, Japan — When the ground shook violently on the afternoon of March 11, the ceiling collapsed in part of the huge Ricoh copier factory here, exposing the vents and wires above. The offices at the Ricoh plant near Sendai are still in disrepair; workers have focused on restoring the factory and production. The ceiling is still not fixed. But employees are back at their posts, working under temporary lighting and wearing hard...

Re: Protest in China

The root cause of the feud is a couple of very small uninhabited islands off the coast of Japan. Both countries want to claim sovereignty. The value is in the rich fishing grounds and possible oil underneath the sea. Panasonic has already closed at least one plant in China as a direct result. We can only hope this does not impact the MFP industry.

Art, We looked at All Care through Konica Minolta but the contract T's & C's were so one sided we thought it was written by the Mafia. The bottom line was they got paid (by the Dealership) whether or not the customer paid you or not. I was speaking to a VP of a large independent dealer on the east coast who had a discussion with the principal of his company. What it would take for his company to do Managed Network Service. His answer was we can: 1) Hire people 2) Partner with a company...

I could see companies that do a lot of business with governments using them. For instance, I have a client that works with prison systems throughout the USA. They occasionally have to respond to RFPs that require the proposal documents to be printed on paper with a minimum % of recycled content. It would also probably play well in markets that are big on "being green". Think the West Coast, Colorado, Austin & the like.

Mostly in schools (which I personally think is the worst environment to place a copier-due to too many hands on the machine by teachers who can care less about do's and don'ts.). But they quite often run PM to PM without any calls. And I've found that the majority of "in between calls" are due to user mishandling and abuse. Most of the...

Re: Ricoh MP 301 toner question

Hey Art! I don't know about MICR toner for this specific model, however what models in general are MICR supported? Last I knew Ricoh had a larger BW box that was MICR enabled, but couldn't find anything about it. Did find some outfit out on the West Coast that would retrofit a BW Canon for MICR, but we never went that route due to them not being authorized and didn't want to jeopardize Canon service support. MICR's an interesting niche that is still necessary though.
