Re: Copier Parts & Accessories China Tariff Starts in 9 Working Days
Responding to this question could immediately dissolve into a political debate. One fact is clear and that is that tariffs are essentially taxes that become Federal Gov't general revenue that can be used anyway the Gov't desires such as fund its massive deficit. Whatever money the Trump Administration gave away to its citizens in its tax cuts of 2017 it is now going to claw back with higher taxes disguised as tariffs.

" Whatever money the Trump Administration gave away to its citizens in its tax cuts of 2017 it is now going to claw back with higher taxes disguised as tariffs. " When one door closes another door opens. Many US companies can benefit from the higher tariffs placed on goods from China. In fact I spoke to one of those companies last Thursday. I disagree that the tax cuts are going to claw their way back with higher taxes disguised as tariffs. In the end, what Trump wants is fair trade practice...

Re: UPDATE 3-Canon buys Dutch Oce for $1.1 bln, fights Ricoh
Found this on the web today:: By Pavel Alpeyev Nov. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Orbis Funds, the asset manager that opposed takeover offers by Warren Buffett and Citigroup Inc., rejected Canon Inc.’s 730 million euro ($1.1 billion) bid to buy unprofitable Dutch printer maker Oce NV as too low. Canon’s 8.60 euros-a-share offer “significantly undervalues” Oce’s assets, and Orbis doesn’t want to sell its stake of about 10 percent at that price, the Bermuda-based manager of $20 billion in assets said in a...

Re: Calculating Lease Costs and Effective Purchase Price W/O interest
You're getting good answers, but sometimes the third of fourth approach to answering the question helps. Not to imply that the previous answers are incorrect or incomplete. 1. "Lease Rate" is a convenience, given to you so that you can multiply your selling price by a number and end up with a payment acceptable to the lessor. 2. The "Short answer" from your leasing company is "We'll do that deal for 36 months at 0.0302". 3. The "Long answer" which they will seldom give you is: - We believe...

I've heard that the reason there is no real low or zero type of finance lease ($1) because it would be extremely difficult for them to repo a copier that is in someone office or house. The only way I know to make it work is to fudge the numbers. Meaning you sell the system for MSRP and then offer them a $1.00 purchase option. The leasing company would fund you off of the $1.00 out finance rate. Thus if the...

To me A4 is prime for school market. Hook up with a venfor that can provide A4 machines. 3. The big boys give away the CPC the first year and then raise every year thereafter. Along with having clauses in the contract about toner usage, the more toner you use the higher your cpc will go. 4. Support the schools whether through...

Re: Need Leasing Help!
Great America is now doing print fleet management leases which by definition funds a payment not collateralled (not really a word) by equipment. If they are willing to that, I would think that they would no longer hold to the typical maximum 125% of MSRP rules. Another idea...can you pre-fund maintenance and exaggerate the rate? By that I mean add $68,000 to your normal maintenance rate but attribute it all to maintenance. I've never tried...just trying to think outside the box.

Art, What type of lease approval percentages are you seeing compared to 90 or 180 days ago? We fund our leases internally, so I don't have an insight into the approval rate changes from the leasing companies. Thanks Sam

Re: Storage of competitor's equipment during lease
Now-a-days there is no such thing as buy-out to Return...only buy-out to keep with a very high residual. We have stored equipment but the leasing company can never know about it. Marlin Leasing for instance sends it immediately to their legal dept for litigation if they find out. Far and away, the best answer is to fund the payments into the new deal and write the customer a check and have them make the payments and store the equipment.

OMG, it's getting tougher and tougher out there, maybe none of them will stop until there are no sales people in the business any longer. We had a letter many months ago, however it did not have the paragraph in reference to "anything over 100% is now blended", and they will not "knowingly fund maintenance". CIT messed up their portfolio all by themselves with the lowest rates and the highest buyouts! I just hope that this is the same for Direct Branches as it is for Dealers. I know many...

Did The Canon Copier Cause The Fire? The fire started in a locked storeroom. It destroyed the video rental store in a St. Paul strip mall and damaged three adjacent buildings. An employee of the video rental store had set the Canon copier (located in the storeroom and serviced one week prior to the fire) to make 80 copies before leaving the storeroom while the copying was in progress. Several hours later, the security alarms activated, the fire in the storeroom was discovered, and the store...

Re: "what is the interest rate"
I ask a Banker at one time, and figured it out to about 14%. If you assume one thing, that is the leasing companies want the same interest rate weather it FMV,10% or $1.00 buyout. Using DLL rate, the interest rate is about 13.60%. That's taking a fund rate of $ 5,000 over a 3 year period. The reason most people lease is base on there accounting procedures and how they write things off for taxes. Remember one thing, most people are payment buyers. If there payment is less than what they...

Re: New W2400 pricing!
My biggest concern is the lack of acknowledgement from Ricoh that color scanning is going to be a big deal. I've already lost a couple of deals to Kip's color scanning capabilities. They've actually been able to beat my price on the 240W with color scanning capabilities included on theirs. I'm not sure what Ricoh is thinking with the discounts to WF only dealers and not to full line dealers. Seems like another way for the dealers to fund Ricoh's market share expansion. My dealership bought...

Re: Does anyone have a clue as to how the CPC billing model started in the first place?
I remember a plan that didn't really take hold but it was a plan like the one John talked about and all accessories were proposed in the form of copies...you want a finisher, just commit to 10,000 additional copies per month. The CPC rate had an equipment portion attached to it so more clicks funded more equipment. If the CPC was normal plus .003, 10,000 clicks added $30/month which would fund $1,500 additional. Some customers that weren't willing to pay $1,500 would agree to 10,000 more...

I agree Rick Taylor has done a superb job at KM but I think he does win it every year. Rightfully so in my opinion, but I also believe Cannata uses the same dealers every year. Since I met them a couple years ago and we use 4 or 5 partners on the lists now we have been included in the voting for the last 2 years.

Ty for the comment, I think the same about Taylor. So, unless those dealers change who they use as third party supplies, none of the other will ever get on the list.

Re: Inflated MSRPs & Leasing
Where the typical benefit of higher MSRP's is typically realized is when buyouts are involved. Since most leasing companies will only fund 125% of MSRP, there can be limitations on how much of a buyout you can roll into a new lease depending on how high that buyout is. At least for me, this typically comes up when stealing a dissatisfied customer from a competitor that has a while left on their lease.
